Dimensional Alliance Headquarters – Nothing is as it seems…

Notions Into Motion Author Network – No Author is an Island

https://www.buymeacoffee.com/moldovanabroad

To write or not to write has never been the question…

She wrote her first 26 line poem at age 8, entitled “My Christmas ABCs”. She then memorized it and performed it for the church Christmas party. This wasn’t terribly surprising. She started reading before Kindergarten and Dr. Seuss was one of her favorite authors, so rhyme came very naturally to her. She has been writing all of her life, as long as she can remember. A lot of poetry, short stories and, of course, the usual school reports. she always got high grades on her writing assignments, even when she didn’t in other classes, simply because she loved to write.

Then, adulthood set in. She went into the Army.  Always a voracious reader, she still dreamt of writing a novel, but got gloriously side-tracked with a wonderful husband and six amazing children. During that time, she still wrote: Musical plays for her kids at church and school, songs, poetry and even an occasional newspaper article streamed from her pen.

Then, she got involved in jobs that required clear concise writing and a lot of marketing copy. She put up her first website in 1996 and made her living on the internet for over 20 years, writing everything from blog posts to sales copy to scripts for online videos, not to mention copy for the websites she built for her clients.

Then life changed her course.  Among other things she lost all the toes on her right foot due to undiscovered diabetes and breast cancer.  At that point she found herself in mourning for the loss of all of the things she used to do.  One morning she woke up with the thought:  "You need to stop focusing on what you can't do and start considering what you can do."  So she decided that now was the time to finally pursue her dream of writing a novel.

Two weeks before her 64th birthday she published the first novel in an ongoing series. “The House on Infinity Loop” is the first book in a trilogy that will become just the first part of the 9 book Dimensional Alliance series. As of May 2022 there are 4 books published and a fifth one will debut November 2022.

When she is not writing, she likes to read, crochet hats for the homeless and gifts for friends and family, is active in her church and looks forward to being very involved with the fans of her books.

We recorded the interview on 1st October 2020 and what a coincidence that on the same date, 15 years ago, Nataliya and her best friend Tania, founded a theatre in a remote village in Transcarpathia, Ukraine. This project is very close to their heart, as it is encouraging children to engage with arts, it is free and it gives them the possibility of being creative and of building a different kind of path in future in various areas of arts. Usually, they organize a festival to raise funds much needed for running this project, but this year, due to obvious reasons, the festival was cancelled. So if you would like to encourage this project with any donation, here's a link to the JustGiving page.

But this is only one of the many things that Nataliya does to support her community.

Nataliya is normally organizing bespoke and authentic travel experiences in Ukraine (and beyond), but that was severely affected by the pandemic. However, before things go back and running, you should know about these amazing tours so that you can book them when conditions allow.

These travel experiences are very authentic, they are not your usual thing that you can find on the internet. Nataliya always has community and sustainability in mind, so she is very thoughtful about every single aspect of it: travel there and stay as local as possible; only use local transport and local services so that the money can go back to the community, without affecting it from a touristic point of view; engaging with local activities; trying local food and drinks; exploring nature; trying the best to not use any plastic and even doing cleanups etc.  In order to have a better idea about these tours, please visit the Experience Ukraine and Beyond Website.

The other thing that Nataliya does to support the small artisans, is promoting selling their carefully made crafts (sold at markets in the UK or on the website), from embroidered clothing made of very good quality fabrics, to wooden spoons, handwoven bulrush slippers etc.

Nataliya is a joy to talk to, and we even spoke about growing your own food, wonky veg, tasteless food, coriander, food waste and many more interesting subjects.

I hope you enjoy it.

You can find Nataliya as well on Facebook  or Instagram.

057-EN – Yulia Serbinovich about Chevening Awards and living in Wales

Yulia is an ambitious person, who is determined to make changes, no matter how small or big they are.

She is an advocate for human rights, she is recognized as an Outstanding Speaker by the UN Refugee Agency and she has been always involved in various local and international projects.

While studying and working in Moldova, she found out about Chevening awards and applied to pursue a MA in Communication, Media Practice and Public Relations at Swansea University in the United Kingdom, where she researched the brand strategies of Apple, Microsoft, and Boston Dynamics.

In this interview, Yulia told us more about the process of applying, her experience in Wales, a comparison to living in Moldova, and her favorite food and traditions in both places.

She was also very open about depression and how she changed her mindset. I love that she has a very insightful way of looking at things. She wants to raise awareness of good things in Moldova. She now works at the National Association of ICT Companies in the Republic of Moldova (ATIC) that stands for the promotion of the ICT sector, which has become bigger and more influential than the wine sector.

