ROCK the F--king BOAT Eitan Chitayat

ROCK the F--king BOAT Eitan Chitayat

🇮🇱 You may not agree with everything that Eitan Chitayat says- but you have to respect him for speaking out against anti-semitism worldwide, and speaking out against all kinds of hate. He has done campaigns to support women, LGBTQ issues and you may know him for his recent advocacy work and the hashtag, I'm that Jew. He speaks his truth through his art, his creative work as a brander, and as a writer. This is his link tree so you can dive into his work, his words: https://linktr.ee/eitanchitayat Natie, his Tel-Aviv based creative agency, has been remote even before many pivoted their "brick and mortar" businesses to remote shops. He has only senior staffers, around the globe, who share his values and vision. His clients have included some of the big corporate companies as well as little start ups with good intentions. His work as advocate has been seen by millions and inspired some other celebrities- who have reached out to him- Tiffany Haddish for one, who famously said "I can't believe everything I read... I need to (go) find out for myself." She met with Eitan in Israel to ask questions. As a woman who identifies as black and Jewish, she wanted to find out what "the people who are actually experiencing...I wanted to see with my own eyes, hear with my own ears..." she wanted to find the truth for herself. His posts have gone viral, way before October 7th (2023) he spoke out about the stabbings in Israel by Hamas,  January 7, 2015, a deadly assault on the offices of satiric magazine Charlie Hebdo in France. He did a Tedx Talk:"I'm not a stereotype. I'm that Jew." Now he says "I'm exhausted...I'm angry..." and you can follow him on social media which he says he dislikes, but is necessary for now, to get the word out. To get the words out. Michelle Zeitlin, founder and President of More Zap Productions & Management LLC, like Eitan Chitayat, grew up and lived around the globe. In (Madison- the snow- and sunny California) US, Israel, Chile and she worked in many countries through her creative opportunities including in Russia, Austria, Australia, Japan. Eitan lived and worked in Hong Kong, London and New York. He grew up in and currently calls Tel Aviv his home. Michelle and Eitan talked about the Academy Awards and Jonathan Glazer's speech- which has caused an uproar in the Jewish "Hollywood" population- both pro and con- towards his comments- and his movie, "Zone of Interest." In a time of very layered and complicated issues in the Middle East, Eitan believes you must dig for the truth, and that's why he teaches his two young sons. See MoreZap.com for more on Michelle Zeitlin. Passion to Power is both a podcast series and a platform for workshops, coaching seminars and speaking engagements. Michelle Zeitlin mentors and teaches artists/authors/actors and activists. Enjoy all the episodes. Share them. Post them. Speak the truth. Thanks to Jason Usry, editor. Thanks to Mark David, announcer and "VOC." Thanks to Gabe Baker, musican/songwriter/artist/actor for the inspired rendition of the Israeli national anthem, "Hatikvah," that opens this podcast episode.

Cultural Fluency- Global Creative Johan Vakidis

Cultural Fluency- Global Creative Johan Vakidis

JOHAN VAKIDIS has worked with computers since his teens and took his skills in programming and early software and web development into the worlds of advertising and experiential event entertainment. Johan's work as a digital creative has allowed him to create projects all over the globe- from Montreal to Shanghai. His work in China and Korea and Singapore taught him the specific ways and protocols of working in East Asia. The "rituals" that are a part of business in these markets formed his "cultural fluency." Johan shared that "being able to trust the people you work with-- in China there is a hierarchy in business." Moving back to Montreal after 20 years, gave Johan a chance to try new ways of working - experiential design and working with huge brands where he integrated multiple adapted skills. A CCO by his late 30's, Johan has built not only major brand projects, but culture and collaboration. He is raising his teen son who got to interview skateboard celeb, Tony Hawk, on a Nike job- and is now enjoying his "intentional pivot" with his current position at C2, a company with the Kyu Collective. The "languages" he speaks include Mandarin, French, Spanish, Italian, Greek and some Italian- besides the ad speak, and the fluency in navigating the spheres of digital entertainment - while "scaling up!" 🆙 For More (ZAP) on host Michelle Zeitlin please see MoreZap.com or Passion-Power.com - If you are interested in being interviewed and featured on this podcast, please send an email. Tara Nicole Hughes, Ebb and Flow... Dancer/Choreographer

