Ep 120. What's For Dinner? Meal Plan and Prep for Success PLS
"What's for dinner?".....the most common question heard in households around the country during the 'witching hour' (after school/work 4-6pm) most days :)

Think PLS - 'prep, list and schedule' or 'plan, list and shop', two frameworks or ways to think about meal planning and food prepping for the upcoming week.
Join us today to hear all about some key strategies to get healthy, delicious family-friendly foods on the table for dinner throughout the week.

Ep 113. Eat Well to Feel Better with Mindy Yoder, RD
Many women have a goal to lose weight.....and after deeper exploration and reflection to find what's driving their reasons for wanting to lose weight, they often discover that they just want to feel better in their own body, improve their energy, help their digestion to feel less bloated, and feel better overall.
Today, we have a conversation with dietitian, Mindy Yoder. Mindy is based in Buffalo NY, and through her private practice, helps women align their nutrition with their lifestyle and health goals. Together, they get creative to identify methods to increase the quality of their diet through simple strategies.
Many women are frustrated with diet culture or having to stick to a plan. Mindy demonstrates how customization of meal planning for the week to fit into a specific lifestyle and schedule is really the best way to plan for healthy eating.
Derived from a listener question, this episode will help many people in similar fast-paced, busy and hectic lifestyles to improve the quality of their diet, and help increase healthy behaviours.
We discuss the value of food rather than points, calories or any other restrictive diet tracking.
Check out the article on the blog "Eat Well To Feel Better"
Episode was based on a listener question:
“I am not great with meal planning or prepping for the week ahead and I end up just getting food delivered or going through drive though on my way home from work. Do you have some ideas to help with meals that are grab and go and is it possible to eat healthy while travelling (long commutes for work)?”

Ep 112. How to Stop Food Addiction with Dr. Vera Tarman
We know that humans can become addicted to drugs and alcohol, but can we actually become addicted to food?
Today, we interview Dr. Vera Tarman, the author of "Food Junkies - A Recovery from Food Addiction"
Dr. Tarman, is the medical director of Renascent, an addiction rehab centre in Toronto, and works with people struggling with a variety of substance addictions, including food.
Evidence is mounting for the ways in which the brain responds to hyperpalatable food substances, such as food products that are high in sugar, fat and/or salt. Research is showing that these substances can trigger a brain response and cascade similar to drug addiction. The food industry however, often creates food with the intention of having it be addictive.
We have always counselled people about learning to develop a positive relationship with food, but there may be a case of learning how to avoid certain food products that have these addictive food substances.
Tune in to today's conversation with Dr. Vera Tarman to hear all about this controversial topic.
Check out the blog article that Dr. Vera Tarman wrote "Food Addiction Symptoms"

She is author of Food Junkies: Recovery from Food Addiction, and is a cohost of the popular Food Junkies Podcast.

Ep 102. Cooking for the Stars with Chef John Desbiens
How does cooking on tour with rock stars relate to cooking in a home for elderly people with dementia?
Well, our guest, chef John Desbiens, tells us stories of his culinary origins, which have led him to become a sought-after chef maestro for rock stars, and eventually, a cooking master for residents in dementia care.
John's stories of cooking for over 150 different celebrities, including John Travolta, Meryl Streep, Lyle Lovett, James Blunt, Alice Cooper, and Tom Cochrane, all the way to Twisted Sister, will have you on the edge of your seat and help you understand the importance of feeding people in a nourishing way.
Once, a classically-trained, award-winning chef, who had an ego to match Gordon Ramsay, John recognized his unique role and was humbled by the presence of various personalities, and has come to realize that feeding people is a unique and sacred privilege.
Meals are a cherished time for people, who may be gathering for the preparation of a loved one's funeral, celebrating a child's soccer win, or ready to walk on stage and perform their set in front of thousands of fans, and hence, food means so much more than just fuel for the body.
John's caring and empathetic personality is a cherished bright star in the homestyle kitchen, where he customizes meals and snacks to match elderly residents' cultural roots and brings them back to earlier, warm memories of cooking with grandma. Food offers quality of life for people who may not know how to make tea and toast or remember a spouse's name or their former address. Familiar, comfort foods can bring back tastes of yesteryears and bygone times.
Some key lessons learned from talking with John are the importance of being patient, listening to people, and being flexible and resilient when it comes to creating magic in the kitchen.
Tune in to this fascinating interview with a one of a kind culinary phenomenon, chef John Desbiens.

Ep 100. Benefits of Superfoods
Welcome to our 100th weekly Monday episode!
Today, we thought it would be timely to discuss 'Superfoods', what they are, what makes them 'super' compared to other foods, and talk about the category and groupings of these specific foods that lead to their superstar status.
It's a trending new term that was doctored up by advertisers to help sell their products.
In general, there isn't a regulated, or medical term or definition for 'superfood', it was coined by advertisers to influence food trends and push sales of their new products.
The food industry grants the superfood label on nutrient-rich foods with an apparent capacity to positively affect health.
Though many foods could be described as super, it’s important to understand that there is no single food that holds the key to good health or disease prevention. Plus, you don't need to spend your hard-earned dollars on expensive food products or specific supplements (with health claims). The superfoods that we discuss are foods that your grandmother would recognize and are available to people anywhere and are accessible without having to get a second job just to afford them.
As the term “superfood” seems to be growing and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, it may be worth taking a closer look at some healthy options.
Superfoods are characterized as being nutritional powerhouses of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants.
The strong antioxidant capacity of some superfoods is associated with a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer and other inflammatory conditions
These superfoods may also be effective in treating various digestive and immune-related disorders when used alongside traditional medical therapies.
Tune in as Sandra quizzes Rob on his understanding of superfoods and dives deeper in this buffet of 'super' foods.
