Outcome Podcast

By Matt Schiff

This is not a podcast to give advice.

It is here to share stories. To provide insight. To shine a light on the humanity being done in a world that has become desensitised to darkness. Internal and worldly darkness.

It tries not ONLY to show the individuals that are are expert go-getters, but ALSO those who will never get a place in the spotlight, nor ever want that recognition. Neither better or worse.

It is here to be “objectively understood, and if you choose, subjectively adopted, by either changing your reality or changing how you see it”

An Approach Podcast.

Szn 2: Hello and welcome!

Szn 2: Hello and welcome!

Hello ladies and gents and welcome back to the Outcome Podcast. If you're joining me for the first time, my name is Matt Schiff, your gracious host, and I am so privileged to be having you here with me today. We're giving a couple of new episodes a go through slightly different formats. If you are a return guest, you might have noticed these conversations tend to take place between 60 to 80 minutes, some long format, meaty stories, and guests that have joined me on the show up to date.

[00:00:28] And this new version is going to include some new bite-sized pieces, episodes that are slightly shorter, less than 25 minutes, all for your ease of listenership. I thank you for joining and the episodes that were recorded last happened so around 2021.

[00:00:45] So the context in which many of the conversations took place were totally different. The guests were in a very different mindset or different space to where they are now. But the conversations with them were so good and as a matter of interest and a matter of fact,

[00:00:59] I feel obligated and excited to share their conversations with you.

[00:01:05] So you'll find bits and pieces of bite-size information, but also some longer format conversations coming to you fast and furious. If there happens to be a conversation that resonates with you and you would like to share it with your community, please do so. This podcast, wherever you might be listening to right now, can be found absolutely anywhere.

[00:01:25] And with your help, it will get a bit further out into the universe. So I thank you. I welcome you if you're new to the platform. And it is an absolute privilege to be walking this journey with you once more. Welcome back to the Outcome Podcast.

#16: Scott Parker - Behind the two-star Iron Chef

#16: Scott Parker - Behind the two-star Iron Chef

Not all things in life are black and white. It's the slogan of this show and it certainly was the case during my conversation with Episode 16's guest - Scott Parker (@scottparker1987).

The very first released recording for 2021 is introduced to you by a man, who at first glance, is arguably best known for his delicate palette, chef whites, and magazine cover appearances. Let me be the first to tell you that his story in relation to what you might see or hear, is truly not what you may think. Amplifying beautifully exactly what this podcast aims to achieve.

Scott Parker - the man of the hour - has humbly shared his story with me during this recording and I could not be more excited to share it with you. Admittedly, I was quite nervous to get Scotty behind the mic as the man displays SUCH an impressive resumé, my fear was that having one conversation would not do him and his "life's story" up to now, justice. Moments before we sat down to record, however, we got talking about vulnerabilities. Nothing too specific around the subject, more about what was going on in our current lives at that point in time, and without giving away too much, you might want to take a chair for this conversation.

For those who are unsure of the name or the story, Scott Parker remains one of the most humble, hardworking, philanthropic human beings you'll ever come across. From starting the year incredibly ill to being hospitalized after suffering from a pulmonary embolism, to feeding more than 3,000 people per day during COVID restrictions, I tried to cover it all with Scott.

Personality & characteristics aside to speak of some of his credentials - Scott was trained at the prestigious Westminster Kingsway College in London for 3 years, and during his time there picked up some very impressive work & culinary experience under Andrew Turner & Shane Osbourne independently. Shane at the time was the Head Chef of a 2-star Michelin restaurant called Pied a Terre, the same restaurant where Scott remained for 2 years after completing his diploma, before moving to the next 2-star Michelin called Claude Bosi's Hibiscus where he was then promoted to Sous Chef.

From the age of 16 where Scott got his first taste of what it's like to be behind the pass in a kitchen, to 21 where he became the Head Chef a 2-star Michelin restaurant, Midsummer House, to where we sit today, Scott has cooked in restaurants with a combined EIGHT Michelin stars among them! No small feat I’m sure you understand.

His storytelling throughout our conversation is captivating. His experiences at home, in school, in the kitchen, and through his occupation at the moment is immensely vulnerable and awe-inspiring. This is undoubtedly one of my top 5 favourite conversations to date, and one which I can’t wait for you to listen to.