054-EN – Loredana Prijmireanu about studyig in the Netherlands and returning to Moldova

I found out about Loredana through The Moldovan Coffee Break – a project produced by the European Network with a series of interviews, in which they put a “spotlight on the country of Moldova and in particular, life for six young people so as to examine what it is like to grow up in the Moldova of 2021“.

Loredana, amongst other important duties, interviewed these people in order to share their stories, but this time she was the one being interviewed.

Find out in this episode about the drive behind Loredana’s wish to improve in her own way Moldova as we know it; her experience studying in the Netherlands and in Italy, her passion for culture, her return to Moldova and broadly speaking a comparison between different mentalities.

We also touched upon a subject that is very interesting for me: recycling and renewable energy.

În Marea Britanie a făcut Foundation Diploma, Hampstead School of Art, Graduate Diploma Fine Art, Chelsea College of Arts înainte de a studia la MA Fine Art, Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.

Ascultați podcastul marca Planable – People of Marketing aici.

Și apropo, co-fondatorii Planable sunt toți 3 pe lista Forbes 30 Under 30, iar Xenia a fost menționată recent și pe lista de 100 Women Founders In Europe To Follow.

050-EN – Anna Celac about feminism

050-EN – Anna Celac about feminism

I met Anna in 2013 at the European Parliament, when she came together with other amazing young women, part of the LeaderShe project. I loved meeting all those ladies and spotting big dreams and aspirations.

We kept in touch and I loved following Anna’s path so far. She not only has a very esthetic and delicate eye and passion for photography and travel, but is also using her platform to speak to her followers, especially to young girls, to share her views and information around social and political issues in the world.

A Chevening scholarship took her to Cardiff and one of her projects at uni was about feminism, a subject she is very passionate about.

In this episode, you will find out more about Găgăuzia, which is an autonomous part of Moldova, we will both express our thoughts on feminism and you will also find out Anna’s favorite 5: drink, food, song, movie and book. Enjoy.

049-EN – Marina Shupac about human rights and her award wining documentaries (one even broadcasted on the BBC)

049-EN – Marina Shupac about human rights and her award wining documentaries (one even broadcasted on the BBC)

Marina is a Human Rights journalist and practitioner and a documentary filmmaker. Her work is internationally recognized and her passion for storytelling is undeniable.

Her work experience includes reporting on major human rights issues in Moldova at NewsMaker;
Consulting in Minorities and Indigenous Peoples Section, Senior Minority Fellow at the United Nations Human Rights etc

After receiving a Chevening scholarship, she followed her passion that she had since she was little and went to study ethnographic and documentary filmmaking at the University College of London. While being there and with the support of her mentor, Marina applied for One World Media’s Global Short Docs Forum, where she was accepted and learned a lot about pitching to international broadcasters, which led to her first documentary Last Chance for Justice to be shown twice on BBC (it is still available on iplayer)

The film follows the story of Khadicha Askarova who has been campaigning for the release of her human rights activist husband who was imprisoned for crimes he said he didn’t commit. Marina filmed, interviewed, directed, produced and edited the movie herself. The pandemic, a hard personal loss and a very unexpected and sad turn of events made the process harder, but the film is now speaking for itself and putting a spotlight on the situation of many people in Kyrgyzstan.

Marina spoke candidly in this interview about the experience of making the movie, but also about the award wining short doc that followed: Box of Strawberries; her contribution to the Guardian coverage on Moldova during parliamentary elections in the Europe’s Baby Bust section; as well as many other interesting topics.

Marina is also a co-host alongside Alisa Kustikova on the podcast

048-EN - Victoria Dunford (awarded by HM The Queen) about her amazing charity work

048-EN - Victoria Dunford (awarded by HM The Queen) about her amazing charity work

Victoria is a force of nature and she uses that for good. Her caring personality is shaping her work that is focused on helping others and especially those who don’t have options.

Victoria was born in Moldova and after finishing her studies in analytical chemistry degree, she moved temporarily to the UK for work experience. Meanwhile she met her husband and established her life in the UK , but her heart was always in Moldova.

A few years later she founded a charity called Mad-Aid, initially with the aim of shipping redundant equipment from hospitals in the UK (starting with hospital beds and wheelchairs) to Moldova and eventually to other countries too. But nearly 10 years later, the list of achievements is more than impressive as Victoria always dreams big and works even harder.

