Home Alone (1990)
We've arrived at Christmas Eve, and we've arrived at the ultimate destination for this Rewind miniseries, 1990's Home Alone. This is the beginning of the best Christmas movie franchise in existence, even if there are only a small handful of good movies in the bunch.
We tried to do this great movie justice, and along the way we tangent into The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Ren & Stimpy, Don Henley and growing up in the hood.
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
Kevin McCallister has been separated from his family for the second year in a row (but really, the movies came out 2 years apart). This time Kevin winds up in a magical land beyond the seven levels of the candy cane forest, past the castle of the abominable snowman, past the sea of swirly, twirly gumdrops and through the Lincoln Tunnel: New York City!
Fortunately Kevin is equipped with a perfect device for a lil stinker, a Talkboy with a voice changer. And of course, because he's the eternally resourceful Kevin McCallister, he is able to use this device to book a suite at the world-renowned Plaza Hotel, New York's most exciting hotel experience. He's also able to record hard evidence on the crimes of the escaped convicts, Harry and Marv, now calling themselves The Sticky Bandits.
This ep is packed with lots of fun 1992 talk, and we get into Disney's The Jungle Book, getting a Sega Genesis for Christmas, hockey, school cafeteria lunches, Sunkist vs. Fanta Orange soda, finding out the truth about the Big Guy in Red, and lots more!
Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.

Home Alone: The Bad Sequels (3-5)
We couldn't picture watching all 3 of these bad Home Alone sequels, and we couldn't imagine making you listen to 3 episodes worth of that. So we each watched one of them, and sum them up for you in our own way in this one compact ep. You don't have to watch these movies, unless you're some sort of masochist who hates spoilers for irrelevant movies.
Mike watched 2012's Home Alone: The Holiday Heist. It has a haunted house/mobster subplot, a hidden speakeasy, and made Mike wanna drink.
Jake watched what legitimately sounds like the worst idea for a Home Alone movie ever, with 2002's Home Alone 4.
Adam watched 1997's Home Alone 3, and, though I forgot to mention it in the episode, one of the biggest letdowns was that the kid never used the yellow Sega Game Gear he had hanging from his utility belt on the movie poster. False advertising. Deal Breaker. Game over.
We also tangent about sleeping on the floor, cold showers, and The Office.

Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
Welcome to December, welcome to our new Rewind miniseries! We are covering the Home Alone franchise of Christmas movies, as only we do: in reverse! This is 199? Presents Home Alone Rewind.
In this, the first ep of the series, we are discussing 2021's direct-to-streaming-on-Disney-Plus "legacy sequel," Home Sweet Home Alone.
Ellie Kemper and Rob DeLaney are trying to get their hands on a $200,000 ugly little boy to sell to an old lady to save their house. Of course, they know they're talking about a porcelain doll, but the kid, Max, thinks they want to kidnap him. So he creates a plan to defend himself and his McMansion.

Halloween Ends (2022)
Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
We are getting close to the Ends here, folks! Tonight we discussed Halloween II, which came out 3 years after Halloween, but picked up on the exact same Halloween night, of better or for worse.
More kills, more blood, more mayhem and way more hospitals, come listen to more of our discussion about Michael and Loomis raging through Haddonfield!

Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
This week, we leave Michael Myers behind to discuss Halloween III. Audiences at the time weren't properly prepared for a "Halloween" movie without Michael Myers, and it got a terrible reputation. Time has been kind to it though, and taken for what it is, it is finding its audience. Its definitely a fun one to watch with friends at a Halloween party!
The original idea for an anthology series of unrelated Halloween films is a free idea that’s just sitting out there. We still think this needs to happen!

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Sure Michael is back, but there’s no Laurie. There’s no involvement from John Carpenter. No JLC. But set your worries aside! This is still a pretty great Halloween movie! Michael is revealed to have survived the events of Halloween 1 & 2, and has been catatonic in a mental hospital for the intervening 10 years. And, fools that they are, they are transferring him somewhere else on the day before Halloween. Donald Pleasance is back as Loomis and he is trying to protect Laurie’s recently orphaned daughter, Jamie, from her maniacal murder Uncle Michael.

Halloween 5: the Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Jamie Lloyd is back, and this time she’s played by Danielle Harris, a great actress. But she’s a mute for the first half of the movie. And they do nothing with and then kill off her “sister,” Rachel, who we will get to know better next week in Halloween 4. Rachel’s friend Tina leads a group of crazy Haddonfield teens looking to get their Hallofreek on. Loomis rages around town scaring more people than The Shape himself. Production problems and a tight budget might just doom this one! Judge for yourself, but be reasonable!
I’m never reasonable if I can help it!!

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Theatrical Cut, Producer's Cut, whatever. Halloween 6 has PROBLEMS. But at least the mask looks good in this one. And there are some great kills. However, you have to have some interest in the power of Runes to influence evil to truly enjoy The Curse of Michael Myers. Paul Rudd stars in this one, though, and it was his first movie!
So listen as we discuss the film that wraps up the Jamie Lloyd trilogy, despite recasting her with a complete zero, and totally ruining the character's life.

