MsWeedwiki SPEAKS Podcast - An ongoing journey of education in cannabis. Normalizing cannabis.Feb 28, 2021
“You gotta get in where you fit in” discussing the transition from legacy to legal weed with brand wizard Shooks Dynamo aka Shaka Wright
For our 31st episode I was joined by the amazingly charismatic Shaka Wright aka Shooks Dynamo. Shooks is a self-professed ganja baby who comes from a long line of cannabis dealers in Jamaica. Growing up around weed meant he had a very normalized view of cannabis which has followed him throughout life.
“Half of my crew got their names off of something that happened when we were high”
In this discussion we learned about Shooks’ early days of distributing cannabis and you might be surprised to hear how vividly he remembers the very first time he got high. Having grown up watching his dad and uncles running cannabis, Shooks described the time police came to arrest his dad for dealing and the impact it made on his life thereafter.
“I saw how convictions changed a lot of peoples’ lives”
When legalization arrived, he knew he had to get into the cannabis game however the Canadian emerging industry didn’t make it easy. He applied literally everywhere and started to question his value until a glance in his junk folder changed things for the better.
“I wanna see these big players, I wanna see everybody get their returns and get out the way so that we can see the real growers”
“I wanna bring pride back into growing”
Today Shooks works for an LP promoting several different brands throughout Ontario's cannabis retailers. He also does brand consulting and marketing promotion on the side. You can find Shooks and his company Shooks Dynamo Marketing on Instagram at @shooksdynamo and @ganjababy.420
“I used to be so discreet. Now? I’m boasty as shit, you could smell YOU COULD TELL”

"I began to find my power" a conversation with legacy CannaQueen Miz D (Danielle Jackson)
I'm thrilled to be joined by a such a powerhouse pioneer in the Canadian canna-tourism space for our THIRTIETH episode. Miz D is a not only a long time cannabis enthusiast, but she’s been a Vancouver-based cannabis educator, activist and consultant for decades. Having used cannabis since 1977, we learn extensively about the challenges and obstacles she’s faced as a Black woman using cannabis in western Canada in the 70s & 80s. Our listeners can expect to hear about both the bitter and sweet of Miz D’s cannabis journey. From her early days as a street kid in Vancouver, to hitchhiking across the country, you can just imagine the types of characters, and situations she would encounter in her efforts to secure cannabis during its prohibition. Her past careers include managing casinos on cruise lines, certified hypnotherapist and she’s also a reggae musician.
“I feel the approach is what creates the problem”
Miz D shares with us her thoughts on what Canada did wrong in their federal legalization process and current reality. We also learn of how she entered the cannabis industry in the previously nonexistent cannatourism market. Miz D is a true pioneer in the medical canna-tourism field and is currently in the Yucatan Mexico.
“Cannabis was a therapeutic tool, whether your intention or not was to use it that way”
While often dubbed the CannaQueen of Canada, Miz D also embraces her Stoner Chick culture fully. Our discussion really allows the listeners to hear about the importance of embracing the culture of cannabis when using the plant. When a neurological condition caused her to have to leave her career at sea, she began to look at what entrepreneurship looked like. She took things she was passionate about, like holistic wellness and combined it with her love for travel and cannabis.
“My kids and grandkids have a different upbringing with cannabis, it’s normal for them”

“I feel that I’m fluent in duck” a conversation with Bobby Sharma of the Big Sharm Show
For my 29th podcast episode I was joined by the amazing cannabis enthusiast, fitness personal trainer, media personality and host of the Bigg Sharm Show on the Clubhouse App: Bobby Sharma.
It seems only fitting that Bobby’s cannabis journey literally started over 1500 miles away from his Scarborough, Ontario home, on a high school spring break trip in Daytona Beach, Florida. As a long time media personality & talk show host, Bobby is such an interesting guest who’s authentic about his cannabis experiences and growth.
His love of hip hop, NBA basketball and passion for adventure and learning makes both talking and listening to him, tremendous fun. Some examples of where our topics included WHO he would smoke with if he had the chance.
One of my favourite discoveries in our episode was learning how Bobby wakes & bakes each morning by a local neighborhood pond with an amazing regular smoke buddy, a duck.
Bobby Sharma can be found on Clubhouse, in the Big Sharm Show Club which features the popular Big Sharm Show’s Weed Wednesdays on Wednesday nights at 10pm. On this show you’ll hear all kinds of crazy cool things – so make sure to check it out!