Tara Nicole Hughes, Ebb and Flow... Dancer/Choreographer

Tara Nicole Hughes has worked for 26 years with "Uber brilliant" director/choreographer, Rob Marshall on some of the biggest contemporary movie musicals including, Mary Poppins Returns, Chicago, Nine, and for two years she was a part of the entire pre-production, production and post-production process of Disney's live action, The Little Mermaid. With long sinewy legs and pure line, Tara was always a standout both on Broadway stages and film/TV sound stages. She has a reputation for a strong work ethic and elegance as a performer. The day of this interview, the movie, The Little Mermaid, based on the animated musical Disney film, opened to $10.3 million in ticket sales. Tara worked in London at Pinewood Studios and other UK sound stage interiors, and on location in Sardinia, Italy for all the actual real water coverage. She was instrumental in creating the movements for the actors on rigs, working also with Stunt Coordinator, Adam Curley to create the underwater illusions and she co- choreographed with Joey Pizzi -all the dance segments - some with the Alvin Ailey company dancers who were flown into England.
"I hope Disney shares," says Tara about the creative pre-production and process- "it's amazing." The biggest production number is "Under the Sea" and like the earlier, "Fantasia" film -they were inspired to create movement for the fish 🐠 and dolphin-like🐬 dance moves. "I am a bridge between departments...dance and stunts and actors and costume..." Tara also shares about the research and development and then the work "shutdown" for seven months for Covid. Principal photography finished two years ago, so it was exciting for Tara to see the movie come together and she smiled internally. "It's a really epic film. Rob Marshall has made a masterpiece.
The work of a choreographer can ebb and flow like the sea- there are tumultuous waves and flatter low tides and therefore Tara balances her career life with her meditational practice. In addition to her work with dance and choreography, Tara is involved with wellness and hosts retreats. She practices regularly to get to a "quiet, safe place" on the (yoga) mat. "I get so busy with my projects... so I want to get back to it. They are great tools 🧰.. to find a deeper peace and happiness."
Mom of two daughters, she enjoyed splashing in the sea with her very own two mermaids, aged ten and sixteen.

The Shark of Book Publishing: Lisa Sharkey

The Shark of Book Publishing: Lisa Sharkey

SVP, Director of Creative Development, HarperCollins Publishers HarperCollins.com A guru of nonfiction book publishing, Lisa Sharkey, who agrees that she is indeed "a shark," has worked for over sixteen years at one of the largest publishing houses in North America, chasing stories that have to be told. In her earlier life she was a talented and successful producer of TV news shows with a journalist's veracity. Since taking the plunge into book publishing-- she considers herself a hybrid editor/publisher-- she has helped to create multiple best selling books, and many have also received critical acclaim. Her list is gold. Michelle Zeitlin, HOST of Passion to Power, also a talent and literary manager and the CEO of MORE ZAP Productions & Management, asked Lisa several questions about her journey and her role. Listen to this interview if you've ever wanted to write a book, if you have ever considered writing nonfiction, and if you've ever wondered about the acquisitional process. Also, if you're going to spend months typing and maybe years writing that book, says Sharkey, make sure you're also building your platform. People have to know you to find out about your book. Make yourself known on social media, and build your audience. Sharkey is also writing a children's book about an owl and there will be more on that soon.. She also recommended a few children's books to the kid division of her publishing company. Lisa finds stories and develops books on all contemporary subjects, from spiritual and political books, to lifestyle trends in diet, sex and finance. "I see this position as a tremendous opportunity to blend my two passions- books and entertainment." (HarperCollins press release) In addition to her very busy life in New York, Lisa teaches college classes and is a guest speaker. She practices yoga and loves to spend time with her kids. P.S. When Lisa Sharkey says "it's coming out today!" She is referring to a book by Amanda Kloots, and that was actually in early April, 2023. Thanks to our More Zap team for producing another wonderfully informative and entertaining episode. Icons & Instincts, Choreographer Vincent Paterson

