The CREDIT you deserve podcast ep.09: Development Education (DE) Program in Madison

The CREDIT you deserve podcast ep.09: Development Education (DE) Program in Madison

In episode nine of the "Credit You Deserve" podcast, David Murphy, President of Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union, and Breanna, the marketing guru, discuss David's experience at a credit union program. Breanna joins the conversation to learn more about this program, which David recently attended. David won a scholarship to this program, and he shares his insights and experiences during the episode.

David attended a credit union program in Madison, Wisconsin, which hosted participants from all over the United States. The program is designed to immerse participants in credit union philosophy and principles. It includes group work and focuses on networking and team bonding.

David explains that one of the key aspects of the program is to check your ego at the door and be open-minded. Participants come from various roles within credit unions, from CEOs to service reps. The goal is to create an environment where people can trust each other and share their thoughts openly.

He also emphasizes the importance of Madison, Wisconsin, as a hub for credit unions, with many credit union-related organizations headquartered there. The program's content and format remain somewhat secretive to encourage a raw and immersive experience.

David's initial goal was to earn his designation from the program and take in as much information as possible. However, the program led him to brainstorm ideas for how credit unions can help those in need, such as addressing homelessness, food scarcity, and affordable education.

The podcast delves into the credit union difference, emphasizing that the ultimate goal is to better serve credit union members. The program helps reframe the focus on members and reminds participants of the impact credit unions can have on their communities.

Overall, the episode highlights the transformative experience of the credit union program and how it can inspire credit union professionals to make a difference in the lives of their members and communities.

The Credit You Deserve Ep.02

The Credit You Deserve Ep.02

Hey everybody, welcome to “The Credit You Deserve” podcast. I'm your host, David Murphy, President at the Marshfield Medical Center Credit Union, and in today's episode, we're going to highlight what a credit union is, the history of credit unions in the United States, and the history of MMCCU.

If you've heard the term "credit union" but are unsure what it means or what they do, this is the podcast for you.

Credit unions are different from banks in several ways:

  • Credit Unions are      not-for-profit institutions.
  • Credit Unions make decisions      based on how they can benefit their member-owners instead of shareholders.      Profits go back to the member.
  • Credit Unions are governed by      a volunteer Board of Directors elected by their members.
  • Credit Unions are regulated      by a federal agency called the NCUA.
  • Credit Unions typically use      money from deposits to make loans to members only.

Whether you're an MMCCU member or are simply interested in learning more about the Credit Union Difference, you're in the right place! Tune in to learn more about credit unions.
