169: Are Your Kidneys Working How They Are Supposed To?
An estimated 37 million adults in the US have altered kidney function. Approximately 90% of them don’t even know they have it. Our guests in this episode, Michelle McMurtery and Michelle Zachry, are registered dietitians who specialize in kidney nutrition.
In this episode, we talk about the importance of monitoring your labs on a yearly basis, how blood pressure and diabetes relate to kidney function, and what nutrients to limit, avoid, or include if you have altered kidney function.

Cheryl started working with me (Megan) at Nutrition Awareness in 2020 and was able to lose weight, gain muscle, and improve her metabolism over the next year. Admitting you want to lose weight weight has become taboo (so, of course we’re going to talk about it!)
Licensed psychologist and admitted perfectionist Dr. Samantha Rae joins Kait on the podcast to talk about body image, all-or-nothing thinking with food, and her own journey. After years of disordered eating, Sam shares how she was able to find balance with food & transform on both the inside AND outside.

160: A “Graduated” Client Experiences a Setback: Live Follow-up Session
This one starts a little heavy. Megan reveals something personal she hasn’t yet shared publicly and talks about getting back to work, which led her to reconnect with Becca (name changed for privacy) who came to Nutrition Awareness in 2020 wanting to lose weight.
Becca was already super healthy eater and avid exerciser. Becca is a rule follower. She wanted us to tell her what she was doing that wasn’t working and give her a blueprint to follow exactly. She would have followed ANYTHING we told her to do if it meant she would lose weight.
Unfortunately, the last thing Becca needed was a meal plan. She had no period, was tracking everything in MyFitnessPal, couldn’t gain muscle, was obsessive about her body and measured her self worth based on the last meal she had.
Over the next 16 sessions, we got INTO it. In this podcast, we talk about Becca’s journey to a level of confidence and freedom she has never felt and how changing her relationship to food radiated into every other aspect of life. We also talk about the setbacks she’s been experiencing lately and come up with solutions in real time.
Becca’s story blurs the lines between nutrition and therapy and addresses the need for the whole person and all aspects of life to be considered, not just what they’re eating.