Icons & Instincts, Choreographer Vincent Paterson

Christmas Day :What does a Choreographer do? Why isn’t there a union to protect (them) us? How does a choreographer work with a director ? Actors? Icons? From MJ to Madonna Vincent Paterson has experienced a myriad of emotions on set - taking care of delicate egos. He has set iconic movement on dancers and singers and celebrities. He has won accolades and toured the globe. But for me, it was the meeting of the minds of artists and their “process” that struck a chord. #work #Passiontopower #podcast #dance #camera #film #television #choreography #moveit #star

 🎥C H R I S C A M P B E L L Director

🎥C H R I S C A M P B E L L Director

“Be the guy who people want to work with!” Says Chris Campbell, Director🍿 He is tatted, edgy, a little cynical and a pragmatist. He is also passionate about making quality work and being the guy people like on the set. Chris has been immersed in the YA space, namely directing young influencers for content that appeals to the tween and teen girl set. His commercial reel is impressive and he was awarded a student Emmy out the gate from film school that he thought would launch his career in commercials. “But no one cared.. the phone didn’t ring..” and that proverbial big movie offer didn’t come easy. He says there is no class that teaches artists how to make it outside of film school, so perhaps his story and guidance can help others on their young quest as aspiring directors. He does get super excited talking about cooking - and has experimented in the kitchen making all kinds of “fancy” dishes. He showed me his collection of taxidermy- and believe it or not- he has gotten pieces off Craig’s List! He has hunted but none of his mounts were his trophies. He used to ride his skateboard and for a hot minute pursued acting. His mother was always a big supporter of his goals. Now he is where he wants to be- “practicing” on the job and glad to work long hours on set with his hand picked crew. What’s next? Maybe a Hallmark Rom Com, maybe a Mystery or Thriller. Chris Campbell is open to opportunity and grateful when he is working. For more - see his website with samples of his narrative film work and his commercial reel. For more on host and producer, Michelle Zeitlin - please visit passion-power.com or morezap.com MZ enjoys speaking to all kinds of creatives about their “yellow brick road to success.” lnkd.in/g8znF9U9

Nick Roses 🌹 Hollywood Agent

Nick Roses 🌹 Hollywood Agent

From child actor to reality TV star as "the youngest agent" to top theatrical agent in Los Angeles - Nick Roses has had an interesting trajectory.  Nick Roses is currently a partner at Pantheon, representing actors in scripted TV, feature films, in unscripted programming and redefining their agency opportunities and platform. Nick Roses over came scathing Hollywood press and a dented professional reputation in the industry in his early years in Los Angeles - where he says he had to do "a lot of self reflection" and rebuild. He did just that, and now at age thirty three he has established himself and his agency department as being diverse, busy, financially successful and creative in the way they do their business for their clients. "We're really really really really involved."  "What I do is not just a job, it's a lifestyle and it's all day every day..."  Nick thrives at what he does and he is proud of the careers he's helped to shape and build. His boyfriend, also an actor, is supportive and understands that Nick is working when he's at a club or an event, or a premiere..."it's always work," says Nick. He says he hopes his youthful energy is a positive for the clients he serves and wants to be there for them. Though he underscores that show business is a business first, he does relish time with his clients and celebrating with them in a personal way.  Take a listen and enjoy.  For more on Nick Roses, see IMDB or reach out to Pantheon https://www.pantheontalent.com Michelle Zeitlin is the producer and host of Passion to Power and the CEO of More Zap Productions & Management. http://www.morezap.com

