a call to action on behalf of mother's raising black sons
so, i asked two very dear friends, @k_lenise and @mischiefmanagedarts to help me record an episode on this very topic. our plea is to stop trying to analyze or understand these shootings as isolated incidents. they are one of many symptoms of systemic racism. that's like planting a diseased tree, failing to treat it at its root then wondering why it still produces bad fruit.
this episode is not designed to educate listeners on this history of systemic racism in america. there are already many pre-eminent voices in this space and, tbh, that is the work you need to do. but what it does, hopefully, is lay out a path from ally (shock/hashtag/run) to advocate (i'm educating, in relationship, and taking dismantling actions within my sphere of control). we've also pulled together a list - that is by no means exhaustive - of resources you can use to get started, which you can find here.
please listen. comment. share. discuss. and consider this an open invitation for us to grow and unlearn together. for those at the start of this painful work, know that doing this journey outside of relationship is the marked difference between feeling like you are being called out rather than being called in.
the stories behind the stories we tell ourselves/others about trauma (part 2)
part 2 - @inesmcbryde, fierce latina pastora and spiritual storyteller brings it hard in part 2 of the stories behind the stories we tell ourselves/others about trauma. together, we explore the possibility that there is some part of our stories written outside of ourselves and that the shitty chapters in life can still hold meaning and birth something something new in us.
using the powerful storytelling philosophy of alcoholics anonymous, ines reminds us that while not all stories are triumphant or tidy, they are all still powerful as long as they are true.
she takes us home with a heartfelt, universal blessing written for all of us revisiting past trauma or travailing new ones in for whoever needs to hear this right now.
the stories behind the stories we tell (ourselves/others) about trauma (part 1)
in this episode, therapist @elysesnipes_collective and storyteller @katiequesada come together and drop some knowledge on us about the stories behind the stories we tell ourselves and others about trauma.
join us for an enlightening conversation on why the COVID-19 pandemic is causing some folks to revisit past traumas or travail new ones, the path to resilience (read: not toxic positivity), and how to convert our inner monologue into stories of connection and healing.
my favorite takeaways from my new segment - for whoever needs to hear this right now...: "pay attention to the differnce between what you remember and what you know." - elyse "you have a valuable story and it's vital that you share what has happened to you." - katie