Enjoy!

Introduction to Bite-Size Episodes #1

Introduction to Bite-Size Episodes #1

"Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to the Outcome Podcast!"

I am your host, Matt Schiff.

If you are joining me for the first time, then I welcome you to this platform. If you have been here before, welcome back. Man, did I miss you!?

The mics have been dusted off, the cogs have been greased, and some bloody great conversations have been patched up and ready to be delivered to you through the airwaves.

This year you will find the addition of shorter, bite-sized episodes scattered in between the usual long-form conversations. Why? Well, for a few reasons:

- To give those of you who don't enjoy +1 hour-long conversations the chance to not miss out on any great content.

- These episodes will not be longer than 20mins. Perfect for your daily dose of personal development or to scratch that curiosity itch.

- They will highlight the best stories, anecdotes, takeaways, or ideas from the previous week's episode, just in case you missed that chat.

I've been saying this for a while now, but FOR REAL this time, I cannot wait to share what has been recorded with all of you. I've thoroughly enjoyed every conversation up to date and have no doubt that if you've been following my incredible guests up until now, you will enjoy them too!

Please enjoy this very first Bite-Size Episode!

#15: Jenna Selley - Intuition, Health, and Dietetics

#15: Jenna Selley - Intuition, Health, and Dietetics

Jenna Selley (@jennaselley) and I talk all things intuition, health, dietetics, and outreach during episode 15.

You know, over the last few months I've put a lot of energy into understanding thought impulses and what effect that energy manifests itself into throughout my life. Clichés that come to mind when bringing up this topic include some dreary quotes like "Either you run the day, or the day runs you" or some more common quotes such as "whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve".

At the time of Jen's reaching out about the podcast, I had caught myself wondering how in fact she was doing and what about her knowledge and expertise could I potentially borrow for my audience to learn from, and for my "Thinkers" during my day-job to implement. Thus, something had ensured we were to connect again and from that connection came this wonderful conversation.

A person whom in very many respects has a similar perspective on life, health, fitness, and philanthropy as what I do. Jen and I spoke at length about her deep knowledge as a young dietician, and what intuitive eating and knowing your body has on the quality of life a person is able to live.

As per every episode on this podcast, I tried to guide the conversation in such a way that it humanized the Jenna Selley behind the C.V and bedside table, pen-in-hand. Without me having to probe too much at all, Jen was able to relate her first-hand experiences with food, intuitive eating, and the people she has helped over the years with a resource bank of tangible tools that you as the listener can apply right away. To me, despite her time in her career, Jen shows an impressive ability to practically advise how to apply the information "we all already know!"

In a society that constantly advertises what we should and shouldn’t do, it is easy to get lost in all the information on the ‘latest findings’. Nutrition, in particular, is a topic which most people have an opinion on, but more often mirror the voices of others. We all only have one heart, one set of organs, one mind, One Body

And as a result, we should not be timid nor shy to consciously strive to become the healthiest versions of ourselves. Through body, mind, and soul. That, and of course, trusting your dietician!

Enjoy

#14. Didi Mathibe - Life in Chapters

#14. Didi Mathibe - Life in Chapters

One of my longest and deepest relationships through friendship is put on a beautiful display through Episode 14's conversation with Didi Mathibe (@didi_mathibe).

The days leading up to our conversation were weird. There's no other way to put it. Protests around the globe had broken out around "Justice for George Floyd". The Black Lives Matter movement had been amplified, debated, and vivisected from every angle on and offline. A giant explosion had killed 135 people and injured over 5000 from a warehouse in Beruit. The threat of the Coronavirus was still very, very much upon us, and all during the same time, I was trying to make sense of what "this all means" in my own little world.

Then, my intention to invite Didi to the show revealed itself amidst the global turmoil. Why now? Why this way and through this platform? These were two questions she had actually asked me during our intro call prior to recording and it forced me to think long and hard about that word - "intention."