A published book Get Mad!: The Life and Times of a Madwoman that is also contributing to financing the charity, a medal from HM the Queen and other awards later, Victoria is still in the humble mode, always learning, always striving to make this world a better place and to help people in need.

047-RO – Diana Muscă despre realizarea primului documentar legat de veganism in Romania

047-RO – Diana Muscă despre realizarea primului documentar legat de veganism in Romania

046-RO - Djulieta Ardovan despre lumea filmelor

046-RO - Djulieta Ardovan despre lumea filmelor

045-RO – Nadya Birca despre Digital Marketing, Academia Stepp Digital

045-RO – Nadya Birca despre Digital Marketing, Academia Stepp Digital

042-EN – Catherine Rocha-Davies about yoga, martial arts, books

042-EN – Catherine Rocha-Davies about yoga, martial arts, books

Catherine and I met in London about 7 years ago and even if there where months when we just each had our own priorities, we kept being friends and lately yoga actually got us closer, even if through Zoom!

This chat is a chat between friends, full of interesting stories and lots of laughter, but also lots of useful information, especially for people who are interested in martials arts and yoga.

Catherine told us about her studies, her past jobs; the very cool experience of being part of an all girl death metal band; her studies; how and why she came to the UK (I’m not going to spoil it, but there is a love story in there too and talking about spoiling, I once accidentally told Catherine how Anna Karenina ends while she was only half way through the book).

We then went on to talk about martial arts (Kung Fu, Thai Chi, Kickboxing – I might have mentioned Kung Fu Panda OUPS); the future plans for a charity aimed at elderly people or people who can’t afford paying for Thai Chi and Yoga: Wellbeing Mindfulness & Martial Arts.

Catherine explained more about the world of yoga and how it’s not just the physical exercise that we always associate yoga with, she talked with passion about teaching yoga and always learning and improving.

We made fun of our own accents and mistakes in English, Catherine also revealed that she knows a few words in Romanian, that was super cute! We, of course, talked about wine, literature, movies and all sort of heart warming subjects.

Sit back, relax and enjoy this episode, especially the part where Catherine talks us through a very relaxing breathing technique, you will be amazed to know how a small practice like this can improve your mood so much.

041-EN – Carolina Dogaru about studying abroad, becoming a law associate and passing the bar in a language that she didn't speak to start with

041-EN – Carolina Dogaru about studying abroad, becoming a law associate and passing the bar in a language that she didn't speak to start with

I have met Carolina many years ago in Brussels, when she was part of the group LeaderShe. Even back then I knew that Carolina, along with the other wonderful young women that I met, is on a very ambitious path.

After founding a nutrition project in Moldova with Irina Zuza, she decided upon the suggestion of a friend to study law in Moldova. She took it very seriously, as well as everything that she does. After finishing the Bachelor degree, she decided to apply for a Master degree in Maastricht and Rotterdam and she luckily received a scholarship in the latter. She was so grateful for that as she couldn’t afford living and studying abroad at the time, that she now founded a program with another Moldovan lady that will help financially students from Moldova who want to study abroad.

While in Rotterdam, Carolina applied for an internship in Luxembourg at the European Investment Bank so her path took her to a different location, where she continues living and working today. She is an Associate at Arendt & Medernach and that didn’t come easily of course and she worked very hard to prove herself as you will find out in the podcast.

If that doesn’t seem impressive enough, she also passed her bar in a language that she wasn’t speaking at the time: French.

But she also acknowledges the importance to make time to live your life fully, relax, travel etc and we covered all that and more on the podcast.

Listen to this episode because it is more than inspirational.

You can find Carolina on Facebook if you have questions about the program for students.

040-EN – Peter Tindall: stories related to Tajikistan after the fall of the Soviet Union, Iraq at the end of the war, Libya under the rule of Gaddafi; photography; engineering and other

Peter is a friend of mine, I’ve known him for his passion for photography and we did a few amazing projects together and we even have a winning photo – part of a series that also inspired the painting for my logo.

Apart from creative projects, we also had lovely dinners together: Mark and I and Peter and his amazing wife, whom I’ve admired for years. She is an inspirational woman, very smart and highly motivated, not to mention also very stylish and beautiful.

We had always interesting chats, but I took this opportunity to find out more about Peter’s career as a civil engineer. Peter has a bridge named after him in Kuwait, although he doesn’t take full credit for that.

His work took him to various places around the world, many of them exciting and scary at the same time. Peter says he decided a long time ago to be the type of person who says “why not” so it will be no surprise to hear his stories related to Tajikistan after the fall of the Soviet Union, Iraq at the end of the war, Libya under the rule of Gaddafi, Himalayas and not enough oxygen and many other stories that we didn’t have time to cover this time.

