In honor of Women’s History Month, I want to salute women. As women we go through trauma , drama , growth , career progression, love , life ,etc . Knowing who we are is half the battle, but people fully understanding our role is still a war most haven’t mastered yet. This podcast series will talk about what women go through to get through.

We are living in a time where kids are being bullied, committing suicide , committing homicide, be disobedient to parents an their elders , they are faced with tons of depression and the list goes on. Your Girl Dee talks about parenting her 4 kids in this generation and the issues and challenges they have or may face.

My guest Shan talks about the trauma she faced from being broken hearted in two relationships . Shan also talks about the depression she faced , and her healing journey .

Shalondia and her high school sweetheart Dee had 4 children together. However, 13 years ago a tragedy would hit Shalondia and her kids. Shalondia was only 30 when Dee who was age 31 passed away . Dee was a provider, and Shalondia’s best friend. Shalondia endured a lot but learned to cope with grief and continues her path of healing. Shalondia has achieved so much since Dee’s passing and chooses to share her story.

Conceived and born into trauma... Ahnonda talks about being born in a women’s prison to her mom who was addicted to drugs and never knowing who her dad was/is. Ahnonda trauma doesn’t end there, she was molested by her twin cousins who had killed their dad. Due to her trauma Ahnonda lashed out and went to jail , joined a gang , and only dated men she could control .
However , Ahnonda knew that she had to make some changes . Having to raise her baby brother at the age of 13, surrounding herself with positive friends , and a praying grandmother Ahnonda did a 360 and went to college where she eventually became a licensed clinical addiction counselor . Sexual trauma is an issue that has plagued the black community for centuries and centuries. However, we have been taught that “what goes in our house stay in our house” . This cliche is why so many sexually abused cases go unreported or unheard , but it’s now time for those whose experienced sexual trauma to heal. The abusers will now be televised !! The revolution is now to stop the madness plagued on children who then become adults who either bleed on someone else or shelter themselves from the world and choose vices due to the traumatic experiences they have encountered as a child.

Rape .. The second victim of sexual Trauma series is Lon . Lon was my guest for the “Divorce “ episode . Lon is now back to discuss being raped at the age of 13 the summer before going to the 8th grade. Lon was violated and her childhood innocence was taken from her . However, with therapy , family love , and support she has elevated and has not allowed her sexual trauma to define her !! All stories don’t end like Lon some victims aren’t supported or hide their rape ,but tune in to listen to Lon describe the day of her rape and how she has used her rape to help others.

A Mother’s love is like no other. For the week of Mother’s Day I decided to do a podcast episode centered around my mom, me being a mom, and my daughter witnessing two women be mothers. We sit down and talk about the great characteristics of motherhood as well as discuss things we would change as mothers and as daughters.

Why do we allow the rich and famous people to step in a lane of receiving a doctoral degree that they have not earned just because they are rich and famous ? Why do we take away this moment from those who worked tirelessly to put in the work? How often can we step in the rich and famous lane and be on the walk of fame or hall of fame as a regular person ?

Let’s discuss Bonnets, Pajamas , and Durags . I’m an advocate for looking your best self when you are out even when life throw lemons. I understand this narrative may defend some people because they feel it’s judging . However , can we be willing to understand the perspective of being presentable when in public or have we gone to far from acknowledging things our eldest have taught us in love ?

Superstitions tend to hold no merit in life , they are just notions placed in our culture to hinder us from being great . Make the money , eat filet mignon , elevate, hang with successful people, and do the work . This is the way to That’s change your life , not the superstitions that we were taught.

We often are so excited about having family and friends in college, but we never fully engage with them on finding out if this is a true fit for them.

Do we ask college students what stressors they face, how do they cope with day to day problems , and what motivates them to continue to go hard? Do we ask if college is truly for them or if they are doing this to make a loved one happy ?

There are so many distractions now including being a boss via social media that some young adults get distracted or feel it’s quicker ways to be successful than to attend college for 4-5 years.

So I wanted to share this episode with a college student who is also a business woman . I wanted Jilkiah to give her insight on college life.
