Ep. 028 A Weekly Mashup: New Trend? Combining 4 Episodes Into 1
For the next few weeks I will be combining 4 episodes into one weekly roundup episode.
Monday: Mindset/Motivational (5-10 minutes)
Tuesday: Finance & Business Terms You Need To Know (5-10 minutes)
Thursday: Book Review (15-30 min)
Friday: Business & Money Lessons Learned from Sports (10 minutes)
I need your feedback.
Those were the originally scheduled days. It's going to work better for my schedule for a while to do a weekly digest instead of posting an episode every day.
OR I can continue to do to the shorter episodes each day.
Which would you prefer?
Friday's episode this week we dive into the importance of learning a schedule and being accountable.
Be sure to go back to a couple of our past guests that dived deeper into this subject:
Lauren Schwab from episode 006
OR
Ryan Fuller from episode 008
Then we go into Tuesday's topic. Today I explain what assets and liabilities are, and what makes them different. How important they are and how they will effect your bank account.
Monday's Mindset episode is combined with the book review part of the episode.
We finish part 2 of 4 from How To Win Friends & Influence People.
The Language of Money #1: Intro + Examples
Language is one of the most powerful things in our world today. It has the power to motivate. Language can educate people on any topic and becoming educated on money is what this show is about.
From our last episode with Mark England, we got an introduction to just how powerful our words and language is in our lives. Too often in life we use slang and start to use multiple words to convey one message even though each word technically has its own definition although they may be similar.
Getting too comfortable with slang can be costly and we can miss out on opportunities because we sound too naive or don't have enough information to know the difference between words or phrases. You could tell someone something thinking it has one meaning and all of a sudden they're pissed off because they use the technical definition and it has a different meaning.
One example is this. I'm a strength and conditioning coach, personal trainer. I've had some clients tell me they want to tone up and get long lean muscles. I understand what it is that they're trying to say but they're not using the words as they're literally meant. "Tone" refers to muscle tone and tension and doesn't really have to do with "being shredded" like most people would mean. You also can't make your muscles any longer than they already are. This is an example of advertisements from magazines and the media. So I would be slightly annoyed when people talked like this but it is a matter of educating people to know the difference.
There are many examples like this, the "popular or masses" definition and the technical/literal definition.
Each week on Tuesday's from here on out I will do 5-10 minute episodes breaking down a few different words or phrases that are important to money and finance.
Their textbook definition as well as examples of them in the real world.
Today's example is the different between credit score & credit report. These examples were brought to you from Ramit Sethi and his best selling book "I Will Teach You To Be Rich"
You can check out his book from the link here.
Ep. 26: The Language of Success w/ Mark England
Mark England has been studying methods and techniques for personal empowerment for the last decade. He has a Masters degree in international education, is an NLP Master Practitioner, has had a full-time private language practice for the last eight years, and is the Founder and CEO of Empowered Language Systems. In his spare time Mark likes to travel, dance, practice martial arts, and have fun.
He has his own Tedx Talk which is a very powerful watch, you can check it out here.
In this episode we break down how the words we use both out loud and in our heads changes our lives. How our bank accounts are effected by language. Our personal relationships are effected. How well or poorly we play can be determined by the words we use. It all matters.
Stay tuned until the end to learn how to get signed up for the giveaway of Mark's flagship program, Procabulary. You can learn more about his course here.
Millionaire Mindset Mondays - Focus Your Way To Riches
Setting The Stage For Long Term Financial Success with Pat Rigsby
In the past decade Pat has built over a dozen businesses as a CEO and Co-Owner, with five becoming million dollar or multi-million dollar ventures. Two of those businesses, Athletic Revolution and Fitness Revolution, have been multiple time winners on the Entrepreneur Franchise 500 with each being the #1 franchise for it’s respective market.
He's a thought leader and sought out expert in business, fitness, finance and beyond.
Millionaire Mindset Monday: Will You Accept The Challenge?
One word.
Gratitude.
That one word can change your life, if you stick with it. Being grateful for all the things in your life. The money you have. The car you drive. The friends you have. Family. Health.
The opposite of gratitude is scarcity. Fear. Being limited. Not having enough. FOMO = Fear of Missing Out
Money is attracted to those who are grateful and appreciative of what they have. So should you.
Your objective from this episode is for the next 7 days, write down in Evernote (or your preferred notes app) 5 different things you're grateful for every morning.
They must be different from each day. No day can have the same 2 things written down. Challenge yourself to find new things to be grateful for, big or small.