Peter also talked about sustainability in construction, Scotland and staycation; the fact that one of my paintings is on the same wall as a picture of Churchill (I feel more than honored); personal stories around art in the house; photography as a creative process and the team work that it involves.

It is always a pleasure to speak to Peter and I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy this episode.

035-EN – Nicoleta Cărpineanu about music, planting trees, yoga etc

Nicoleta is a person of many talents and she intertwined them in very beautiful and useful ways.

We talked about how she decided to be a DJ in the first place, it’s funny because I didn’t even know what the acronym stands for; we talked about her style and creative process, she is also a producer and composer and has her own record label Muzică Without Frontiers. By the way, she also had a gig in Chișinău, capital of Republic of Moldova wink wink.

After DJing for 20 years, Nico [de Transilvania] released her first album ‘Be One’ in 2019, featuring traditional folkloric instruments and songs from her homeland Transylvania. Its aim is to help preserve the old traditional instruments and folk songs from Transylvania and bring them back to life on an electronic dance music platform” source:https://www.forestswithoutfrontiers.org/album. You can buy the album here, “all album sales will go towards planting trees in Transylvania“.

We then went on to talk about her journey as a yoga teacher, how it helped her when she first moved to the UK, the formation in India, the certifications and her plans for yoga in nature.

And talking about nature, she is running an amazing charity called Forests without Frontiers with the aim of reforestation and preservation of ancient forests in Carpathian Mountains, Romania with big plans of expansion in other areas/countries. Nico loves connecting the art world with nature and there are a lot of interesting creative collaborations that you can learn more about on their website. The charity is always in need for support, so head over there to make a contribution or to become an ambassador: you can enquire at info@forestswithoutfrontiers.org, check out their newly launched line of eco friendly made T-shirts and hoodies https://forestswithoutfrontiers.co.uk/.

In this episode you will also learn about Nico’s experience as a social worker; teaching life skills for homeless people; the plans for a cook book, her new projects involving one using voices of children in the UK; her experience in the production of Wild Carpathia, looking after the elders of the forests and local communities and many other inspirational stuff.

We mentioned names like Francesca Martinez, Raoul Martinez, Stephen Fry, Russel Brand and even Prince Charles.

The music in the podcast is of course from Nico’s album so that you can get a taste of it (the tracks are called Ciuleandra Feat. Fluierașii & Andra Covaleov and Trece Doru Feat. Monooka & Abstract Source).

034-EN - Natalia Vanthienen about Belgium, making soap, pottery, food photography

Natalia @naturellebynatalia is expressing her creativity through many things, including making her own vegan soaps full of natural ingredients; making her own pottery (a zero waste activity); styling and taking beautiful pictures. These activities play a meditative role in her life, as she acknowledged after a depression how important it is to have time for your own self and for your family.

We talked about many things from life in Belgium, beer and food, the journey of soap making, pottery and photography and how they are all interlinked, how to take a good picture, recycling and taking care of nature and of your body (we also talked about the importance of sport, but only realized later that we talked in Romanian about it, so had to exclude that bit from the podcast haha!) and many other topics.

You can find Natalia on instagram @naturellebynatalia and on her website https://naturellebynatalia.com/contact/

033-RO - Diana Potra despre Girl Up Romania, egalitate de gen, probleme ecologice, violenta in familie, masculinitate toxica etc

030-RO - Cristina Burdulescu despre fitness, slabit treptat si sanatos

029-EN - Crina Andrei about life in India, Mayuri Jewellery, retreats in Bali

029-EN - Crina Andrei about life in India, Mayuri Jewellery, retreats in Bali

Crina's world is a manifestation of her dreams coming true one by one and it was so interesting to get a glance into her world; to speak to her and listen to her stories in more details, full of wise words, a lot of laughter and positive energy.

In this episode, we talked about the countries that Crina lived in so far, we stopped a bit more and talked about India, we talked about transformation, manifestation of dreams, allowing flexibility and change.

We also talked of course about her activities, including:

  • The retreats in Bali: how the idea came about and how she might be the first one to have brought this idea to Romania;
  • Mayuri Jewellery (and the story about Beyoncé borrowing a piece of jewellery made by Crina's team, also,  scrolling through Crina's photos, I just notice that Kate Middleton wore jewelry handcrafted by the same team of artisans that Crina is working with in Mumbai). The gems are sustainably sourced and the staff have very decent wages, I thought I should specify this as well.
  • Her online curses, how she managed her time during the pandemic and used it to put together the courses.

