Feelgood SaturdayMar 02, 2019
Pride! In the name of Basildon
Feelgood Saturday this week was all about being proud of who you are and where you've come from. I chatted to friend of the show - Jake Hunter - about his efforts to bring Pride to Basildon this September.
Plus Entertainment News and loads more!
Sandstorm
This week's Feelgood Saturday featured a spot of bother for a French couple with a poor excuse as well as Entertainment News and much more!
The Interrupting Starfish
On this week's show we celebrated International Tell A Joke day with some absolute corkers; talked about an app that could save your life; checked up on the Entertainment News, including the return of a surprising US metal band to the top of the album charts and tested our brains with a Headliner. All in a Saturday morning's work...
Ere... is there a muscle man round ere?
On this week's Feelgood Saturday we talked about my semi-secret activities of the previous week, checked in on the world of celebrity with the Entertainment News and celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' Abbey Road crossing with two of my favourite songs from that album.
Don't Cry For Me Feelgood Saturday
On this week's show, I met Sammi, John and Steph from CAODS (Chelmsford Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society) who were raring to go with their latest production - EVITA, on in September at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford.
Listen back to hear from them.
What's wrong with the metric system?
This week's Feelgood Saturday contained - a lament about Jacob Rees-Mogg, a rant about what people should not wear on public transport in hot weather, and a viticultural Headliner!
One giant leap for Feelgood Saturday
Listen back to this week's show to hear:
- The latest British legend who's writing a musical
- A fun game to play if you have access to someone's Spotify account
- My views on the trailer for the new Cats movie
And... an out-of-this-world HEADLINER!
Get as involved as you like, really
This week's #FeelgoodSaturday was a blast! We found out what connects Bowie and Barbie, celebrated the arrogance of the 1 in 8 men who think they could beat Serena Williams at tennis and lamented the fact that the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special has started filming... NOT in Billericay!
You're one of my kind
On this week's #FeelgoodSaturday we had a welcome return for Headliner, plus the usual Entertainment News, local events and standard Saturday morning shenanigans.
Plus we celebrate the Pride, the Lionesses and the Beatles!
BOS(SY)
It was jazz hands-arama in the Phoenix FM studio this week when friend of the show, Jake Hunter, brought in not one, but two of the extremely talented groups he's involved in.
First up were Jess and Jamie from BOSSY - the Brentwood-based Youth Theatre Group who have talent to spare! They're doing Legally Blonde for their next venture in November, at the Brentwood Theatre.
Then came Anita and Caroline from Benfleet Operatic Society - who's production of Fiddler on the Roof is a contrast to the froth and energy of Legally Blonde, but no less entertaining...
All this plus a little bit of Entertainment News, an update on my #BringithometoBillericay Gavin and Stacey campaign, and LOADS of great music.
More than just bluegrass and banjos
This week we explore Essex's very own country music festival - Dixie Fields - coming to Chelmsford from 12th to 14th July. Georgie Thorogood, one of the creators of Dixie Fields, shares her pick of the line-up, what she's most looking forward to and how she's hoping to bring a little Nashville to CM1!
Also on #FeelgoodSaturday today - I launched my bid to get Billericay its rightful starring role on a Christmas telly special! I need your help with that one so listen and get involved! Plus we found out how much money those skintight trousers Sandy wore in Grease are due to go for at auction later this year (it's a lot!).
All that, plus loads of great music, as shown by my playlist, below:
Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing
Kylie Minogue - New York City
Taylor Swift - You Need to Calm Down
Beyonce - Run the World (Girls) [Single Version]
Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
Mark Ronson ft. Lykke Li - Late Night Feelings (Jax Jones Midnight Snack Radio Edit)

Phil Collins - Sussudio
a-Ha - Take On Me
Queen - Hammer To Fall
Sister Sledge - Lost In Music
Ward Thomas - Carry You Home
Holloway Road - Get the Girl
Lauren Alaina - Road Less Traveled
Prince - When Doves Cry
We could have been anything that we wanted to be...
On this week's #FeelgoodSaturday I was cast back to my primary school days, to a simpler time, where the highlight of my year was playing one of the inept cops in our production of Bugsy Malone! I had the weighty responsibility of filling the fake splurge gun with talcum powder (we couldn't use actual splurge for obvious reasons). Talcum powder proved not much better, as if you use it in enough volume it compacts to form a pretty slippery surface. Who knew!?
Anyway, no such problem should affect this week's guests, Jess and Suzanne from Shenfield Operatic Society, AKA Tallulah and Laughing Girl, in their production of Bugsy. They've got proper approved splurge.
They're on from Wednesday 26 to Saturday 29th June at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch. Tickets are here: www.queens-theatre.co.uk
Witches and hose...
