With the fresh success of my podcast ‘When Straight Meets Gay‘ with Richard Trejo and Trey Melton, I wanted to create my own space where I could just sit and talk with my own guests/friends. So I created ‘Mimosas with Michael.’
This is a podcast where I just sit and talk with people about life, love, art – and the vulnerabilities and joys that make us all human.
I come across so many wonderful and fascinating people that I would just grab a mimosas with and talk to – so I hope to share some laughter, tears, and fun stories with you every other Sunday of the month.
I had the opportunity to meet and work with Cale Hammond on the tennis drama pilot AD Out, that I directed for Troy Akin. Cale is cool as fuck and I was grateful to direct him in his first acting project. Cale is one of the nicest guys I have ever met but plays the best douche in the show. In real life he is an athlete and a social media coordinator for The Tennis Channel

Jake and I were friends on Instagram first. Then we got to work together when Troy Akin brought him in to act in the web series AD Out, which I directed. Since Jake is an athlete including tennis, it was an obvious fit.
So Jake came on the show to talk about his career and his experience on the set of AD Out.
Jake is an actor, musician, screenwriter, and producer. He has a PhD in Sport Psychology and specializes in mindfulness training for athletes, actors, and others. His experiences while attending graduate school in east Tennessee helped fuel the development of Marmousch, set in Nashville, which is about a southern evangelist, a retired uber-pious baseball player, and country music. And the Lord. Jake has many projects in development including one about sport psychologists and can’t wait to play Victor Lemmons in The Race

His first film was The Campus (2017), and he starred in his most recent feature, One Time Gift (2018). He loves boxing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and playing the drums.

