E14 - My Life As A Performance Psychologist With Daniel Dymond
In this week's episode, Ale, Jack and Benji welcome Daniel Dymond, Performance Psychologist. Daniel has worked in performance and sports psychology with elite athletes, organisations such as Golf Australia and the Adelaide Football Club (Australia Rules Football), and as Lead Psychologist for the Athlete Mental Health app Arete. The guys discussed many aspects of the psychology of refereeing, how to deal with pressure and recovering from mistakes on the field, along with recurring topics such as dealing with expectations.

In this week's episode, Ale, Jack and Benji welcome Christina Unkel, PRO and ex-FIFA referee, Attorney at law, Referee Analyst on CBS HQ, Mother and co-owner of a gym. Christina talked with them about balancing all her activities in her life, how being a referee helps her being an attorney and about her endeavour to educate the public about the Laws of The Game via her role as an analyst.

Football and Basketball seem to have nothing but the round ball in common. However, in this episode, the crew welcomes Bill Mildenhall, a legend of international basketball refereeing to find out how similar the roles of the officials are in both disciplines. Bill tells us amazing stories about his experience as an official and as a referee coach and manager at tournaments such as the Olympics, World Cups and domestic leagues. Along his amazing career, Bill had the pleasure to referee the Dream Team (USA), starting the one and only Michael Jordan, at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

In this episode Ale, Jack and Benji have a guest they know really well: Tom Frost, their former Performance Coach. A trip down memory lane for the trio, but also some great insights from Tom, who has extensive experience in performance and strength & conditioning coaching, having worked in PNG with the local Olympic Team, a professional UFC fighter, and many referees of all levels, from grassroots officials to FIFA referees.

In this episode of My Life On The Line, Ale, Jack & Benji welcomed Ben Crowe from Mojo Crowe. Ben worked with Nike for over 20 years and has been helping athletes achieving great results and being the best version of themselves. He has been coaching many Australian athletes, including the Women #1 Ranked tennis player Ash Barty, the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, and also coaches many CEOs across world, including some of the decision-makers at Facebook. However, Ben doesn't simply focus on helping his clients developing a performance mindset: he helps them unlocking unconditional love and self-worth, so they can accept they are and become better humans before better athletes or CEOs. Ben talked to us about how to use the power of self-acceptance and how referees can improve their performance and enjoy their games without extra pressure and unrealistic expectations.

What a special episode this was! Ale, Jack & Benji welcome a football legend: Derek Rae. Together with Derek the RefCoach crew approached refereeing from a different angle, the one of a commentator, only to find out of the many similarities that both roles have. Derek was an amazing guest and gave us so many interesting insights and stories from his illustrious career.

We had the pleasure and luck to welcome John Westbrooks, Sport Scientist at PRO (Professional Referees Organisation). John and we discussed how he and PRO keep their referees fit during the season and in pre-season, how they deal with flying, recovery and nutrition. We also discussed the mental aspects related to keeping your fitness up in times where life is getting in the way.
In this episode, we learned a lot about referees and training, not just from a physical perspective, but also from a mental point of view, both as a trainer or coach and as a referee.