Crina also gave a few precious pieces of advice to help you get through these peculiar times (but these tips are useful for any time to be honest, so listen until the end to find out ;) ).

You can find Crina on her websites (https://mybarefootjourney.com; Mayuri – Fine Jewellery;  i am here | welcome); on Facebook  and on Instagram (@iamcrinaandrei; @mayuri_fine_jewellery; @mybarefootjourney)

028-EN - Vlad Ilich about Stand-Up and life in the UK (1)

028-EN - Vlad Ilich about Stand-Up and life in the UK (1)

Vlad is a Macedonian comedian who came to the UK to steal jobs (from the Romanians). And that's one of his jokes that I am trying to make as my own.

If you try to look him up by his name (at least on Ecosia as I use it more than Google), the results will come up with Lenin. And of course that sparked a full funny conversation (it's important that you don't take it seriously, in fact, every time the tone of the conversation got serious, Vlad was counting so that we don't step the mark and transform this into a TED talk).

We spoke about other subjects too (not necessarily in this order) like Borat 2;  camping; Dylan Moran; what does Vlad like in the UK and what he misses from back home (by the way, only realized after editing that the sarma is the same as Moldovan/Romanina sarmale); we talked about stereotypes; why I don't have any friends; what happened when Vlad drank pălinca, how did Vlad get into comedy and how he got the gig at the BBC Stand Up for Live Comedy (Margate) (that involves meeting producers who worked with people like Phoebe Waller-Bridge) and many other cool stuff that will make your day if you listen to this episode.

Please also remember that Vlad promised me a place in his future sitcom :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

You can find Vlad on his website (http://vladilich.com/, not launched just yet, but you can talk to a very funny and friendly robot meanwhile), on Twitter (@VladTheComedian), on Facebook (Vlad Ilich) and on his Instagram (@vlad_illich).

027-EN - Daniel Galmiche, multiple-Michelin-starred chef

027-EN - Daniel Galmiche, multiple-Michelin-starred chef

Daniel is an amazing multiple-Michelin-starred chef, with a very diverse international career. His awards and accolades speak for themselves , and just to give you a few examples: he was awarded the 2011 rising chef trophy for Relais et Chateau Worldwide, Restaurant of the Year 2012/2013 by Decanter magazine, and has holds position 82 on the list of the top 100 best restaurants in the UK by Restaurant magazine etc.

With regular appearances on various TV shows, I was delighted and couldn't believe that Daniel accepted an interview for my podcast!

He is very kind, approachable, humble and determined to educate people through food. You can find Daniel on instagram (@galmiche.daniel); on his website (danielgalmiche.co.uk) or on his YouTube channel.

We talked about various subjects: from what he misses from France and what he loves in the UK and especially in Scotland; sustainability and ways to be more eco at home; his books; the concept of having a Michelin star dinner at your own house (not during the pandemic of course); his "accents" in the way he cooks; his favorite dish cooked by his lovely wife; the importance of walking in nature, sitting down for a meal and enjoying the moment and many other important messages for you.

Talking about his books, Daniel wrote 2 cook books: French Brasserie (and Daniel so kindly gifted us a signed copy, it's absolutely superbe!)  and Revolutionary French Cooking (find out in this episode why Daniel didn't publish it in French).

He has written a 3rd book as well, it is not released just yet (available from 13th April, you can see the cover on this link with a gorgeous illustration on the cover).

Daniel is just a joy to talk to and his knowledge and love for food is just immeasurable.

I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. After I had the call with Daniel, I was just happy for the rest of the day, such an inspirational chat :)

025-EN - Elena Russu about painting in watercolor, architecture, art in general

025-EN - Elena Russu about painting in watercolor, architecture, art in general

Elena started a very interesting concept with her friend Svetlana: Sketch and Brunch - a Sunday meeting in a London café with various artists. And it's thanks to an online session with this group that I realized that I am better at listening and I am less nervous when I paint and talk and I had a vision of the last version of the concept of my podcast (because I have been thinking about making a podcast for more than a year, but I kept changing ideas in my head).

Since I met Elena online, she has been a great support for me: she always listens to my podcasts, but first and foremost she is very knowledgeable. As an artist herself, she has a keen interest in anything related to art: from techniques, materials, styles, artists, history, museums, movies etc.

Her background is in architecture so she can tell you a lot about that as well!

This episode is around art as you can imagine, we touched on various subjects like: pigments, the importance of art, modern art (which I sometimes don't understand haha), what is it like working as an architect in London and many other things, all of this while laughing our heads off!