"That's your healing calling" discussing multi-generational medical cannabis in Florida with Nikki Rouse
For our 28th episode we were joined by Nikki Rouse, not only a fellow Budsista, but also a photographer, cannabis patient and doula-in-training. She’s also a mentor/facilitator of the all-women online community called The Porch. During our discussion we learned about Nikki’s journey in cannabis which started as a sort of family undertaking when her son first approached her as a teenager about his cannabis use while self-medicating for anxiety. Those early discussions led to deciding as a family to pursue obtaining their medical cannabis cards and Niki describes the family affair of collectively going to their scheduled clinic appointments.
While getting medical cards for three generations of family members was a somewhat easy decision to come to, obtaining them brought along its own challenges. For example, when Nikki’s mom became a medical cannabis patient, her healthcare providers elected to reduce her chronic pain medications without consulting her or providing alternative options.
Listeners will also learn about Nikki’s work in photography and her passion for learning about becoming a birth and transition doula and her amazing plans to integrate the two.

“There’s a ritual to smoking a spliff” discussing joint-rolling & navigating the Weed Man with entrepreneur Erica Edwards.
I’m really glad I was able to get together with my fellow Budsista, entrepreneur and long-time cannabis smoker Erica Edwards. In discussing her journey listeners hear firsthand the challenges that so many Black women faced when using cannabis, such as securing cannabis safely AND being able to find reliable product.
“Navigating the weed man was I would say a big challenge”
Since legalization in Canada women can now not only grow their own cannabis plants for personal use but we can also walk into dispensaries and make our own purchases instead of relying solely on the long-fabled Weed Man.
“One of the best things that happened was when my weed man was a woman”
Our discussion together allowed us to reflect on how significantly male-dominated cannabis sources and spaces have been in our community and how this can now change following legalization. In addition we learned about what inspires her on her various entrepreneurial businesses such as her cannabis pre-roll company Diva Dose and Embellished Dreams.
“The things we do are often ghetto or marginalized until white people do them”
“There’s a ritual to smoking a spliff”
“Diva Dose was started because I love fancy things, I love beautiful things but I also love practical.”

"I was looking for alternative ways to partake" with reiki healer & herbal tea company owner Tianna Brown
For our 26th episode I was pleased to be join by cannabis enthusiast, reiki healer and owner of the Autumn Sky tea company Tianna Brown
We discussed Tianna’s journey with cannabis and how becoming a mother prompted her to alter the way she consumed. While smoking is still her favourite way to consume, she also enjoys drinking her cannabis by incorporating it with her artisanal tea blends. Her favourite herbs to smoke and steep as tea include damiana, lavender, passionflower and rose.
Tianna is a mother, wife, reiki healer and while the pandemic has certainly had its impact, she’s become a pretty good cook and has mastered a way to infuse my favourite Moxies dessert: the white chocolate brownie.

“It’s about time because EVERYBODY smokes weed” discussing multi-generational cannabis use with cannabis enthusiast Jason Mr. Burgz Fraser
Have you ever asked yourself how long it would take you to smoke an entire ounce of weed? When asked, my next guest said he could smoke an ounce in 4 days. For our 24th episode I’m joined by one of my oldest longtime friends, Jason Mr. Burgz Fraser. I met Jason back in the ninth grade and our dads, grew up together too!
Our listeners will learn about Jason’s file-long relationship with cannabis which actually spans generations. A multi-generational Black Canadian with deep roots throughout Nova Scotia, Jason grew up around cannabis seeing his dad, and uncles smoking together in the front room. We talked about his excitement at achieving the family milestone of getting to smoke cannabis with the ‘adults’ once he turned 18 years old. That family tradition has passed on to his own children, and now Jason is cohost of a new podcast debuting this month called Gas Station Montreal where he and his cohost have every kind of conversation while using cannabis.

