Free Form Locs: My Natural Hair Journey

Free Form Locs: My Natural Hair Journey

In this episode, I explain why I decided to stop shampooing, conditioning, and "doing" my hair. Follow me on the gram to see the photos of hair past and present! As a youngster, my hair was always forced into braids by my grandmother and mother. "Beaty is pain," I was told after I told them it hurt to have my scalp yanked around with a comb. There is no pain in my beauty. Beauty is my natural state and I embrace that through my current hair style of 100% free form locs.

Steps to Spiritual Growth | Avoid Spiritual Bypass in Toxic Relationships

Steps to Spiritual Growth | Avoid Spiritual Bypass in Toxic Relationships

Question: How do I deal with toxic (platonic) relationships in the workplace without spiritual bypass?<br />
<br />
If you're taking steps to spiritual growth and you experience a situation, person, or manifestation that's less than ideal, it might be easy to simply ignore negative triggers. People on the spiritual path often feel like they can't experience negative emotions. This is not true. We call this spiritual Bypass, and it can directly hinder your spiritual growth journey.<br />
<br />
In this episode I discuss:<br />
<br />
What is Spiritual Bypass, Why it's important to avoid spiritual bypass when you're on a self-growth journey/ hoping to manifest your best life, How to know if you're Bypassing, A step-by-step process for resolving toxic (platonic) relationships, How negative/toxic situations can be used to enhance or guide your manifestation journey. Looking forward to your thoughts and "aha" moments!

Sarah Wu | The Village Witch of Envision Festival and Punta Mona Center

Sarah Wu | The Village Witch of Envision Festival and Punta Mona Center

As a child, Sarah Wu Spent a lot of time outside making friends with animals, trolls, and flowers. As an angry 90's art kid she naturally wanted to challenge her Catholic upbringing. She actually preferred the teachings and practices that honored feminine power as well as masculine. Because it's all about balance!<br />
<br />
It didn't take Sarah very long to realize she was indeed, a Witch.<br />
<br />
But not the witch you might think. She isn't out to steal your money, life, beauty or anything like that. Think more along the lines of Glinda the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz, but here to help along your wellness journey.<br />
<br />
Sarah is a wise herbal medicine woman residing in the Southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica at Punta Mona, a beachfront botanical collection and permaculture farm. At Punta Mona Center Sarah is the Director and Educational Curator.<br />
<br />
She is also one of the Co-Founders of Envision Festival, a celebration dedicated to awakening our human potential. The festival takes place in the next town over from where I'm currently living in Costa Rica so I was very excited to chat with Sarah about the intention and operation behind the festival.<br />
<br />
Sarah and I also discuss her tough journey with in-vitro fertilization. If you're considering in-vitro for your family, you're going to want to listen to Sarah's advice and personal experience.<br />
<br />
We talk all about the placebo effect in healing practices, walking the self-healing path as a healer, the murder of innocent women during the witch trials, exploitation of plants for medicine, lessons from off-grid living, and practicing non-attachment as a retreat facilitator.<br />
<br />
For those of you plant loving, meditating, wandering collections of light and love out there who want to hear from The Village Witch herself, you're in the right place!<br />
<br />
I also have a BIG announcement to share at the end of this episode so be sure to stick around until the very end! If you do, YOU get to be a part of the future of Wander Well Podcast!

<br />
As all skilled manifesters know, we never get put through hell in vain. Because of her challenges, Rae is now equipped with the information and motivation to empower other women going through similar situations.<br />
<br />
Learn how Rae turned lemons into sunshine, setbacks into orgasms, and fear into purpose.<br />
<br />
Rae now has a private support group for women diagnosed with HSV and Herpes. The community URL is kept private. You can learn more about Rae and her HSV + Herpes Support Group on Instagram

I spent more time perfecting this episode than I ever have. This season I'm going to be more of a narrator than an interviewer. I want you all to get the BEST quality podcast from me and I believe this is that. Looking forward to your feedback!

In the book, the King gives Santiago some stones that help him identify when something is a good or bad omen. He makes a point of learning to figure it out himself, without the stones. How can you do that too? Listen to find out!

We are coming to the end of season 1 and I want to know what you loved and hated so far?

I've been somewhat all over the place. I've told you about my background, why I wanted to start a business, why I wanted to study Traditional Chinese Medicine, why I decided to move to Costa Rica instead, what got me re-energized about my spiritual journey, and what other women are doing to manifest the life of their daydreams.

Do you want to hear from Tucker?

Do you want to hear more about manifesting?

Who should I interview for next season?

How do you like the meditations?

I greatly admire Hannah Van and everything she stands for. This woman is out to change the health space by bringing her encouraging light to her clients and to the world. She wants people to love their body first and then find balance and health with the desire to take care of it.<br />

<br />
-How Hannah pays the bills<br />
<br />
-Why we both quit our jobs to fully invest in our passion projects<br />
<br />
-Should you implement lifestyle changes all at once?<br />
<br />
-Learning to love working out again<br />
<br />
-Hannah’s exercise that will help you prioritize and balance your priorities<br />
<br />
-Her favorite places to travel<br />
<br />
-Where she goes to be her most raw and organic self<br />
<br />
-Is it Te-va or Tee-Va?<br />
<br />