Ali Afshar, ESX: Race Cars & Feel-Good Movies

Ali Afshar, ESX: Race Cars & Feel-Good Movies

Ali Afshar is the founder of ESX Entertainment.  He races hot rods, he has been an actor, and he has built a sound stage in a barn in his home town, Petaluma, near Napa Valley where his company shot "California Christmas," in production during the Covid quarantines. Ali has built a company with a select and close group of friends who have all become busy producers, composers, directors and DPs. He has cast friends too- one woman he met as a waitress and now she stars in their newest Netflix romantic comedy. Many of his crew and team have met their romantic partners too- marriages have taken place on their studio lot up North.  "All our movies are American Dream Movies," says Ali. One of his financiers, the CEO of Lucas Oil, coined the phrase "Shed a tear, but leave with a smile." That's ESX's mantra and MO, but Ali says their movies are more PG than G, with more edge. Ali's company offices are on the Warner Bros. lot and he's produced movies that have been licensed by Netflix and HBO Max, and he's also in development of a TV series that he says is like Yellowstone with a Latin bent, "Casa Grande."  Ali is originally from Iran, and his mother passed when he was young. So his main advice to this podcast, Passion to Power listeners, is "don't wait," do what you love and don't do it for money...the money will come. Sounds like the mantra for Passion to Power.  Still racing and collecting "muscle cars," and making movies and doing the occasional acting role keeps Ali very busy. He is grateful and his team seems to work like a well-oiled machine- he ought to know.  For more on Ali Afshar and ESX Entertainment, visit their website: http://www.esxproductions.com Michelle Zeitlin is a talent & literary manager, show creator and catalyst to creative conversation.  If you are interested in being on the podcast, please send a request to our team to MoreZap@gmail.com If you are interested in learning more about our people and projects, or booking Michelle for a workshop or coaching session, or media session, please reach out via www.morezap.com or www.passion-power.com

Maria Capp, Director "I want people to feel happy and safe!"

Maria Capp, Director "I want people to feel happy and safe!"

“Hire me to direct!” Maria Capp knows that to get what you want you have to ask. She’s been doing the big “asks” for years/ whether to pitch a project to Tubi, Hallmark, or Netflix, or to raise funds for original movies she is producing and writing, or to ask for the best cast members to lead one of her movies for TV. With a family-centric and female-centric approach to movie making, Maria Capp has always made it her business to be inclusive and to employ people of all colors, ages, and represent people of different ethnicities, being cognizant, respectful and sensitive to stories that are culturally specific. She wears different hats including that of writer, producer and director, and she loves directing the most. She has a musical theatre background so she thinks with music and plays out scenes in her head before she blocks them with actors. She considers herself an actor's director, and immersed herself in technique classes in the Ivana Chubbuck method of acting.  Maria's movies are generally feel-good and she loves stories about families and coming of age and real relationships. She's directed with top actors that are loyal to her as they enjoy their on-set experience with Maria.  What's next? Maybe a Western, or Psychological Thriller...Maria is currently pitching several movies for TV and in post production on a film she wrote and directed on Long Island, where she grew up, with an indigenous story line based on a myth, "lady of the lake," on the Island, "Lake Ronconkoma." Jenn Boyce Hollywood Prep

Jenn Boyce Hollywood Prep

  • Michelle Zeitlin is the host of Passion to Power and considered a Hollywood Insider, so it's a perfect match to have Jenn Boyce, who is the founder of THE HOLLYWOOD PREP as her guest on this episode.

  • As a Talent Agent in Hollywood for 30 years, Jenn Boyce has worked with thousands of amazing actors: Paul Rudd, Jessica Biel, Nick Robinson,  Shailene Woodley, Ava Michelle, Cedric Joe, Ciara Bravo and Storm Reid, to name a few.
  • What Jenn is focusing on now is helping actors, kids and their parents to navigate the complex "Hollywood" industry in film and TV, and with her expertise in "on camera" commercials especially, to offer tools and resources and TIME that others may not be able to sacrifice- i.e. "agents and managers" in this show business.  What does it mean to have an agent? How do agents work? What do they expect?  How do submissions work? Technology has certainly made everything more rapid- sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Learning about preparation is imporant- and as Michelle Zeitlin offers- "preparation vs. expectation" is the way to move forward. Do what you need to do to be READY for those occasional wins! But don't have false expectations or think everything runs in a paradigm that makes sense to people outside of the "business."