Feelgood Saturday this week was a riot of energy, sunshine and facts about Donald Trump's plane. We also learnt who'll be playing the next Batman, what was everybody's favourite colour and played some great requests from listeners with awesome taste in music!
I was joined for the second hour by some of the cast and crew from Early Doors Production's latest offering: The Crucible. They tantalised us with talk of what to expect when they bring Arthur Miller's play, based on the Salem witch trials in 17th century America, to The Brentwood Theatre.
It's on at The Brentwood Theatre from 13th - 15th June, from 8pm. You can get your tickets by calling the Box Office on 01277 563678 or online at https://brentwood-theatre.co.uk/event/the-crucible/2019-06-13/
We also heard some cracking music, as shown by the playlist below:

If you can't laugh at yourself...
After a break last week, I was back and raring to go for another #FeelgoodSaturday. We had Entertainment News, including the latest Sonic movie controversy, a little autopsy of last week's Eurovision, my travel tips for New York and a studious headliner.
I can't believe I'm doing this!
Today's #FeelgoodSaturday was an absolute riot of endorphins. A sporting Headliner, a trip to the Mediterranean to see what one country has in store for Eurovision, two separate celebrity lawsuits in the Entertainment News, and a huge slice of great music.
Star Wars Day
Today's show took place on 4th May - otherwise known as Star Wars Day. We didn't overdo it though - there was a bit of Star Wars news, but then we moved on to other things, including a super-Headliner, the Entertainment News, another Eurovision sneak peek, courtesy of an EDM master and two hours of genuinely exciting music.
Skateboarding with an unplugged guitar
Today's Feelgood Saturday dove into the topics of the big five Eurovision countries, and why they get a free pass to the final; the latest reason that Ed Sheeran's neighbours are a bit peeved; the very natural single rivalling Taylor Swift for number one AND some good news for fans of renewable energy (in the form of a Headliner).
Never too late for love
This week's Feelgood Saturday happened to take place during one of the warmest Easters on record, so there was enough summer music to melt your Easter eggs!
We also had a disruptive Headliner, the usual check-in on the Entertainment news, a little sneak peek at Sweden's offering for this year's Eurovision and LOADS MORE!
My playlist is below:
Shanks & Bigfoot - Sweet Like Chocolate
Dawn Penn - No, No, No (You Don't Love Me)
MK & Jonas Blue & Becky Hill - Back & Forth
Bon Jovi - You Give Love A Bad Name
Simply Red - (Money's Too Tight) To Mention
Beyonce - Love On Top (Homecoming Live)
Rachel Stevens - Some Girls
George Michael - Too Funky
Beatles - Paperback Writer
Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
Diana Ross - Upside Down
Crowded House - Weather With You
John Lundvik - Too Late For Love (Eurovision 2019)
Free - All Right Now
Cheryl - Call My Name
Elton John - Rocket Man (I think it's going to be a long, long time)
Steps - Summer of Love
Shaggy - In the Summertime
Earth, Wind & Fire - September
Messier 87
Today's Feelgood Saturday had a distinctly televisual theme... We talked about the Eurovision song contest, whether Game of Thrones does have the greatest TV theme tune ever, and Kim Kardashian's latest venture...
We also squeezed in an out-of-this-world headliner, Entertainment News and a very varied playlist.
Channing Tatum!
On the agenda for Feelgood Saturday this week were a very-middle class tribute to Nirvana, Entertainment News, a fiscal Headliner and the realisation that if Jessie J is headlining the Evoke festival at the Brentwood Centre - CHANNING TATUM MIGHT JOIN HER!!!
Reasons to be cheerful!
On this week's show we celebrate International Happiness Day by sharing reasons to be cheerful. There's also a very cute Headliner, some Entertainment News and a lot of music!
HELLOOOOOO
On Feelgood Saturday this week we had all the usual fun stuff - Entertainment News, including a new canine string to Olly Murs' bow; and my ever-challenging music, news quiz - Headliner. This week's one was particularly taxing as it was to do with maths!
Also - loads of great, upbeat music designed to kickstart your Saturday lunchtime.
Celebrating International Women's Day 2019
Better late than never, on this week's Feelgood Saturday we celebrated International Women's Day, with two hours of music by female singers and writers.
And there were some absolute classics in there...
Storm Freya
Feelgood Saturday on Phoenix FM. Broadcast live 10 - 12 GMT every Saturday morning on Phoenix FM - local radio for Brentwood and Billericay.
Freak Show
Feelgood Saturday this week got a bit freaky, with a visit from our friends at Early Doors Productions. Jay and Amy were in to talk about their next venture, an original musical based on a song Jay wrote years ago!
We hear a sample of the soundtrack, as well as a teaser from the show itself. Plus along the way we talk Oscars, Netflix and pole dancing!
Also on the show, the Entertainment News, loads of great music and a lot of chat too!
