Cancer Society was established in the Maldives in 2016, with the aim of creating awareness about cancer, providing support and circulating information and resources to eliminate misconceptions about cancer and those fighting against it. The NGO provides psychosocial support for cancer patients and their care givers in addition to conducting targeted awareness programs and cancer screening. Afa also speaks about the importance of cancer research and creating a registered cancer patient database in the Maldives.

Drug addiction or substance use disorder is a progressive disease where people with addiction need treatment to recover stop drug use. Adeeb has been working towards prevention of drug use in the Maldives since 2007 with Journey NGO which is now in its 17th year. The NGO was established by people with a history of drug use with the support of then government and UNICEF to help addicts to reintegrate into society. Adeeb hopes that an effective drug policy is created in the Maldives to further help addicts with their rehabilitation.

Aishath Didi launched her career as a science teacher in Majeedhiya School and has spent 20 years of in EDC curriculum development and training of teachers across the nation. She has also dedicated 14 years towards the development of schools in Addu and Fuahmulah City. Aishath Didi has obtained her first degree in psychology and her masters of education in international comparison of developing countries. She has also highlighted the intense work carried out in the ministry and the various issues which emerges within the community.

Nutritionists are those who provide treatment to patients through their food intake, tackling issues like kidney function, high blood pressure and diabetes. Aasi talks about the importance of eating a balanced diet and how one can achieve a healthier lifestyle through their food intake. She also advices to read food labels and check their nutritional value before any food consumption.

Thoha started out his career in the education sector as an English teacher in 1993. After serving multiple schools across the nation he joined Ghiyaasudhin International School in 2009, which coincided with being the school’s last year as a public institute. Fezu, co-founder of Detune band, which gained local acclamation from their hit single “Nashaalaa” has been in the music industry from before the bands inception in 2006. The close-knit band of 5 members have been playing music in both local and international platforms for over 16 years. Although, the music industry in the Maldives is fairly unfledged, Fezu and Detune have been involved in the formation of the Music Association in hopes to protect artists rights and pave the way for the growth of the industry.

Toddy, who came to Maldives 25 years ago to on work fell in love with the island nation and later shared his passion with his wife, Yami. The two have since then travelled across the nation exploring and soaking up the beauty of the Maldives. The couple initiated the “Coral Doctors” project in association with the German Oceanographic Museum to transfer knowledge about coral protection and preservation among the local communities.

Fayyaz has a long history with the Maldivian dive industry. His father Ibrahim Moosa is the first certified professional diver and his Uncle Yoosuf Moosa is the first certified Instructor in the Maldives. Fayyaz has been diving for 41 years and through his dive school “Divers Lodge Maldives” he has been empowering individuals to seek out the majestic underwater beauty of Maldives without any fear.

Farah is a multi-talented individual who is well versed in tailoring, cosmetic makeup in addition to the Maldivian boduberu, music and dance. Farah, who enjoys racing works as a heavy vehicle operator in MPL port. As the first female who works as a heavy vehicle operator Farah has been on the job for 2 years, and is currently getting trained to operate the loader and the excavator. She encourages more females to join the field as she states that no work is impossible if you are dedicated and determined.

Radio and music have played a pivotal role in Abcy’s life. From a young age he has shown his musical talents. He stepped into the field of music during the late 70’s where he got the chance to audition for Olympians, which paved the way for him to grow his stature in the industry. Abcy has dedicated the greater part of his life to music, singing his tunes across the country.

From a young age, Himya has been passionate about lending a hand to those in need. Her first job at gender ministry opened her eyes to the vulnerabilities and peoples suffering in the society. With the inception of Maldives Red Crescent in 2010 Himya worked closely to establish the organization and recruit volunteers from different parts of the Maldives. Her happiness lies in helping the vulnerable groups of the society and hopes to see more aspirational female leaders moving the nation forward.

Beginning his journey from a time where information collection was tedious and time consuming, Masood fell in love with public speaking and has been in the field for 20 years. Masood is currently providing customer service training and is known to be one of the finest trainers in the field. He is also a motivational speaker, helping people maximise their potential and live a successful, happy life.
