The April instalment of the National Drama Association of Trinidad and Tobago’s (NDATT) Playwrights Workshop Trinbago (PWT) Monthly Readers Theatre Series (MRTS), held the first Wednesday of every month, will take place online in light of the precautionary measures implemented as a result of the covid19 pandemic.
The theme of the session, led by renowned playwright Tony Hall, is Writing A Short Play and will feature the reading of two short plays; One On One by Makesi Algernon and Cold Drinks On This Side co-written by Safaa and Narad Mahabir.
Makesi Algernon has been writing animation storyboards, game projects and similar projects for the last seven years. One On One is his first theatre script. Algernon said the play was one of the first scripts he developed, which explores an idea he had about creation. He describes the play as a simple conversation between a loyal worker and his boss.
The second offering, Cold Drinks On This Side, is a collaborative effort by playwrights Safaa and Narad written during the PWT's Play Development Workshop 2018. This six session playwriting workshop encouraged participants to complete a short play by the end of the sixth session.
In the play, two friends in the doubles business receive an unwelcome warning. Will they continue wrapping doubles or wrap up shop?