At the time of her asking, I had already begun my own journey of unlearning, listening, and re-visiting the heart-work to try and make sense of HOW I actually understood my own privilege; as well as what healing, freedom, and justice for Black people across the globe looked like today. Like many of you, I was having those uncomfortable conversations with myself and trying my utmost best to soak in any and all information from those around me. When Didi had then asked me "Why now?" and "Why this way and through this platform?", insecurities of my own had revered it's ugly head as it dawned that perhaps I was seeking comfortability by talking to a Black womxn whom I know and trust to "stumble" my way through my own vulnerabilities, through a means that I was comfortable with [conversation], without the "risk" of being scrutinized for being ignorant.

Didi could see right through me. I hated it. I loved it.

This empathetic nomad from South Africa who's just trying to find a spot in the world, or in herself, that feels like home is someone I heartfeltly consider one of the most beautiful souls the world has to boast. She was able to hold a space for our conversation to be had in the most authentic way I could've ever imagined by allowing me into her world in a way that I am extremely grateful for. Through a recording with her from across the world (she's currently in Bolivia) Didi portrayed compassion, empathy, love, kindness, and a hearty laugh as we went about her life's chapters.

#13. Brett Sparg - Life and Movement

#13. Brett Sparg - Life and Movement

Brett Sparg (@spargy15) - A good friend, mentor, and Greek-God-like human being introduces you to Episode 13!

Admittedly, Spargs had been on my radar for some time before I had invited him to be apart of the show. We all have people in life whom we're watching (as creepy as that sounds!). These same people, should you connect with their personal philosophy, are the influencers we're learning and taking inspiration into our lives from through their zest for life. Personally, it was a no-brainer as over the last few months it became so apparent that it was now time to invite one of my "distant" role models to have a conversation with.

For those who don't know any of Brett's story; a born-and-bred Cape Tonian with a deep loving for the city and the surrounding ocean he grew up in. Just by watching his online fitness classes with the Ignite Fitness crew or a casual social media stalk, you may or may not be intimidated by this +40-year-old rugged stud and the way he moves in space and fitness #lifegoals. However, Spargs is a gentle giant with zero chip on his shoulder who radiates humility and to be honest - inspiration.

Our conversation ebbed and flowed between early childhood to adulthood victories in sports and the experiences which shaped his worldview on life as a result of it. I'll let you be the judge in deciding whether the under-6 50m sprint race had more of an effect on Spargy's life than "finding surfing" or playing 80 caps for the Saracens First Rugby team. As exceptionally interesting as what this was to talk about, there was a moment early on in our conversation which made me feel as if I was literally walking in the shoes of this brilliant man.

For the first time in a long while, I found that I was able to connect with another man almost twice my senior who could relate to ME and understand my journey as if it were me looking back in time. There's a beauty to this experience which even now, I struggle to really interpret. Spargs allowed himself to be vulnerable about his past and present during our conversation, which gave me the opportunity to truly connect with both.

Yes, his fitness, sporting & business accolades are something to admire. However, his relationship with life, people, and way of being is one that inspires. Enjoy!

#12. Ross Symons - White on Rice Origami

#12. Ross Symons - White on Rice Origami

Ross Symons (@white_onrice), a Cape Tonian Origami artist, and I bring you Episode 12 on the Outcome. Podcast

You know, more often I find myself asking the question "what is something I could do today which I haven't done before?", fascinated (or obsessed) by the idea of starting something new and seeing it through. There's a sense of ownership which my routine monkey-mind loves and a self-imposed challenge which all of a sudden I feel obligated to complete as to simply say "I've done it".

When Ross had mentioned working his 9-5 job as a web developer and over time, realising that being employed by someone else was never going to make him happy, his pursuit of creative entrepreneurship had me intrigued. This and following his own self-imposed 365-day challenge in 2014 had already hit two of my favourite buzz phrases - "Experiential Learning & Mastery" AND "It's Not Black and White."

From a young age, Ross had always started some form of a side project. One of these which stuck came out of his enjoyment of practicing the traditional Japanese art of paper folding [Origami]. In retrospection with a Wayne Dyer video on a re-run, Ross had once again decided to apply his mind and focus to his newly-discovered art form, and thus White on Rice was born. Committing himself to create and post one Origami creature a day, Ross very quickly grew his Instagram following from 120 to 100,000 followers in just 18 months and embarked on his newfound journey into entrepreneurship.

Of course, this is the sort of content I crave as Ross and I dove a little deeper into what his journey up to now has been like. Meditation, creativity, vulnerability, and mindset factors are a few of the topics we explore and I absolutely loved it!

