He is a former Marine, has 30 years of experience in law enforcement between the Sheriff department and the police department. He was the first African-American man to be appointed to Assistant Chief of Gwinnett County and if he wins, he'll be the first African-American Sheriff this county has ever seen. His platform mirrors community, and community-based policing. This episode may be triggering as I do discuss some detail of the traumatic events and how it actually changes you as a person. I'm sharing some of the methods I've used in my healing process. I hope this helps someone else. One of the most important parts of being a Certified Peer Specialist is supporting peers by sharing your own journey so I share my story so others will know that they are not alone in this journey.
