Gabriela Egito is a Brazilian filmmaker and journalist based in Los Angeles. Three of the films she wrote and directed won coast to coast across America.<br />

Her short film Stuffed won six awards and three nominations, including Best Foreign Short at the Las Vegas Film Festival. Synergy won the Platinum Remi Award at WorldFest Houston and the Merit Award at the Awareness Film Festival (LA). Taken for Granted won the Special Jury Remi Award in Houston and was nominated Best Foreign Project at Central Florida Film Festival.<br />

Craig Caton has worked in visual effects, special effect, makeup, animation, but it perhaps best known as a master puppeteer. His work includes films like Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, Batman Returns, Tremors, Predator, Disney’s Tangled, Disney’s Meet the Robinsons, Apollo 13, and Edward Scissorhands. Today he’s in the studio with some of his most famous props to talk about how he creates these puppets.<br />

New York Film Academy alumnus Denise Meyers is the only writer in the six year history of the Athena Film Festival to have two screenplays make it to the finals; LUCKY 13, an Athena Finalist, is about the first American women to fly military aircraft in wartime Lucky 13 is one of three winners of the 2017 Atlanta Film Festival screenplay competition. Meyers film, RIDE THE WIND: The Bessie<br />
Stringfield Story is about the only African American woman to serve as a motorcycle dispatch rider in World War Two was an Athena List winner. Robin Wright directed her film, The Dark of Night, which stars Sam Rockwell and premired at the Cannes Film Festival.<br />

Film critic Peter Rainer is back this week to help us wrap up Pride Month with one of the earliest queer representation in cinema Some Like it Hot. Starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marilyn Monroe and directed by Billy Wilder, Some Like it Hot killed the Hayes Code and is listed in the top 100 films of all time by AFI. Mason Richards has acted on Broadway, he’s directed several films including a short that is currently playing at the Liminal Space Exhibit at the Caribbean Cultural Center in Harlem. Welcome to the New York Film Academy Hour. If this is your first time joining us we’d like to introduce you to Peter Rainer one of the most prolific and exquisite reviewers of cinema alive today. His work has appeared in the LA Times and New York magazine and he currently is film critic for The Christian Science Monitor and NPRs Film Week. His latest book is the essay collection Rainer on Film: Thirty Years of Film Writing in a Turbulent and Transformative Era.<br />

Today, Mr. Rainer joins us, so that he may educate us on one of the greatest actors ever committed to celluloid. A titan of the stage, Marlon Brando was a revelation. Not just a beast of an actor, but an early and loud voice against racism and oppression within the Hollywood system.<br />

Today Rainer will walk us through some of the greatest moments in Brando’s career including The Wild One, A Street Car Named Desire, On the Waterfront, Last Tango in Paris, and Reflections in a Golden Eye.<br />

She won a 2013 L.A. Area Emmy for her work on the series television and web series Your Turn To Care which was also the winner of a 2013 Gracie Award. Ms. Multer- Wellin has produced two films for the acclaimed PBS documentary series Independent Lens. Taking The Heat: The First Women Firefighters of New York City, a documentary narrated by Susan Sarandon. The second film, Paul Conrad: Drawing Fire was also selected for the first digital release of Independent Lens films. She is a former Chair of the Documentary/Reality Committee of the Producer’s Guild of America.<br />