He now creates origami installations for some of the world's biggest brands, performs exhibitions that would blow you away, taught himself origami stop-frame animations, and shares this content for brands and people around the world. As an ex-radio host, Ross is no fo to public speaking gigs where he shares his story about how he made the shift from 9-5 web developer to an Instagrammer and full-time artist.

Enjoy!

#11. Tatiana Sharpe - The Lonely Tiger & Global Impact Network

#11. Tatiana Sharpe - The Lonely Tiger & Global Impact Network

Tatiana Sharpe (@tatianasharpe) - Zimbabwe's youngest author, Co-Founder and CEO, Business owner, team member of Global Council for the NGO World Merit, United Nations (UN) Speaker and an incredible philanthropist through numerous volunteer programmes, this episode recording promises to have you enthralled from start to finish.

Whilst Tatiana is all of these things mentioned above, this conversation was so beautifully recorded as its content contains her experiences and stories which have helped shape her into the woman she is today.

Upon meeting her she had me engrossed in the bits and pieces of life that have helped to mold not only her worldview, but the worldview of the people she interacts with daily. My perception initially, was to unpack more of these stories around her successes. "What is it like still today being recognised as Zimbabwe's youngest author? Tell me more about founding your current business - Global Impact Network - from the knowledge that the mammoth multimedia messaging app Snapchat was born from the same university course at Stanford. The United Nations - you spoke to a room full of Trustees in 2016 - what was that like?" Instead, our conversation went along a different path.

Yes, Tatiana's CV boasts a very impressive journey from the time most of us are pretty much learning to read. However, double-clicking to have a look beneath the surface of her accomplishments you will find one of the world's brightest and honest gems. Our conversation was instead geared towards taking a sneak peak at that.

As a solemn humanitarian herself, and plunging both feet with me into a topic requiring immense personal vulnerability, Tatiana allowed us the incredible opportunity to get to know her from the inside out. One which written words cannot do justice and which the recording I hope does.

Without a doubt, you'll hear from her again.

Enjoy!

#10. Trent Pike - Mielie Mailer

#10. Trent Pike - Mielie Mailer

Trent Pike (@trentcpike) - An exceptionally humble business man, travel enthusiast, and fellow inner-peace seeker joins me online for Episode 10.

With an exceptional story highlighting some of Trent's more recent life challenges and successes, Trent and I took a trip down memory lane to unpack much of where his current mental framework around past and present entrepreneurial successes has given him the experience and skillset to guide sustainable and consciously-minded business development.

Don't let Trent's tranquil demeanour fool you though. This man possesses strong liberal beliefs in ethics and environmentalism encompassing a triple-bottom-line approach to value creation. Three specific topics we dive a little deeper into throughout our chat. From dropping out of university, creating an exceptionally successful business venture from R5,000 in hand, being threatened by Instagram for perceived trademark violation, a beautiful "awakening" after reading "The Tibetan Book of Living & Dying", to visiting over 20 National Parks whilst living out of a travel van in the U.S for 3 months, Trent and I went on an adventure through time.

As Co-Founder of Mielie Mailer, his more recent business venture, Trent and his team are looking to bring sustainable packaging solutions to businesses throughout South Africa. What do they offer? A 100% compostable plastic-alternative to traditional delivery sleeves fly-bags, that could remove up to 50 million single-use plastic bags every year from circulation.

He and his team are thought-leaders in sustainability, carbon sequestration and plastic-replacements, where their recent contribution to the South African Initiative to End Plastic Waste has cemented this position. With the belief that the best way to save nature is with more nature, here is another conversation where I was transfixed!

#9. Mark Fawzy - BoxChamp

#9. Mark Fawzy - BoxChamp

Episode 9 on the @outcomepodcast features the Founder and CEO of BoxChamp, Co-Founder of Flexi (Pty) Ltd - Mark Fawzy

As so aptly described in a write up of Mark in 2017, it is very difficult to picture the man doing anything mundane or sub-ordinary once you get a sneak peak into the mind behind the name. I've known Mark for quite a few years now and when the opportunity presented itself to find out a little more about his journey through sports, entrepreneurship and ultimately his perspective on life I jumped at the chance!

