Today Counts Forever | Series Wrap-Up
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from 1 Corinthians 3.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Earth Matters Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from Revelation 21:1-22:5.
Is there an eternal future for the earth God created? Many Christians have assumed that the pinnacle of the Kingdom of God is purely spiritual. The Bible shows us that God’s ultimate dwelling is in the world He created and redeemed. John’s Revelation describes the last chapter of history with God moving toward us, rather than us towards Him—the New Jerusalem comes down, the dwelling place of God is with man (Rev 21: 2-4), and Jesus is described as descending in the same way He ascended (Acts 1:11, 1 Corinthians 15:23, 1 Thessalonians 4:16). Those who have died trusting in Christ are also described as accompanying Jesus when He returns to rule the Kingdom He designed, redeemed, delivered to the Father and rules supreme forever (1 Corinthians 15:35, 1 Thess. 4:14-17).
Today Counts Forever | Today's Hope Matters Forever
Pastor Aaron Weiss preaches from Hebrews 12:14-27.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Behaviour Matters Forever
Pastor Aaron Weiss preaches from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Relationships Matter Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from Mark 12:18-27.
Many people have regrets as they come to the close of their earthly lives. Rarely do those regrets involve material possessions but overwhelmingly are tied to relationships formed or broken, often a combination of both. Mark records an interaction between Jesus and some religious teachers, which helps clarify the continuity and discontinuity of our relationships in this world and the next.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Sin Matters Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from Matthew 25:31-46.
Most desire a second chance when considering the mistakes and messes made, deliberate or not. If this sin is not dealt with today, it will be dealt with at what the Bible refers to as "the final judgement of God." Our choice to repent will have already been "locked in”. We will either measure up to God's standard, or trust in the One who met the standard for us. Belief in the gospel deals with our sin today, so that our future place in the Kingdom of Jesus is guaranteed.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Decisions Matter Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from Matthew 25:14-30.
What we think of Christ’s return will one day sort out the wise from the foolish. Understanding both God’s generous heart and our broken one helps us to live today in a state of readiness and assurance. Matthew’s famous parable not only speaks to the lengthy time between Christ's first and second coming but doesn't leave us in limbo as we wait for it. Instead, it reminds us that today’s decisions are best made while considering our eternal destiny in God’s future Kingdom.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Obedience Matters Forever
Pastor Aaron Weiss preaches from 2 Peter 3:1-13.
Many religions believe in the concept of “Judgement Day” which often brings hope to those waiting for solutions to the cruelty witnessed and experienced in life. The Bible often describes this with the phrase “The Day of the Lord”, and it always refers to this being a time God calls people to account for their actions or motivations. Peter's Christian friends had questions of what that day looked like, and Peter explains God’s motivation in the process. God's timeline is different because His heart is different. He is not in a hurry to bring judgement but patiently longs for more people to repent of their sins and let Jesus rule their lives today.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Suffering Matters Forever
Pastor Aaron Weiss preaches from 1 Peter 1:3-12.
Suffering sometimes makes little sense to us. Genocides, natural disasters, and war often surfaces questions about suffering by non-Christians and Christians alike. Is there any point to it? Peter says “Yes!” and explains why to suffering Christians for precisely this purpose. While admitting that suffering will test our faith, Peter points out both the purpose of all suffering and the hope we may have during these painful and difficult experiences: releasing the grip our souls have on this present version of our world and experiencing the one our Saviour will reign in.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Work Matters Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from 1 Corinthians 15:37-58.
For some, the question, “Does what I accomplish in my life matter?”, nags daily at our consciences. A common misconception of Christians is that eternity is purely spiritual, free from the pains of our lives because our body no longer exists. However popular, this is not the picture portrayed by any of the writers of the New Testament. In our future state, we will experience the fullness of God with resurrected bodies in a redeemed creation, which is the basis Paul gives for continued faithful work in the kingdom of God right today.
Today Counts Forever | Today's Enemy is Defeated Forever
Pastor Trevor Rysavy preaches from 1 Corinthians 15:12-36.
'Staving off our own death is one of our national pastimes.' We fear it most, yet we all face it. How can we face from the perspective of Jesus? The Apostle Paul writes the longest treatment of the resurrection, revealing that despite being our worst enemy, with Jesus it becomes our greatest hope for today.