Fosse, Fosse, Fosse- Valarie Pettiford, Diva Triple Threat

Fosse, Fosse, Fosse- Valarie Pettiford, Diva Triple Threat

Valarie Pettiford is a "well rounded performer," who has longevity in the entertainment and performing arts. She has worked in show business for 45 years- which is impossible to believe when you see her on her three (!!) current roles on three different television shows (BLACKLIST, FAMILY BUSINESS, TRUTH BE TOLD) as she is flawless- long limbs, blonde stylish hair cut and posture like the dancer extraordinaire that she is! She's worked with Bob Fosse and many others show creators on stage and screen and she underscores that she is a "dancer through and through," and that DANCE came first in her trajectory. RESPECT is something paramount for Valarie - who also respects those on all sides of the camera and on stage and the crew. In fact, she considers her TEAM all those people who are HONEST with her, and there for her when she may feel insecure. That includes her agents, manager and her hair stylist on set! Does she consider being a black woman to be a challenge in her work? Yes. "We have to navigate through everything, everywhere, always..." This is a fascinating interview with one classy lady. Learn more about her Yellow Brick Road to Success- her early training and inspirations. Learn about her PASSION. Valarie has energy galore and it's understandable why she was a SOPHISTICATED LADY on Broadway- she is quite the sophisticate. For more on Valarie, you can follow her social media; You can see her IMDB profile for her credits which are extensive. Big Take Away- we are all "human" and to be an artist you have to be a fully feeling and being human. Michelle Zeitlin is the producer and host of PASSION TO POWER. She, like Valarie, started in DANCE and these women have loads in common. We are so excited- Michelle Zeitlin, Host/Producer.  Herizon Music Foundation, founded by Thea Wood in 2019, aims to level the playing field for women in music- on the mic, in the studio, on the mixing board, in publishing, and in every pursuit of the wide open music industry - creators, producers, engineers, distributors, the whole gamut. This is quite a lofty goal, and Thea is committed, motivated, ready and passionate!  From participating in TEDx in Texas (say that three times fast!) to running music events in Detroit, Thea Wood has played many roles. She does not consider herself a musician or vocalist, but she dabbles in writing song lyrics. She also has a sharp recollection for musical hits and artists. She loves music and she wants to empower women to expand their "Herizons."  Thea shares her trajectory- not a straight line to running a non-profit- in journalism for newspapers and magazines, designing collateral materials for corporate branding and negotiating real estate. She says all these career stints prepared her for this full time endeavor that wraps around her heart. She's part marketing director, part nurturer, part coach, part bulldog, and leans into the challenge of sales- "you have to be able to ASK for money."  HOW DOES MUSIC GET UNDER HER SKIN? Did you know music actually trains the brain to work better? Sharper!  WHAT are the (disappointing) FACTS about women in music and the inequities in job hiring opportunities, music air play, label opportunities, distribution and support? GENDER vs. GENRE- a big take away! "MUSIC HEALS," says Thea, and answers these questions.  She wants to build a foundation where women of all ages can engage with mentors, get resources, and feel they have a safe haven.  Thea is also pretty hip! A mother of two, she has shiny eyes and an easy laugh- Michelle and Thea laughed...a lot.  For more on Passion to Power, the podcast and associated workshops, coaching and classes, please visit Passion-Power.com.  For more on More Zap Productions & Management-and all the current people & projects in development- please see MoreZap.com  As we start a new "season" (batch) of episodes, we are open to your suggestions and pitches for content ideas and guests.  You may send an email to MoreZap@gmail.com or visit either of the above websites and fill out a request form.

Book Publicist, Beth Parker “don’t be replaceable”

Book Publicist, Beth Parker “don’t be replaceable”

Beth Parker always wanted to be in book publicity: “Always Always Always”
She started her own company after working with some of the biggest publishers in-house. She loves what she does. She works with top authors and new authors- helping them build their platforms, gain traction with press and online publicity. Beth utilizes her people-person, writing, "a fair amount of editing," and pitching skills to get books out there and heightened for market.