Halloween H20 Twenty Years Later (1998)
You may not know it from listening to our podcast, since she's appeared in every movie we've covered so far, but H20 was Jamie Lee Curtis' return to the franchise after 17 years. With the resurrection of Laurie Strode, H20 became the first—but not the last—soft reboot in the franchise, discarding Halloween 4-6. This movie has its issues (what is up with that MASK?!), but overall, it is a scary and fun slasher movie that doesn't go over-the-top. There are gratuitous jump scares along the way, but the final showdown between Laurie and Michael Myers is worth the watch!

Halloween Resurrection (2002)
Just how easy is it to start a gas-powered chainsaw you've never operated before?? Why does Busta Rhymes yelling at Michael Myers like he's his boss not get him murder-stabbed? How did Tyra Banks die? Why did they retcon the ending of H20?
Halloween Resurrection raises a lot of questions! Let's try to answer one or 2, at least.

Halloween Kills (2021)
Knowing our love for (and fear of) all things Michael Myers, friend of the podcast, Jake, told us he had an idea: to cover all of the Halloween films*, but in reverse. We loved the idea of exploring new territory, and the opportunity to break out of the 90s. As this was Jake's brainchild, it's only fitting to invite him along for the ride. Join us as we go from the recent to the original John Carpenter classic, all leading up to October 31st. We're calling it Halloween Rewind, and we're excited to talk about these films in our own backwards way!
Tonight we start with what is currently the most recent film in the franchise, 2021's Halloween Kills. Michael gets his hands bloodier than ever before as he continues his 2018 rampage through Haddonfield. This has got to be the longest Halloween night ever.
How does this film fit into the timeline? How does Michael's mask look? What's on the soundtrack? How many kills does Michael rack up? Does evil die tonight? These are the questions we'll try to answer every episode.

Ep. 2.13: 90s Supergroups ft. Traveling Wilburys, Slash's Snakepit, Me Frist & the Gimme Gimmes, A Perfect Circle, Damn Yankees, the Vaughan Brothers & more!
su·per·group
/ˈso͞opərˌɡro͞op/
noun
- an exceptionally successful rock group or one formed by musicians already famous from playing in other groups.
Somehow talking about supergroups from the 1990s led us to finish the show with way too much opera. This is not an apology.
Artists featured include: Golden Smog, Down, Homie, Highwaymen, Westside Connection, The Three Tenors, Neurotic Outsiders, Cork, Traveling Wilburys, Slash's Snakepit, Me Frist & the Gimme Gimmes, A Perfect Circle, Damn Yankees, the Vaughan Brothers and many more!
Associated acts from those groups include: NOFX, Ice Cube, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Soul Asylum, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, The Jayhawks, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Foo Fighters, Scream, Nirvana, Weezer, CAKE, Soul Coughing, TOOL, Smashing Pumpkins, Waylon Jennings, Ted Nugent, Luciano Pavarotti, Jimmie Vaughan, Guns n Roses, Gin Blossoms, Kris Kristofferson, Mel Tillis, Jerry Reed, Styx, Night Ranger

Ep. 2.12: Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
How do Billy Corgan and Butch Vig achieve balance and harmony when this album is, at one moment, monstrous chaotic warfare, and, at the next, a warm evening at a luxurious spa? We attempt to answer that question as we hear Disarm, Cherub Rock, Today, Soma, Spaceboy, Geek USA, and all of the stellar tracks on this seminal sophomore release.
Life’s a bummer when you’re a hummer.
Ep. 2.11: The Angus Soundtrack ft. Green Day, Weezer, Goo Goo Dolls, Ash, Smoking Popes, Love Spit Love, The Muffs & Dance Hall Crashers
We recently watched the highly underrated 1995 teen comedy, Angus! The soundtrack is among the best of the 90s alt-rock soundtracks, featuring Ash, the Smoking Popes, The Riverdales, Dance Hall Crashers, Love Spit Love, Pansy Division, Goo Goo Dolls, Weezer & Green Day!

It's been a long quarantine, but we're back! We're social distancing, and we're ready to listen to some more 90's alternative! What better way to get into the American holiday spirit of Independence Day is there than listening to Great Britain's finest, Oasis? Typing this just now, I realized that we got through an entire 2 hour episode on these lads with not a single mention of Blur. Good for us!
Anyway, Mike and Adam will take you through Oasis entire discography, and by the end, you will have a better understanding of their music, cultural impact, and snide cheekiness!

When is the last time you played Candy Land? For your hosts, the answer to that question is last night until past 2 a.m. Crazy stuff, sure, but they did it for you. But, hey, we have a sweet twist! Every colored square that we land on indicates a song that we are going to play from the year 2000. In the first year after the 90s, our decade of discussion, the hit music was varied and polished, and sweeter than a lollipop.
On our journey to the Candy Castle, will hear from some of the biggest pop artists and groups, the best rock bands, many rappers and far too many country artists! Get ready to hear from Jennifer Lopez, Dynamite Hack, Christina Aguilera, No Doubt, Lonestar, Wheatus, George Strait, Bright Eyes, Shaggy, N*Sync, Janet Jackson, Backstreet Boys, Jay-Z, Destiny's Child, Madonna, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Nelly, Bush, Snoop Dogg, 3Doors Down, Nine Days, and many, many more!