I met Edward last year at his film festival - The Anti-Hero Production Genre Film Festival - in Burbank, CA when the short film, The Deal, I directed premiered there. I had many conversations with him about his film career including his documentary and I knew he was someone I had to have on the show! BIO: Edward Payson grew up in Derry, New Hampshire. Edward knew since he was a little boy that he wanted to direct films. He packed up and moved to California at twenty years old to attend Columbia College Hollywood where he went on to achieve a bachelor's degree in Cinema. While a freshman at Columbia he directed his first feature film, Morbid: A Love Story. It was an ambitious project with a a 70 person cast that took Edward two years to complete due to many complications including the unfortunate and unexpected loss of his father Edward Payson Senior. The film was a finalist at the Las Vegas Film Festival. Edward followed up Morbid with the drama A Mother's Love and two more short films Happy Anniversary and The Itch all in the thriller/horror genre. He went on from there to help produce two feature films, The ID Proxy directed by his friend and New Hampshire native Matthew C. Dummond and the other The Rule of Law directed by his new found friend Moziko Wind. Edward also became friends with the also talented horror director Brandon Scullion and held key roles in his films, The Black Guitar, The Suicide Films, and Recess. Upon graduating Columbia College Edward directed his second feature the documentary film, Unsigned, a story following three unsigned rock bands out of LA through there every day struggles and triumphs. He later would return to the horror genre, directing The Cohasset Snuff Film in 2011, a gritty look into the mind of serial killer Collin Mason. Here Edward met Director of Photography Kevin A. McCarthy. They worked so well together Kevin and Edward directed the action/horror feature Fury: The Tales of Ronan Pierce in 2012 starring Kevin's brother Michael McCarthy, Jordan Elizabeth, Kane Hodder and R.A. Mihailoff. Instagram: Edward Payson
On October 13, 2017 my previous podcast, When Straight Meets Gay, launched an hour long episode with a few of the creators of the original Friday the 13th: Victor Miller, the writer; Harry Manfredini, the composer; and Adrienne King as Alice. Even though the podcast is no longer available I kept the recording. I love this interview. We had the best time - it was great to interview them with co-host Richard Trejo. I hope you enjoy this interview as Mimosas With Michael presents the When Straight Meets Gay Podcast interview of Friday the 13th.
I met Candice through my manager Matt Chassin. We met at a horror festival down in San Diego and the first she said to me was 'I want to die in a horror film; and I want to die in a blaze of glory.' So I said...done! I used her likeness in one of my horror shorts for Horror House but her awesome film is coming soon so stay tuned. In the meantime, listen to us yuck it up, with guest host Richard Trejo. BIO: Candice Callins is an actress, writer and producer, most known for her role in My Crazy Ex on Lifetime. She was born in Los Angeles, California and started acting at the age of 7 in theatre, performing in plays at school. After college, she knew she wanted to do film. She made a plan and enrolled in cold reading classes to prepare. Her second week in class, she was given a business card from a manager. He believed in her and wanted to represent her without any film credits. She realized at that moment this was the career for her. She hasn’t looked back, even when others tried to discourage her. Since beginning her film career she has been on Supreme Justice and Critique It with Toni and Morgan. She is currently working on The Carting Call which she wrote, produced and is starring in.
Back in July of 2018 I did a blog interview with this guy Nick! I met him while traveling in London for my birthday last February. I love this guy's vibe. One of the coolest cats I have ever met. It took a year but we finally got him on the show!
Thank you Nick for taking the time to be on the show. He is one of of the few international guests we have had PLUS he is the first one to sing live on the show!
Nick Zara is a singer and songwriter from Italy!
I met this guy on Instagram. I liked this vibe. So I brought him to talk and have mimosas.
Troy Akin born and raised in Orinda, CA was a two sport varsity athlete where he played NCAA tennis at Chapman university. Unexpectedly Troy fell in love with acting at Chapman. There he found his passion for screen acting and moved to LA to pursue his dream. He has worked with major brands like Gatorade, Apple, Mizuno, NCAA and more he finally booked his first pilot in the summer of 2018. This Chris Pine meets Zac Morris of Saved by the Bell hopes to become a regular on your television screen.
In September of 2017 I approached my friend Richard Trejo and told him I wanted to launch my own podcast. He was gracious enough at the time to open his home studio for me to record at. He even served as my engineer - and was my third guest on the show! I was fairly new to podcasting - I suppose even one year in I would still be considered a newbie - I just knew I had a good idea and that I loved talking!
My first several guests called into the show as Richard's studio was not in Los Angeles and we scheduled around both of our active film schedules. Having guests call in was easier. I would schedule two or three in one afternoon and then we would edit them and release them every other week.
Then as the podcast grew I started receiving requests from guests and friends who wanted to talk about an upcoming project they had and wanted a platform in which to talk about it. So for more timely and relevant news I decided to start a blog portion where I could feature artists, musicians, and actors - as well as my own thoughts on life. I would even attend fun events and blog from them, including red carpet interviews and random introductions of people I met at festivals and conventions and post them on the YouTube page.
Podcasting is a full time job, between scheduling interviews, editing episodes, and trying to consistently grow the audience, but I won't lie - I love it! Being a filmmaker I meet many amazing actors and artists who have great stories to tell...and who also love mimosas, naturally!
I am truly grateful to those who have helped this podcast grow and those who continually support it. Thank you to Richard Trejo for helping my vision come to life. Thank you to Josh and Jennifer Burnell, who allow me to use their studio, it is because of them that I am able to grow - and now have in-studio guests! Thank you to my dearest friends Tyler Gallant and Veronica Kuzents and Brantley J. Brown and Tyler Piedmonte for always listening to my ideas and helping promote the show - as well as liking every tweet or Instagram post. I also want to say thank you to everyone who has been on the show - and who will be on the show - and to those who have emailed me, texted me, or messaged me their feedback about the show. I hope you will grow with me during the next year and the years to follow.
Met this gentleman on Instagram and we became friends. I found him interesting and asked him to come have mimosas with me!
BIO: Brian is an actor, producer from the Dominican Republic and living in Los Angeles.
Ben and I have been friends for a while now and I knew he would be a fun guest to have on the show....so he took a trip to the studio, grabbed a nice cold mimosa, and sat down to have a quick chat:
Ben Kaplan is an American actor, comedian, and filmmaker. He was born in West Hartford, Connecticut but grew up in Columbia, Missouri. At a young age, Ben showed a love for performing and film. In high school, he began filming sketches and short films with friends. While in college at the University of Missouri, he began performing stand-up comedy and improv. In 2009, Ben was a semi-finalist in Rooftop Comedy's National College Stand-Up Comedy Contest. He was also a frequent finalist and semi-finalist in the Midwest's Last Comic Standing. After graduating from college, he moved to Los Angeles to continue his career. In 2014 he produced his first feature film, SLASHER.COM, and was also the lead
So Jordan is like my little brother. We met on the set of the BRAT TV show Boss Cheer. It was a fun show to work on. Jordan and I became friends on set and asked to be on the show...so he stopped by the studio and had mimosas and talked!
We talk about acting, modeling, the show we met on, and exchange scary stories.
Jordan Ver Hoeve is an actor, known for Boss Cheer (2018) and 666: Teen Warlock (2016).
Met this wonderful handsome guy Andres, a Colombian actor, model, and athlete from Colombia. He is also a writer, producer, and YouTuber...and Mimosas with Michael is his first podcast!
Colombian actor, writer, producer and you-tuber. Raised in Colombia Andrés comes from a family of artists. At the age of 3 he started to play the piano and since his early years he has received musical and dance training. At the age of 12 he became an accomplished speed-skater wining several tournaments. And around the same time he joined a theater group in Colombia. After doing a lot of theater in his own country Andrés moved to the USA to focus 100% on his artistic career. Today Andres resides in Los Angeles, California where he actively pursues his career as an actor. He has worked for companies like Universal Music Group as a publicist. Univision Networks as a Producer and Bunim Murray Productions as an Associate Producer and a writer. He launched his YouTube channel and a web series in early 2016 and ever since he's building a name for himself as a digital influence-r. He recently stared in Shakespeare in Love as Ned Alleyn in Bogotá, Colombia and has a movie on demand, in English, called Reel Nightmare. He's done a lot of theater in Hollywood and thanks to one of his performances Al Pacino came up to him after a show and congratulated the Colombian actor for his role. His excellent background both behind and in front of the cameras make him a well rounded artist. And his focus, nonstop persistence and dedication have put Andrés, very quickly, on the map of the Hollywood entertainment show business.
I met Ryan through my friend Taylor J. Martin at the AT&T Shape event held at Warner Bros Studios. I was there networking and checking out new technology, and Ryan was there as an actor - as they allow filmmakers to shoot short films on their lot that weekend for free. Which I LOVE more than anything. Note to self: shoot a short film on the Warner Bros lot next year!
So check out my interview with Ryan as we drink mimosas and talk!
Ryan Kendrick is an American actor born and raised in Northern California. His father is of Persian decent and his mother is American. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Elected Los Angeles Official and Governor Appointed Keith Kirkwood to have a mimosa and chat. This was a fun podcast to record - as Keith has an amazing amount of energy but this was also the first podcast we did that was recorded with video and you can check it out on our YouTube page.. So you can see what I look like when I am having mimosas with my guests!
David Namminga is a dear and close friend of mine. We met one day while he was doing background work on a film. We struck up a conversation and became friends - even ended being neighbors once. I have the pleasure of watching him grow as an actor and a model.
David Namminga is a Los Angeles based Actor and Model. He stars in the upcoming films "Tournament" and "Apocalypse Rising". He often ponders the meaning of life
So at the end of last year I wrote a short film based on a story told to me by my friend and actress Rochelle Robinson. I thought it would make a great film and I sat down and wrote it one day while on set filming. My good friend Edward Coupland wanted to help produce it.
Then I wrote my screenplay Axe. Edward read it and loved the complexity of the character. From there he asked me if I would consider adapting the short film Del Obispo Road into a feature - so that he could act in a film that was complex and well written as well. I asked my friend Brantley - who had just finished his film Chuckles to assist me.
We are very proud of this project!
This young man Juan moved to the US from Colombia when he was 17 years old. Now at 21 he is an actor, model, and musician. He stopped to have his first mimosa and talk to us about his journey.