"If history has shown us anything..." discussing cannabis prohibition & much more with Tiffany Watkins of Vanguard Media Online
“There is more work to be done when it comes to this beautiful plant”
For our TWENTIETH Episode I'm proud to feature Tiffany Watkins, founder of Vanguard Media Online, a magazine & event company that celebrates the achievements of women in cannabis.
This Vancouver Washington based media maven shares with us her early journey with cannabis, her long time history of cannabis activism and advocacy and her passion for uplifting women in cannabis space.
I loved and appreciated talking with Tiffany about the wrongs that need correcting with cannabis amnesty and robust social equity programs or policies wherever cannabis is legalized. Preferably from the start of the adult use legalization process.
“Let’s not open a AU (adult use) state without understanding that a social equity format program, whatever you want to call it, needs to be in place”
This and so many other great takeaways can be found to think about and even get behind. If our discussion encourages you to look into what social equity programs look like in your particular jurisdiction, even better!
“Be knowledgeable about why social equity needs to exist”
“Vanguard stands as a movement to push women forward for us to be listened to.”
“We need to solidify that we’re serving the proper interests”
Our audience also was introduced to Vanguard Media’s upcoming 710 Event. For those who want to know what 710 stands for you’ll need to listen t our episode together to find out, or check out Vanguard Media Online for their 710 Event details happening this summer.

Podcast Listener review #1
Reaction & commentary recorded by a listener of the MsWeedWiki SPEAKS Podcast
“You can’t get higher than high” a discussion on the Alberta cannabis scene with Anisha of HighKu Co.
In our nineteenth MsWeedWiki SPEAKS episode I’m joined by Edmonton-based cannabis entrepreneur and educator Anisha who is owner of the vegan & gluten free cannabis lifestyle company called HighKu Co. that offers everything from edibles to topicals & sensual oils.
We learned about Anisha’s very own journey with cannabis use “my dad had MS and used to medicate with cannabis” and how she’s practices intention with her cannabis use. I really feel our listeners will get ground-level sense of why “Right now Alberta is killing the game” in Canadian cannabis.
In addition, because HighKu.Co services clients across Canada we were given a peek at her insights on the cannabis buying habits of Canadians everywhere…
“In Ontario most of our customers really just like flower. Not so much edibles”
“BC is very sexual, very edible. They’re kinda freeminded”
“Manitoba is strictly edibles, they don’t want anything else”
“Nova Scotia they love their edibles, they love their juices and teas”

“From nothing to something here we are” discussing the Boston cannabis scene with Erica Ricky Blaze of the Blaze Estate
In this our 18th episode, I’m joined by the Boston cannabis influencer, educator and entrepreneur Erica Ricky Blaze. Erica is the owner of the CBD beauty wellness boutique Yitty Committee as well as producer of the Blaze Estate, a YouTube show elevating and amplifying cannabis brands and products from the Boston area cannabis scene. She also discusses the cannabis stocks and investments she’s following in her very own cannabis investment guide called Smoke the Market.
In our chat we learned her journey with cannabis as well her experiences using cannabis following legalization. I found she provided some high level insights as to how social equity is being challenged in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We also learned a bit about the Commonwealth Dispensary Association and the nuance of how the legacy and legal markets coexist. As Erica says herself “I’m not going to paint Boston like a utopian paradise because it’s not”.

“I kept my eye on the prize of learning” discussing medical cannabis education with Stacy Bobak
For this episode I was thrilled to be joined by one of my colleagues, certified cannabis educator, patient advocate and founding member of the Peoples Alliance of Cannabis in Canada (PACC) and EduCanNation Stacy Bobak. Together we discussed her with medical cannabis, the founding of her cannabis education company called CannaDent and why she’s just as passionate about the cannabis plant as she is about oral health.
Early on in the podcast the listener learns of the impacts of the negative stigmas associated on a patient’s ability to access quality or any real medical cannabis education. We also learned about the important work she’s doing both in her own business CannaDent, as well as her work with both EduCanNation and PACC.
Some of the ways and things we can do to reverse the stigma about cannabis with healthcare professionals are:
a) Talk about your medical cannabis use with your all your health providers. I know you may draw an awkward reaction from your health care provider however this informs your practitioner of your usage and will prompt them to have to learn more about to stay informed on how to support your care.
b) Ask your doctor to learn more about the endocannabinoid system and how it works with cannabinoids in cannabis, even better if you do some research on your own and tell them about it.
c) Push our provincial government, particularly the ministry of health to cover the cost of cannabis educator visits through provincial health insurance plans.