6.3 Photography As An Excuse to Travel, Eating Like You Love Yourself, and Learning to Say “No” with Erin Wilbanks

6.3 Photography As An Excuse to Travel, Eating Like You Love Yourself, and Learning to Say “No” with Erin Wilbanks

One of her friends who identified her as a true Wander Woman, so I was excited to hear her story. I always enjoy talking to yogis who like to travel because they have such worldly and thoughtful insights to share. Erin proved me right, yet again.<br />
<br />
Erin is a Professor of Audiology (the study of sound) and started photography in high school. She mainly taught herself, playing with lighting and taking pictures of "weird things" around her room. When Instagram blew up she started focusing on landscapes but it has remained a side gig/passion project for her. She teaches yoga, practices yoga, and has a kind and caring spirit that's abundantly clear throughout our conversation.<br />
<br />
We discussed: <br />
1. Why she quit her job to travel last year<br />
2. How she manages the expectations of her parents and society<br />
3. Why she encourages young adults to travel more<br />
4. How she practices self-care by listening to her daily needs<br />
5. Where she goes to find calm and relaxation<br />
6. Excuses we hear as yoga instructors and why they are BS<br />
7. The importance of saying "no" to people or plans that don't serve you<br />
8. How to evaluate your next move, are you doing it for you, ego, or someone else?<br />
9. The top places she thinks all Wander Women should visit<br />
<br />
After the interview I'll discuss:<br />
1. The importance of eating like you love yourself including my own battle with disordered eating.<br />
2. Why I stopped eating sugar (it's more expensive than you think)<br />
3. Why I am NOT going to school to study Traditional Chinese Medicine; I want to elaborate on Yesterday's Big Announcement about moving to Costa Rica<br />

5.3 Follow Falon | Body Image and Eating Habits, No Ring, No Babies, No Problem + 2 Scary Ocean Travel Stories

Falon's radiant smile leaped off my screen when I first saw her Instagram. She takes beautiful pictures in all sorts of tropical locations, and I wanted to know more about her story. She says she is socially awkward but she is also a very kind and comforting soul. <br />
<br />
In this podcast we discuss:<br />
<br />
Her calling: to bring a message to young people "It's okay to not have it all figured out"<br />
Counseling immigrant and refugee families and children<br />
Body image and how she has beat the system of higher and higher standards<br />
What to focus on when you're eating<br />
Living life based on your own wants and needs, not expectations others have for you<br />
Her spontaneous travels<br />
Resources she uses to travel cheap!<br />

5.2 Digital Marketing Introduction + What to Avoid

I am excited to share a really special story with you all about my grandmother, a kind and hardworking woman who I never knew. At the end of the story, I ask you to email me if you see aspects of your loved ones in yourself. My email is katie@wanderwellpodcast.com. Looking forward to hearing from you!<br />
<br />
The questions I answer in this podcast are as follows:<br />

What is the Digital Marketing Institute and why did I pay $2,000 for their courses?<br />
What is SEO?<br />
Get excited, we are starting to get into the nitty-gritty of online business ownership! If you are serious about marketing your goods/services online this podcast is a must. I am going to continue to build off this discussion in future episodes.

4.2 Starting an E-Commerce Business + Tips for New Entrepreneurs

I discussed some frustrations I've had recently with how I'm recording the podcast. I also share some insecurities that still linger about and how I redirect my thinking to slide past them. I also ended up deciding to explore a new structure of podcast. If you hate it, be sure to let me know. Instead of me just straight up talking to the mic, which I'm starting to find quite boring, I'm going to interview myself. I wrote down some questions about starting an E-Commerce business. Here are the questions I asked myself and answered in today's episode:<br />
<br />
Question 1: What is E-commerce?<br />
<br />
Question 2: What is Shopify, Why is it the best e-commerce platform? <br />
<br />
Question 3: What was my 1st product? Why? What changed? <br />
<br />
Question 4: Why Travel Journals? <br />
<br />
Question 5: What is Dropshipping?<br />
<br />
Question 6: Tips for beginning entrepreneurs(?)<br />
<br />
Enjoy!

2.2 Tell All Tuesday | My First Business Idea, Mini-Retirements, and Financial Freedom

2.2 Tell All Tuesday | My First Business Idea, Mini-Retirements, and Financial Freedom

In this podcast, I discuss a common objection to my favorite movie The Secret. I recently was speaking with a friend and he mentioned that he doesn’t like that the messaging revolves around financial success and material things. I address this objection in the podcast because I agree…money is NOT everything!
I also talk about where I learned about Mini-Retirements and how you can start planning for your own mini-retirement.
I talk about my partner, Tucker, and his relationship with money. I explain that his attittude towards money influenced my decision to start a business.
I later spoke to him about this topic and I would like to share, in his own words, how he would describe his financial choices. In the opening episode, I shared that I never want to embarrass my friends or family. It’s important that you hear my perspective, but I’d like for you to hear theirs as well.
“I might dispute that I’m just now establishing myself as a financially reliable person…I just made a large investment in my education and my immediate priority upon graduating wasn’t to get the highest paying job available so that I could pay back debt. Instead, it was to work for myself and seek experiences over savings. I’ve certainly learned some lessons the hard way throughout the last 5 years they’ve minimally contributed to my overall debt, but they’ve also positioned me to be successful with this next venture”
-Tucker Ballister
You can check out the venture he’s referring to HERE.
I also talk about the music festival where I first learned about ecommerce and the time I decided to wanted to work online.

Single-Mom and Freelance Photographer Corinne Rice @_NomadicMom

Corinne and I had a fantastic conversation. She told me about how she and Atlas got started with their world wanderings and what their plans are for the future.<br />
A bit of background on Corinne. She tried community college, hated it, and left after two weeks. She became a celebrity raw food chef but was working a ton, and wanted to spend more time with her son, Atlas, and travel the world. She booked a ticket to Mexico and went WOOFing with Atlas. Corinne then shifted gears and became a self-taught travel photographer, working with AirBnBs, hotels, and attractions. <br />