While I was in London for my birthday I got the change to meet and sit down with Pierre Bohanna, prop maker for such films as Harry Potter, Star Wars, and even Wonder Woman. He was introduced to me by friend Kat Miller of Muggle Net, the #1 Harry Potter Fan website.
Pierre’s work history began with apprenticeships in pattern making, Engineering and boat building. Working initially on a bespoke sports car project, then prototype dory’s to off shore racing powerboats.
His carrier in film started with a junior position at a model-making and effects company called Bowtell’s specialising in TV commercials and photography. This was pre-visual effects and so required ‘in camera’ models and effects. A great learning experience. Eventually he became a freelance Modeller and worked in the London area for similar effects companies and production companies (including Spitting Image and Hat Trick productions). Eventually he started working on Film Productions mostly at the three major studios of Pinewood, Leavesden and Shepperton making specialised Props, costumes and models. This included films such as Judge Dread, Phantom Menace, First Knight. Then he was asked to organise and make a large order of Props for Titanic. This began his carrier of organising, setting up and running departments for film productions to manufacture Props, Models and special Costumes. This includes films such as The World is not Enough, all 8 Harry Potter films, Sunshine, Dark Knight, Gravity, Edge of Tomorrow, The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Beauty and the Beast, The Legend of Tarzan, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Star Wars – the Last Jedi, The Justice League. Films yet to be released or in production – Ready Player One, Han Solo, Fantastic Beasts – The Crimes of Gringelwald, Extinction, Wonder Woman 2, Stat Wars 9.

Michael sits and has a mimosa with horror author Matthew R. Fleming, who has self-published his first novel The Dreams.
Waking up in an unknown forest with four strangers, James has an unsettling feeling that the group is not alone. As tension mounts and he finds himself questioning the motives and loyalty of his companions, one of the group members disappears, leaving only a pool of blood behind. It’s now November and we are quickly moving into the holiday season. The days get shorter, the nights get longer and we drink more hot chocolate and apple cider as winter moves in (unless you are in Los Angeles where we seem to be having a small heat wave).
The best thing about Thanksgiving – besides spending it with family and TURKEY – is being able to look back on the year and think about all the things in which you are thankful for.
It’s time to celebrate the small successes of life! I challenge my listeners to take a moment and list the things they are thankful for in 2017. Post them here – or message us and let us know.
We have a listener on the show who posted what they are thankful for!

Happy Holidays and all the best for the rest of 2017.