Listeners can expect to hear plenty of business insights from this long-time entrepreneur in the Canadian cannabis space. I found her description of the Green Rush Program inspiring and her Tantric Cannabis Couple Retreats intriguing. "Cannabis to heal, psilocybin to grow" with Reverend Kelly Addison of Kelly's Green Lounge
On this episode of the MsWeedWiki SPEAKS Podcast I had the lovely opportunity to sit with Reverend Kelly Addison, who is a minister of the first ever church of cannabis in Canada. Not only is she a huge cannabis advocate and reiki practitioner but she also operates the first licensed cannabis lounge in Durham region Ontario called Kelly's Green Lounge.
Getting to know Kelly through our work on the Peoples Alliance of Cannabis in Canada meant that I learned pretty early on that she’d be a wonderful resource to introduce to not only my listening audience but for cannabis enthusiasts worldwide. In our discussion we learned of her journey with cannabis, and her deep connection with the plant. Her voice will warm and lull your spirits while she drops amazing gems of knowledge about the cannabis plant and psilocybin.
Some of my favourite quotes from our session together are:
“You just have to think of Porno without the P. That’s how I want you to always remember my tiny little village.”
“The lounge became a church”
“When you consume cannabis that is actually who you are.”
“When you ask me if I’m going down the path of psilocybin 100 percent I am there”
I’m really glad I was able to introduce such a staunch advocate for the cannabis plant to my listening audience.
Even more thrilled we were able to clarify that she’s not interested in marrying Aquaman’s Jason Momoa. LOL
As owner operator of Kelly’s Green Lounge, you can find Reverend Kelly online at www.kellysgreenlounge.ca

And through her Facebook group: Kelly’s Green Lounge
I highly recommend you check out the various education materials and programs she offers to educate everyone on cannabis including her critically acclaimed Homeostasis Hippie program.

"The Fun Thing About Being a Drug Dealer" with the Master of Marijuana Chantel Phillpotts
Our discussion with the amazing Ontario-based cannabis sommelier begins with her initial love for cannabis. You may find yourself struck as I was by this young woman's vulnerability and strength in sharing how she struggled to overcome an unhealthy addiction to mixing tobacco with cannabis. Chantel’s extensive research (both professional and experiential) has helped her to become not only an amazing budtender but a true educator and retail professional on the cannabis plant and its properties. Listeners can expect to come away from this episode with a deeper knowledge of cannabis, terpene profiles, what she likes about the licensed producers she praises as well as the type of value she brings to her retail customers, and some of the brands she loves. Chantel’s passion for cannabis is so unmistakable that by the end of the 45 minute discussion you’ll have zero doubts as to why she IS the Master of Marijuana.

"Quebec is PETTY" with Montreal's urban radio morning show host Wizzy Moonchaser - an honest discussion about cannabis access in Montreal.
This episode features the first Montreal urban radio show host to feature 8 weeks of giveaways on community radio Wizzy Moonchaser. I first met Wizzy when I was a guest on his 85th episode of the Running With Wolves podcast. (You can check that episode out at www.franklinarmstrong.com)
In this episode I'm interviewing Wizzy (for a refreshing change) as he shares his cannabis journey, his plans & goals for Running With Wolves podcast in 2021 as well as his opinions on the legal cannabis retail infrastructure in Quebec. It probably only took a matter of minutes for me to end up scratching my head over the information collection practices & prices of the SQDC. While it is possible that Quebec had some plans for cannabis legalization & retailer framework, the execution of same remains lacking. The SQDC has yet to live up to its hopes of being "the Walmart of cannabis" in Quebec and long lineups outside of dispensaries are still a thing.
We also discussed the really important stuff, like Wizzy's favorite cultivars/strains, his favorite munchies (this MAY surprise you) and how he would love to be buried with an endless supply of Fanta or Hawaiian Punch - THC-infused I presume of course, to stay #onbrand.

Yannick was helpful in describing for the listener, what the cannabis scene in Vancouver was like pre-federal legalization vs. post-legalization as well as what 'White labelling' means for cannabis producers.
In addition to owning a growing national edibles business, Yannick is also an active advisor member on the BIPOC Inclusion in Cannabis team of the Peoples Alliance of Cannabis in Canada (P.A.C.C.) and an avid ice hockey player.