How the Rich Think Vs How The Poor Think: Costs & Investments
In today's Millionaire Mindset Monday episode, we talk about knowing an important distinction in how rich people think and how poor people think. We must know the difference between:
Costs vs Investments
Too many people look at things in their lives as expenses and costs.
"How much is that going to cost me?"
"What do you charge for ....?"
"Is this going to be expensive?"
This is how poor people think. Cost. Expense. They're scared and worried about losing their money. That they will make a "bad deal". When they look at the menu at a restaurant, before they check what kind of food they want to eat, they look at how much it costs. Which one is more expensive than the other.
It could be food, gas, housing, bills, fees, insurance, etc. Doesn't matter what it is, most poor people continually ask themselves how much is this going to cost me.
Rich people think in a different capacity.
"What will my return be on this investment?"
"How much do I need to invest to be apart of this group?"
"Will this yield a positive or negative return on my money/time/energy/etc?"
Rich people look at these same matters and ask themselves the flip side. They're looking for a return on their money. What's the plus side of spending that little bit extra?
Is it a smart decision for me to spend my time here?
What can I gain by getting involved in this company?
Start today by flipping the two words and see how that can change your perspective on what you're doing regularly.
Ep 20: How He Built A Wildly Successful Business From Scratch While Playing Professional Baseball w/ Ben Brewster
Our guest today is Mr. Ben Brewster of Tread Athletics. Ben's story is a very special one. He took himself from a being a skinny lefty pitcher barely breaking 80 mph to throwing 95 mph & getting drafted by the Chicago White Sox. What makes this story so special is how Ben did all the research and education to do this on his own. Trial and error.
He created a very popular blog in the pitching world that helped propel him to the success he's having today. Now he runs the most successful pitcher training program in all of baseball, training hundreds of pitchers across the country. Not only did he build this business from scratch but he did it all while he was training and playing professional baseball.
Ben tells us how he did it and more. We talk about how we can find the time in our schedule to do this as well as how to recruit yourself and get to the dream school that you want to play for.
So much more going on in this episode you won't want to miss.

