Creative Encounters

By Candle Culture

My vision with Creative Encounters is to create a space where creators can talk freely about how their faith in God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit inspires their work and sustains them through life. Through short solo episodes as well as deep conversations with creators, I hope to encourage you to take care of your soul even as you pursue your wildest dreams. The mission of Candle Culture is to encourage everyone seeking to experience and reflect God in the details of their daily lives; I want you to know that is possible and that you are not alone on this journey. ~love, Onyinye, curator of CC.

Back to Basics IV-Post-it Notes on Prayer

Back to Basics IV-Post-it Notes on Prayer

In this episode, I talk about prayer as a means of communicating with God in order to foster a relationship with our maker. While there is no one way to pray, I share little notes on the "how" part of this practice. I discuss the ways in which our view of God and prayer affects how we pray (perception), using sincere words (simplicity), knowing that we are never alone in prayer (community), diligently seeking God (consistency) and graduating from praying solely about our needs to praying for transformation (introspection).

Quotes Mentioned

“For prayer is request. The essence of request, as distinct from compulsion, is that it may or may not be granted.”-C.S Lewis

"What I mean is this. An ordinary simple Christian kneels down to say his prayers. He is trying to get into touch with God. But if he is a Christian he knows that what is prompting him to pray is also God: God, so to speak, inside him. But he also knows that all his real knowledge of God comes through Christ, the Man who was God – that Christ is standing beside him, helping him to pray, praying for him. You see what is happening. God is the thing to which he is praying – the goal he is trying to reach. God is also the thing inside him which is pushing him on – the motive power. God is also the road or bridge along which he is being pushed to that goal. So that the whole threefold life of the three-personal Being is actually going on in that ordinary little bedroom where an ordinary man is saying his prayers."-An excerpt from Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis
