Catherine Murray Lowe, 34, followed her 5 year old stepdaughter Anna Celeste into a bathroom at their Sunset Villa mobile home in south Bossier.  Shortly after that, they say they heard a very loud thump and when they went to the bathroom, Anna Celeste was lying on the floor in obvious pain and was vomiting.

The emergency room staff told Bossier Sheriff’s investigators that the child arrived at the hospital at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011, and tests that were conducted indicate the time of death to be approximately 2 hours prior to the child’s arrival. Catherine Lowe drove her stepdaughter around in the car waiting for her to die before taking her to ER.

Zaela's grandmother, late on August 21 said she heard a loud thud coming from her granddaughter's bedroom that woke her up. She ran into the hallway and saw Zaela's father (Beasley) carrying Zaela, who was crying. Beasley said he'd gotten angry and thrown a cot against the wall after Zaela wet herself. He took the child into the bathroom to clean her off. The next day, Zaela and her parents Lakeia and Beasley disappeared.

After being found the police interviewed Lakeia several times, and she failed a polygraph test. She claimed Zaela was with various other people, including Beasley's ex-girlfriend, his brother, and his mother. The information she provided "led detectives to believe that Zaela was not alive." 

Lakeia had lied and said Beasley took her in mid-August and refused to return her, but after August 23 she suddenly stopped showing any concern about her daughter's whereabouts or well-being. She didn't even try to call or text Zaela on the child's third birthday, or send her a card or present.

A mother sentenced to life in prison for killing six of her newborn babies keeping a secret in the garage for 10 years. The six newborn babies each lived less than 2 minutes before their mother, lost in a haze of desperation and addiction, pressed her thumbs to their throats and choked them.

"She remembered using a hair tie one time … to be sure," Pleasant Grove police detective Dan Beckstrom testified at Megan Huntsman's sentencing hearing Monday.

"Why?" prosecutors asked.

"To be sure it was dead," Huntsman explained to Beckstrom.

Huntsman, 40, pleaded guilty to six counts of murder, a first-degree felony. She was sentenced to six terms of five years to life in prison for murdering the babies between 1996 and 2006, then packaging their bodies and hiding them in her garage for years to come.

On October 25, 1994, Susan Smith reported to police that her vehicle had been carjacked by a black man who drove away with her sons still inside. For nine days, she made dramatic pleas on national television for their safe return. 

However, following an intensive investigation and a nationwide search for them, she confessed on November 3, 1994 to letting her car roll into nearby John D. Long Lake, drowning them inside. Her motivation was reportedly to facilitate a relationship with a local wealthy man named Tom Findlay. Prior to the murders he sent Smith a letter ending their relationship and expressing that he did not want children. She said that there was no motive nor did she plan the murders, stating that she was not in a right state of mind. Susan Smith still denies that the motive was to be with this man, when shortly after reading his letter she set her plans into motion.

After reading troubling Facebook posts earlier in the evening, concerned neighbors notified the police, reporting that Dee Dee might have fallen victim to foul play and that Gypsy Rose, whose wheelchair and medications were still in the house, might have been abducted. The following day, police found Gypsy Rose in Wisconsin, where she had traveled with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, whom she had met online. When investigators announced that she was actually an adult, and was not suffering from any of the physical and mental health issues which her mother claimed she had, public outrage over the possible abduction of a severely disabled girl gave way to shock and some sympathy for Gypsy Rose. A mother with Munchausen by Proxy who used her daughter to obtain welfare benefits, subjecting her daughter to unnecessary medications and surgeries and kept her bound to a wheelchair when she could really walk.