Millionaire Mindset Monday: Changing Your Money Beliefs & Creating A Rich Environment.
Get your money mind right with today's episode. There's so many ways we sabotage ourselves and most of the time, it starts with our thoughts which then turns into our language and creates our environment.
Ever heard somebody say:
"Money is the root of all evil."
"Rich people are greedy."
How we talk about our money or somebody else's money, life, we start to create negative patterns and repel money from us. Our beliefs are strong opinions and they're how we view things. The glasses of our lives.
First we must change the internal (thoughts) and external (words) language that we have with ourselves and with others.
Secondly is we must find new beliefs that support the life and results we want. Changing the words we use is a big piece of that.
We build these beliefs up by having the confidence in that area and seeing those results slowly start to roll in. It's about about acquiring new skills, forming new relationships, reading more books, etc.
That's how we start to build new confidence levels and belief levels.
Thursday Book Review: Pt 1. How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie
This is the official first edition of book review Thursday's. Today's episode is about How To Win Friends & Influence People. An all-time classic book that everybody needs to get on, which is why we're reviewing it today.
This book is about 250 pages long. Not an entirely long book but it's very dense with important knowledge that I decided to break this up into 4 parts because that's how the book is broken up. There's so much going on and it's all so important to our daily lives that I didn't want to gloss over or make light of certain topics or not even cover other topics just for the sake of time.
If you're listening to this and reading this, you're likely the kind of person who not only values their time, also values good knowledge and would take a longer time to go through things if it had value. Which we do here at The Money Minded Athlete.
Each chapter has 1 main principle. Learn and practice each principle throughout the week.
Part 1: Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
Chapter 1: "If you want to gather honey, don't kick over the beehive."
Principle 1: "Don't criticize, condemn or complain."
Chapter 2: The Big Secret of Dealing with People
Principle 2: Give Honest & Sincere Appreciation
Chapter 3: "He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot walks a lonely way."
This book is a must have for every athlete. You can check it out here on Amazon. Whether you want the physical book like me or prefer the audio or ebook version. Either way, it's a must read.
Ep 17: Learning The Fundamentals of Business w/ Andy Powers
Welcome back to the Money Minded Athlete show. Glad you're here today because this is going to be one of the most action packed episodes yet.
Today's guest has a very strong marketing background and that's what we're diving into. Where to start with marketing and why is it so important for an athlete to learn about this.
You'll learn how your bank account is effected by marketing and how to increase it by increasing your marketing skills and know how.
You'll learn about the different types of marketing as well as the foundational pieces of it for every business. You're going to see how marketing effects us all and we hardly even know it.
One of the most important marketing strategies you will learn has nothing to do with business and everything to do with us as an individual and how much we care.
So much knowledge today. Here's the link to the resources we mentioned in the show:

This week's guest is surrounding himself with rich and successful business owners from all walks of life. And do you know what that can do for your life?
Totally revamp it.

Drewbie's nature and demeanor aren't that of the usual athlete. Don't this man fool you. He's a weapon when he's hungry. The first time I saw this man he was bending steel rods & ripping phone books in half with his bare hands.
We talk his story of humble beginnings to the success he has now being the right hand to a mogul in the sales & business world. Not some social media fly by night influencer. A proven character in his craft and connecter of the greatest and richest minds in the professional world today. Ryan Stewman is that mogul and Drewbie is learning from these connections and experiences.
He shares his stories of triumph and dark lows. He also shares some sales insights that will instantly bring in more revenue. On top of that he shares some creative ways that young athlete's can make good money working part-time from anywhere in the world and you can do it at your own schedule.

Millionaire Mindset Monday: Pullin Your Own Weight - Taking Ownership of Your Finances
Life is a great big circle and one we're grateful to be blessed with. It's also something easily taken for granted. It's time that we started taking ownership of our own lives in all areas.
PullinMyOwn weight is what this life is all about.
As we go from high school to the "real world" we must continue to evolve and mature. Responsibility isn't something we can outrun and neither is educating yourself about your finances.
Now is always a great time to take control of your life and to learn to have your own voice.
If you don't take care of yourself, nobody else will do it for you.
Go ahead and leave a review on iTunes so this show can continue to grow. Your help is what I need to share this message with more athlete's.
Ep 14: First Book Review - Setting The Foundation For Financial, Athletic & Personal Success
Books are an instrumental part in mankind. They've told stories and educated us since the first book was written many, many years ago. One of the best books of all time is where we start:
"How To Win Friends & Influence People" - Dale Carnegie
The Only Book You Need To Lead You To Success
Everything we do in life really revolves around our interactions with other human beings. We trade money for products or services. We trade time and resources to get what we want. Human psychology is one of the most powerful things in this world and this book gives great personal insights into human nature.
In this episode, we breakdown the principles that are taught in this book that will help you read every other book and also to lead you down a successful path in both your personal and professional lives.
We will be splitting up this book into 4 parts starting next week. It's such a foundational book that not only do I need to reread it but it's one that I believe everybody can benefit from reading.
Here's my challenge to you athlete's:
Monday - Friday:
Read 5 pages per day of a non-fiction, personal development, sales, business, finance, etc book.
Something that is going to give you actionable and knowledgeable information.
5 pages isn't a lot and it's just during the week. I challenge you further to do it before you leave for school or practice in the morning.
That's all I have for you this episode. If you would be so kind as to leave a review, that's the best way you can give back. Go to iTunes and leave a 5 star review or whatever star you deem this podcast fit.
Millionaire Mindset Monday: A Rich Bank Account Doesn't Care About Your Age
Ever heard somebody say "You're too young to be working."
Or "I'm too young to be rich."
Or "I'm too old to be using technology."
People use age (young and old) as a crutch on a regular basis. Some know it and just accept it. Others truly believe that they're too young or too old to do certain things. Most of the time, it's simply not true. Outside of physical limitations, most of the things this podcast is geared towards educating you on is more than possible for any age to take action on.
Maybe you're a freshman who was told that you have to earn your dues and that seniors come first. Traditional sports mentality. While there's some truth to that, how is it that some freshman start over seniors? There are only the limitations we put in our minds.
If you like this episode, leave a review on iTunes. That's the one thing I really ask is for you to just leave an honest review. It will help to grow the show and bring more listeners. Share this with a friend who you think needs to get their mind and their money right.
Ep 12: How Having The Right Coach Can Make or Break Your Financial & Athletic Career w/ Dr. Sean Pastuch