There's something quite special which develops when two friends sit down to have an "unusual" chat, that taps into the unfamiliar within a friendship. Despite the foundation of our friendship being formed some time ago, this conversation with Mark allowed me to  catch a glimpse of that spark he brings to everything he commits to doing in his day-to-day. And, one which I know that you as the listener will relate to and hopefully appreciate the way I did.

Mark and his team at BoxChamp have developed and presented the fitness industry around the world, with an all-in-one business management solution for fitness facilities. Their influence across the country has become so successful that in just a few years they are now challenging some of the giant household names globally, bringing with them an excellent customer service support team, stellar onboarding experiences for coaches and managers alike, agile work methodologies and a sleek, easy to use interface for the facility athletes and members.

Our conversation shifted from Mark nearing burnout during his first few years in running his business to being constantly on the lookout for balance in work and play. Family time, running, yoga, CrossFit, business education, podcasting - we covered it all.

I hope that you enjoy!

#8. C.C Achukwu - Uppist

Chinedu Chuka (C.C) Achukwu is a force to be reckoned with. From his outward appearance to his inward demeanour, C.C is an embodiment of practicing what you preach. It was quite difficult to hide how impressed I was when recording this episode as not only was I severely underdressed for the occasion, but I was entranced by the man's perspective on mental frameworks and experiences in life and leadership.

Our conversation spans across time where he takes you as the listener along a journey from life growing up in East Nigeria, to a visionary establishment dedicated to providing a suite of first-class services to African companies.

An entrepreneur at heart driven by a "bigger purpose", C.C is on a mission to unpack insights, highlight foresights and curate strategies to activate a life that is "boundaryless". In living out his ambition, what you see externally is a reflection of an intentional design to reflect a lot of the things he is inside.

C.C is also the Founder and CEO of Uppist, a leadership and management training and consulting service, whilst working in parallel hosting events, workshops and more recently the release of his new book - "Touching the Nerves of Leadership" which you can find more info around through his website.

#7. Flora & Sasha - Future Females

Future Females is a movement that exists to connect, inspire and support current and aspiring female entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs – to rapidly increase the number of and success of these women. A remarkable platform that provides an environment digitally, physically and emotionally, where women [and men] can connect with each other and access the resources they need to succeed.

The Future Females movement was founded by Lauren Dallas and Cerina Bezuidenhout in August 2017, and has grown to over 60 contributors, 3,000 global members and 26 cities around the world - watch out for this global domination!

During this terrific edition on the Outcome Podcast I was joined by the extraordinary Flora Fontes (Marketing Manager) and Sasha Zakharova (Programme Manager). During our conversation (I was quite nervous to be honest - haha!) we unpacked the Future Females movement from how Lauren and her team found their niche in the world of entrepreneurship and how the movement engages with their community to create safe spaces for women globally, opening up a place where each individual can feel vulnerable, give and receive feedback and share wins and losses alike.

We also dove a little deeper into the psychological frameworks behind women in entrepreneurship and what some of the often recurring limiting (mental and physical) factors were experienced by these individuals. But, this episode was not recorded to highlight only the struggles. Inversely, Flora and Sash provided some great information on how in over a few years their content, business school, mentorship programme and events are used to combat the above factors.

This episode was unashamedly a massive milestone for me to record on the podcast, for which I would like to thank the Future Females team!

#6. Alexandria Procter - DigsConnect

#6. Alexandria Procter - DigsConnect

Where to start...

Alex Procter (@alexandriaproctor_) as a human being, is a single vibration of positive energy that is shooting through the universe at a million miles an hour! With her contagious energy sweeping the room, I got the privilege of being whipped up into it whilst spending an afternoon getting to know Alex and her journey through life so far.

What makes this introduction so interesting you might ask? #5. Chris and Heine - JOBJACK

#5. Chris and Heine - JOBJACK

Launched in 2018, JOBJACK was created as a platform for job seekers and employers to connect. The co-founders, Christiaan and Heine, realised after organising waitering jobs for friends and family, that there was a need for a singular platform where job seekers could find available positions.

JOBJACK is a marketplace for entry-level positions, focusing on posting jobs that require no tertiary education. By staying up to date with technology their team had created an easy to use platform for users to register, creating a JOBJACK CV and giving them free access to apply for positions in their area.  Companies have the same option to register on the JOBJACK platform and post their available positions - giving them access to reliable and relevant candidates.

