What Is In It For Us In Digital ID?

What Is In It For Us In Digital ID?

Humans, in some countries, are tagged with unique numbers and added to databases. What are the implications when this is done with digital systems? We begin exploring some of these issues in this first episode of the Numbered Humans podcast.

Yoti’s 2019 Digital Identity Fellows Paz Bernaldo from Chile, Subhashish Panigrahi from India and Tshepo Magoma from South Africa will be unveiling their findings through the episodes of this podcast. Paz, a development practitioner, researcher and activist is investigating the meaning of digital identity for unemployed and underemployed vulnerable people living in Argentinian cities of Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata. As a former community manager, documentary filmmaker and researcher Subhashish is looking at the perspectives of some of the most marginalized communities across India in relation to India’s national digital identity program Aadhaar. Tshepo is a researcher, strategist and innovator with experience in working with Africa’s small business and social enterprise sectors, and is trying to identify the role of South Africa’s digital identity program in fighting fraud.

All the episodes of this podcast that are collaboratively created by Paz, Subhashish and Tshepo will be aired through May - October 2020.