Today's episode features Dr. Sean of Active Life Rx and the Active Life Podcast. He is an influencer in the athletic and fitness space, helping athlete's across the country to overcome chronic injuries from anywhere in the world without having to go to a doctor. He also runs a successful fitness business consulting practice that allows those in the industry to run profitable communities and impact their clients at different levels they weren't able to in the past.
As an athlete we all know the value of having a good coach and what that can do for your team as well as your athletic career. By now, you should also know that the sport of the boardroom is no different. Dr. Sean breaks down the value of a great coach in different areas of our lives from financial to personal to business to the field. We must continue to educate and immerse ourselves in the success of those playing the game at a higher level than us or suffer the consequences of what is to come.

Millionaire Mindset Monday's - Winning The "Mental" Game from Millionaire Mind Intensive | Ep 007
Monday's are meant for us to get our minds right. As a young athlete, we don't know how to manage, earn or handle significant amounts of money. Nobody has really taught us. The mind is where the riches begin.
On our second edition of Millionaire Mindset Monday's, I discuss how important it is to win the money game in the mind first. Today's episode is from an event I attended in Dallas last year called the Millionaire Mind Intensive. An intensive 3 day event that discusses the attitudes, mindset, and strategies of the wealthy.
One of the take homes from the event was an affirmation card that has two sides. Winning the "Mind" game and winning the "money" game. Today we talk the mind game side first. Here's the 10 affirmations for the mind game:
$ I create my life. I create the exact amount of my financial success.
$ I play the money game to win. My intention is to create wealth and abundance.
$ I admire and model rich and successful people.
$ I believe money is important, money is freedom and money makes life more enjoyable.
$ I get rich doing what I love.
$ I am a generous giver and an excellent receiver.
$ I am truly grateful for all the money I have now.
$ Lucrative opportunities always come my way.
$ My capacity to earn, hold & grow money expands day-by-day.
Highly recommend reading these affirmations to yourself a couple of times a day. In the morning and in the evening.

Ep 004: How To Overcome The Evil Empire That is College & Dominating Yourself w/ Thomas Bland II
Today's guest brings a lot of passion and fire to the show. We talk about humble beginnings and creative ideas on how to make some extra money while you're still in school.
Thomas is also very passionate about how corrupt college athletics is and the system that is most universities & college's. Debt is piling up. Graduates are getting decreased salaries. People are changing majors multiple times in their college career. It is a very costly system that has very little guidance for the young, naive athlete who just wants to play their sport.
We talk about how you can play the system right and take advantage of the school system instead of it playing you.
We go deep into the conversations we have with ourselves around money. The negativity it has and how you can overcome that struggle and propel yourself to success, no matter your background.