She lives in Queens, New York, and works primarily online now- as she says the world of publishing has become a mostly "e-mail" work scenario. There is "Zoom fatigue" in the industry, so getting people on the phone is not as easy as it once once, but she's utilized Slack and other online tech platforms to reach editors, journalists, artists for cover art and others in the publishing community. Networking is essential.
Positioning is crucial: Finding "interesting nuggets" and talking to your authors about their interests, their big marketing goals, and creating good talking points for interviews is all part of Beth's job.
Beth has hobbies she loves- her passions include quilting and eating pizza. You can follow Beth on social media and you can reach out to her via her website:

"Luck of the Draw" with Ed Steckley, Illustrator

Ed Steckley is an illustrator. He works on children's picture books, middle grade chapter books and advertising assignments. He's been a caricaturist, cartoonist and tried animating too- but that wasn't his wheelhouse, he says. He shares his passion, his journey and his goals. He also expresses gratitude for his mentors, some of the greatest artists that have contributed work in the last 100 years. Along with drawing "tractors and lawn mowers," to get practice in his early years, he has created wonderful characters in pencil, ink and paint. His cat Franklin is always in his home studio, in Queens, New York, where he creates his magic. His newest accomplishment is available mid November; one of a series of books called "Rube Goldberg," about a little kid who invents things, and based on a real person. He did ninety drawings for this series of books in grey scale and full color. You can now purchase this book, published by Abrams Publishing, and the same editorial director who put out the hit MG series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Charlie Kochman.  Ed Steckley is also on the board of the National Cartoonists Society, and says networking is a key way to get to know people in this industry. Jordan Gershowitz Head Writer

Jordan Gershowitz Head Writer

Nickelodeon and Disney writer Jordan Gershowitz has been incredibly prolific and he's had some adventures on his way to his current title as Head Writer for the kid and family genre of television entertainment.

In interviewing Jordan, these three words were especially vibrant and resonant:
ABSORB
ADAPT
ADJUST

He is an award-winning musician and was nominated for the MTV VMA for Best Breakout Artist as a member of the band Rushmore. He opened for Justin Bieber and performed his punk style for the Van's Warped Tour.

His long list of credits includes live action and animation and he's worked with HBO, CBS, Warner Bros., DreamWorks and many more networks and SVOD's.
His father was in the toy licensing world and his mother was a school teacher, and he believes these influences were constructive, inspiring and informed his knowledge and motivation to be in show biz.
He says it's good to use your passion and your "transferable skills" to find your way and create your career path.
Look for "THE TWISTED TIME LINE" which he is especially proud of and says represents work that was not only creative but fun!
He believes in hiring diversity for the writers rooms-- "diverse" meaning in gender, age and POV.

La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival

La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival

passion-power.com/ Michelle Zeitlin:
I am so excited to be podcasting LIVE amongst people on a real red carpet! This is the first “real life” event I’ve experienced since the lockdowns started with Covid-19 in March of 2020, and it feels good!
This two day event is the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, presented by Fred Sweet. Fred Sweet, the organizer and founder of this festival shares his mission and ideas for a world class event where filmmakers, fashion designers and artists can share their purpose driven collaborations in a supportive atmosphere.

In preparing for this weekend event July 23, 24, 2021, I had zooms with a few of the jurists including the Iconic Heinz Holba who founded La Models, New York Model Management and several offspring initiatives. Thirty years strong in the agency business, he’s worked with the biggest brands, the top designers, buyers and sellers and super models. Beyond running his mini empire for talent and models, he flies his own plane and has three daughters. We also had the pleasure of meeting his teen daughter, a tiny powerhouse herself, Charly, who I know cherished the time with some of my agency clients, Ashli Auguillard, Emily Alabi, Sophina DeJesus, and the lovely Julia Stier who also works with More Zap as a beta reader of scripts and book manuscripts, helps to edit, and I like to say she’s my “Emily Blunt” referencing the best assistant ever in Devil Wears Prada!
One of the VIPs, Larry Namer- and I enjoyed some face time and though it was very noisy, it was also exciting to be in the midst of the many screening rooms and walk-by traffic with other media reps, artists and film makers walking THE LOT in La Jolla. Larry and I had met years before at his offices for METAN Media in the Valley, and then we got into how he’s been involved with this event and why he’s inspired. He is the founder of E Entertainment Television, which launched as a cable channel with 2.5 million dollars and is now worth billions and owned by NBC Universal.
Gail Garrison, in dark sunglasses and white blond hair bob is a true presence of power- she is the Creative Director of the Global Fashion Channel, and I must say we even had Paparazzi wherever she went! A former Elite model in her youth, she now works with clients and partners in South East Asia and Africa to procure, produce and distribute her original content all about fashion and design. Gail has a resonant voice and resonates creative strength.
Finally, Rebecca Bustamante, past president of Women in Film, Washington DC and an actor and creative herself, returned to La Jolla to be a judge and presenter for Best Cinematography. These short films were 6-12 minutes and were developed and produced by artists all over the globe.

