This 1 of 3 podcast we recorded down in Youth Conference, we had the lads in From Glencairn and Mountainhill talking about their experience. Always the best of laughs with this crew.

For this episode we have Andy, Sam and Chloe as they talk us through their amazing journeys in youth work, how they got involved, what or who inspired them and they share their views on some youth work practice.

Some lovely insights from everyone, some laughs and great memories shared.

Also worth listening just for Sam as he shares his journey through a life altering event that led him to being involved in youth work and to where he is now !

This episode was something a bit different from the usual, we had a lovely chat with Maeve and Stephen about playwork, the importance of being able to play in the lives of young people, what we did for play when we were growing up and how the Youth @ Play program has really enhanced the youth work being delivered in our youth centres.

For our second episode of Journeys in Youth Work we have 3 wise men from the east of the city, the land of cranes, the Oval and the Ice Bowl.  David from Cregagh YC, Paul from the Doyle and James from Ardcarnet Youth Centre.  Many years of experience and stories to share, which brings a lovely insight into how youth work has evolved and where we seem to be heading. 

This episode finds Sonic Youth Cast at a young mens conference which was run by North Belfast Area Project.  The conference covered a range of topics relating to young men, health, employment, training, mental health and various opportunities from the guests at the conference. 

One of the main themes was around mental health and we set the podcast equipment up, the groups of young men came in to record 10-15 mins on their opinions around mental health, give some good advice to others and discuss what it is like being a young man living in Belfast. 

Some interesting points came through, as always the subtext and what is often below the surface is as telling as the words.  We got the sense that while its still difficult to discuss mental health it is however improving with time.  

For the first episode of journeys in youth work, we have Jeannine who is leader in charge of Mountcollyer Youth Centre, Sarah Louise who is an area worker in north Belfast and Justine who is a senior youth worker again in north Belfast. 

We tried to keep it as youth work as possible, some really nice reflections on their journey, who inspired them, important moments and good memories that have brought them to the point they are at in their careers in youth work.

In this podcast we have a few of the group discussing the youth leadership program YWIC, how they got involved and what its all about ! 

This podcast was recorded in 2019 with a group of young people from North Belfast who had just completed building a positive mental health garden.
