The Importance of Supplier Diversity and Sustainability with Ashley Campbell

The Importance of Supplier Diversity and Sustainability with Ashley Campbell

LLC host Nicole Glenn sits down with Ashley Campbell, Supplier Diversity and Sustainability Manager at TE Connectivity, for an interesting discussion about building sustainable supplier networks. Ashley brings a passion to her work in delivering her sustainability message, a lot in part due to her passion for nature. Everyone in the supply chain is interconnected and we all must work together to make real change.

Ashley grew up in rural farmland outside of Gainesville, FL spending her days barefoot and riding on horses while also helping around the farm. Her passion for nature and all living things started while she was young, and she credits the smells and sounds of a cooling North Central Florida evening for planting that seed. Ashley pursued a love of gardening and horticulture from a young age that she still enjoys.

Being a Supplier Diversity and Sustainability manager feels right to Ashley based on her life experiences and exposures, and personal belief system. "I want to know at the end of the day that I made a difference for the planet and ALL of the species that live on it, no matter how small. I want the changes that I make to outlive my memory and I do this to honor my children and their children’s children."

The LLC ladies come together for a discussion on why we all need to take time to recharge! Nicole Glenn, Kristy Knichel, Nathalie Mathis and Charlie Saffro dive deep into the importance of taking time off to avoid burnout and discuss strategies to work on making the workplace a more flexible environment for everyone. Is the allure of making more money by letting your company buy back your PTO a good thing or bad thing? Is overworking and being available all the time simply an American cultural trait and can we break this? Do sabbaticals really help employees reset themselves or are they worried their company will just learn to work without them while they're off? This great conversation tackles so much in such a short time and truly should be a topic of major importance at ALL businesses.

Evolving Gender Roles - LLC Panel Discussion

Evolving Gender Roles - LLC Panel Discussion

Liz Wayne, Sharon Siar and Charlie Saffro take a deep dive into how gender roles have been evolving both at home and in the professional world. The ladies start off this panel discussion with a market update on recruiting in logistics, helping new entrants into the brokerage world, and provide information about fuel volatility, spot rates, capacity and more! "The only thing that stays constant in logistics is change."

The main topic of this episode is about the evolution of gender roles and how we can support one another through this massive societal transition that has been happening over the past 50 years. Women have obviously made huge advancements in the workplace, but there is still more that can be done. Are women carrying too much of the burden? We think so. Human nature makes us default to women for certain tasks, like planning an office birthday party. In order to remedy burnout and to prevent bitterness or tension, communication is KEY. And we have to rethink our standards: "Do we want help or do we not want help?"

There are "working moms" but why aren't their "working dads"? The narrative needs to change.

Why do incompetent men become leaders and what can we do about it?

Why do incompetent men become leaders and what can we do about it?

Nicole Glenn and Nathalie Mathis host Bill Paul and dissect why so many incompetent males become leaders and what we can do about it. We realize that male leaders are not one size fits all, but we definitely get candid about society, psychology, charisma, competence, and the confidence that contributes to this phenomenon. In our discussion, Bill Paul brought up the topic of soft skills and how women outranked men in almost every soft skill category. This is not to say that men can't have these skills or that all women will have these skills. But it's important to account for these skillsets as they can be necessary for leadership roles to build trust, growth, and productive work culture. At the end of the day, it should be about hiring the best person for the job and making sure as a hiring leadership, you ask yourself, "Are they competent, or am I swayed by their confidence?"