I got to interview one particular creative team - they call themselves Architects and their film, Savage Facades. Loved all their accents and stories!

"The Dynamism of TV" Kevin Beggs, Chairman of Lionsgate TV Shares his Journey

"The Dynamism of TV" Kevin Beggs, Chairman of Lionsgate TV Shares his Journey

"I have an incredibly short attention span..."  That's why Kevin Beggs loves TV- it integrates all the many skillsets he has as a "generalist." Kevin Beggs is the Chairman of Lionsgate TV, in his 22nd year working with this massive entertainment company that has international sprawl.   "This year has been, as you say, a really crazy year...morale, staff...and pivoting into this new normal...many many things, a crazy political year on top of it...ironically enough, zooming in has brought more people into the (creative) process..."  Kevin offers tips and tools for success, and shares his story-- how he started, what inspires and challenges him, and why he loves what he does every day, even in a time of adversity.  HIs schooling in politics and theatre at UC Santa Cruz equipped him with an open mind, the ability to earn "buy in" from the many people that must do so to sell a show, keep a series going, and help to run the many departments, creative and business aspects of Lionsgate TV, Starz, and all associated and integrated "across all verticles."  I asked Kevin about the pitch process, what it means to be a "third party supplier" of content, what keeps him going day to day managing so many parts... and what he would tell himself now, reflecting back to his eighteen year old self, if he needed advice.  "Prove yourself invaluable." That's his advice to the 18-24 aspiring folks looking to get into the entertainment business. "Who knows what the next pivot is going to be... read everything...the lifelong learning..."  For more on Lionsgate TV please see https://www.lionsgate.com/shows.  Michelle Zeitlin develops "people and projects" in all media. An Animated Life: Splash Entertainment CEO, Mike Young

An Animated Life: Splash Entertainment CEO, Mike Young

Business is in the home kitchen right now for Splash Entertainment's Mike Young and his wife, Liz.  They are creating stories, story boards, designs, character bibles and layouts for movies and television programming. Their partners are in multiple countries, and they are facilitating a busy market in animation, while live action has stalled considerably during the Covid-19 pandemic. As Mike explains, "it's massive..." the way digital technology has changed the landscape of animation, with partners in Canada, Malaysia, the UK and India- where they have night-morning Zoom conferences to continue content creation and distribution. Mike Young is from Wales, and besides his lilting manner and charming personality, he proudly shares that the Welsh "punch above their weight" and have contributed substantially to the world's best music, art, and culture. He is currently happy that his five children and eleven grand children are interested in the arts and entertainment and will continue with the legacy of telling stories in animation. He is also glad they all play "football" (soccer) and he's currently developing a show all about the game, with some high-profile sports talent, with "pink hair."  For those Passion to Power listeners who are aspiring to careers in the arts, film & television and digital technologies, this conversation will offer inspiration, education and the inner-world of the business. For those who are in these industries, who may be pivoting during this unique time, you may see animation as a new viable source of creative output opportunity.  For more on Mike Young, see http://www.splashentertainment.com  Their current roster includes Maverick & Me, Symphony Street, Rotten School and Family Rocks. For more on Michelle Zeitlin, Host/Producer, please see http://passion-power.com; Michelle is available for workshops, online and on-site educational clinics, public speaking, coaching and as creative mentor.  Michelle Zeitlin is the founder and CEO of More Zap Productions & Management, developing people & projects on the page, on the stage and on the screen.