This episode was recorded some months ago, and never released. At the time, it was seen as too dark, too controversial. Is the world finally ready? Hard to say, but in this episode, we discussed the winner and the nominees for the 1998 Rock Album of the Year Grammy Award.
John Fogerty took home the prize with his solo album, Blue Moon Swamp, but most people agree that the second album from Foo Fighters, The Color and the Shape, should have won. U2, Aerosmith & the Rolling Stones were also nominated.

If anything could ever be this good again

Episode 37: Roll of the Dice
On today's ep, we are playing a little game. A simple roll of the dice will bring up a certain genre and year and we will hear one of the top songs in that quadrant. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. It's simpler than it sounds.
Tonight we have the extreme fortune of hearing from Shania Twain, Rancid, Celine Dion, Incubus, 2Pac, the Dixie Chicks, MXPX, Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, Garth Brooks, Puff Daddy, the Wallflowers, Choking Victim, and Jay-Z. It may well be the very most diverse list of artists ever on one of our episodes.
This is what a woman wants
Any man of mine better be proud of me
Even when I'm ugly he still better love me
And I can be late for a date that's fine
But he better be on time

Episode 34: March 27, 1999 pt. 2
Oh, baby, baby!
Let's continue making fun of the year 1999 by finishing up the top 40 chart from 20 years ago. These are the songs that were getting the most play on top 40 stations, and you'll hear several songs that defined the era.
Boy Bands abound. We play *NSYNC, Backstret Boys AND 98 Degrees, PLUS a solo single from the biggest boy band of the dawn of the 90s, New Kids on the Block's Joey Mintyre! And after all of that, you might be surprised to find Nick Lachey on top of the heap. But that's just the way it is.
Do you believe in life after the 90's?

It's the year 1999. Star Wars is finally back, frosted tips and pukka shells are in, and boy bands are on the charts. Tonight we begin the Top 40 chart from March 27, 2019.
The Vengaboys are here to party. That's a given. Then a lot of other stuff happens, and finally we play Mariah Carey.

Episode 32: Mar 14, 1998 pt. 2
OK, now this is Nineties radio. Everclear, Creed, Blink 182, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Pearl Jam, Fastball, Natalie Imbruglia, and Radiohead all lead us to Marcy Playground at number one. Sorry for the spoiler.
Before we get to the songs, though, the sorting hat has its say. The Nintendo 64 Zelda game, Ocarina of Time is one of Mike's favorites, but Adam is unfamiliar with the Zelda games. Mulan was one of the last great Disney animated movies of the 90s.
Let's get down to business to defeat the huns.

Episode 31: Mar 14, 1998 pt. 1
On this episode of Nineteen Ninety What, we are back to basics! The year in question is 1998, and we are looking at the Alternative Songs Chart. And, yeah. There are a lot of forgotten one "hit" wonders tonight. But before we get to those, the sorting hat has it's way with us.
We pull two movies and one video game from '98. Small Soldiers and Half Baked are 2 very different movies, and we talk about the things that made them great. Also, we vaguely remember Metal Gear Solid. They can't all be winners, and at least this proves that we don't pad the sorting hat, right? Right?!?
When we get to the chart, We do hear from some familiar voices, like Oasis, Pearl Jam and Bush, but there are also a ton of no-name artists that we've never heard from before and will probably never hear again: Big Wreck, Finley Quaye, Huffamoose, God Lives Underwater, and Cornershop. Plus we get to talk about the ska and swing revivals that brought horns to 1998 in a big way.
All that Shimmers in this world is sure to fade away again.

Episode 30: Office Space
For episode 30, we switch things up a bit, and dedicate an entire episode to one movie, it's soundtrack, and legacy. Mike Judge's classic, Office Space is now 20 years old, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to revisit this touchstone workplace drama.
Listen to the nineties hardcore gangsta rap that the repressed and nerdy software engineers of Initech held near and dear to their hearts. We will also be playing clips of some of our favorite comedic moments, and FULLY SPOILING the entire plot of the film. So don't listen until you've watched, if you care about spoilers in a 20-year-old cult comedy.
I celebrate the guy's entire catalog.

Episode 29: Deep Cuts and B-Sides
Tonight Adam & Mike have selected some of their favorite, non-single, deep cuts and B-sides from their favorite bands.
The Sorting Hat brings us discussion on the 1997 summer blockbuster hit, Men In Black.
When we say that we're playing our favorite bands, we're talking Nirvana, Weezer, Green Day, the Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, etc. But there is some ska, with Less Than Jake, and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and some pop punk with Rancid, Eve 6 and blink-182.
"This track is so elusive, a UK exclusive, Japan-only import bootleg of the in-store. This is the B-est of B-sides."