Their team's hard work, mission and vision to "employ the world" is testimony to the kind of accolades they have been recognised with up to this point in their existence, with two superb nominations as well as a feature on eNCA sharing their message.

Nominated as finalists for the Disruptive Innovation Category Award on AppsAfrica.com

Heine (and JOBJACK) was also nominated for the Top 35 under 35 SAICA Award in August 2019

My ask to you listeners with this episode, if you know of any job seekers in the market please direct them to this recording to gain a bit more insight into how JOBJACK operates as well as to the resources included below to assist them in their search. I could not image a more user-friendly company and platform to help in this regard!

#4. David Clancy - Filmmaking & Adventure Travel

#4. David Clancy - Filmmaking & Adventure Travel

My last European recorded episode was one recorded with a great friend of mine, David Clancy, a French-American freelance filmmaker specialising in the adventure travel industry. This recording was quite a challenge to get right between a sketchy WiFi line somewhere between an eco-farm, deep in the outskirts of Limassol, Cyprus and a local, Colombian juice bar / coffee roastery! We had to rerecord this episode three times, which took about 3 hours to do, due to numerous technical difficulties, cars and dogs in the background and different time zones (hahaha!) But, we managed and personally I feel exceptionally grateful to have played a part in sharing this man's message with the world.

David has built his passion for filmmaking through his extensive travel experience to more than 45 countries (!). At his current age of 24.5 years old, David has seen, indulged and experienced some of the world's most remote locations and often those most of us wish to visit in a lifetime. From filming Gorillas and an active volcano in the Congo; flying feet out of a helicopter around Christ The Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro; hiking barefooted through the highest tropical mountain range of Cordillera Blanca, Peru; spotting White Snow Tigers in the Himalayas (in the snow!) and his incredible NGO work in Uganda, this man has enough stories, photos and videos to make even the most conservative green with travel envy.

We touch on his journey in discovering that passion for travel, overcoming self-doubt and ensuring he has a good enough support system around him in pursuit of his dreams. Unpacking some of his why and taking action during times of uncomfortability and how he made that next step with uncertainty looming is enough to give you chills as we round up Part 1 of this episode.

Stay tuned for Part 2, where Dave and I relive more of his actual travels!

#3. Simone and Simon - Movero

#3. Simone and Simon - Movero

"Movero (@movero_bamboo) was born out of a passion for movement. Running, dancing, lifting, climbing and all the other ways that get our hearts beating. From the start, we wanted to create activewear that would intensify this experience. That’s how our love affair began with bamboo." - Simone and Simon

Episode 3 on the Outcome Podcast not only digs into our new found "love affair with bamboo" and how it has been supported absolutely by panda bears, athletes and future generations (!), but taps into the hearts of this real life super-couple and how they have managed to live a life of business partners and newlyweds all in a space of 3 years.

I LOVED this conversation as it hit home in reminding me of the trials and tribulations my girlfriend and I have experienced in our mini adventure trying to live a life 4 months abroad. And, to hear how Sim and Si (as I fondly like to call the duo) have managed to not only start and manage a successful, locally produced, sustainable garment business; but to keep the flame alive as the wedding date draws closer is something I truly admire and reminds me of how human people are as well.

"Excitement finds true north" comes out in our conversation as I get literal chills listening to the two of them explain how they had come to find and then follow their purpose - that in fact it is so inherent to their beings you can feel it in their garments #FACT.  If the look and feel of Movero Bamboo (@movero_bamboo on Instagram) is not enough to sway you, then I would highly recommend spending some time scrolling your way through WHY bamboo as a garment, what the benefits are to you as a human, what is their sustainability impact like and the confidence through their return policy (which FYI - is highly unlikely that you would do so!)

It’s no secret that moving makes us feel good, feel alive. So, why not pick up some Movero garments to make you look alive whilst doing so!

#2. Glen Finkel - Adapt Your Life

#2. Glen Finkel - Adapt Your Life

Glen Finkel (@glen.finkel), a South African entrepreneur with a long personal journey through health, fitness, nutrition and business joins me for episode 2 on the podcast.

Not going to university at 19 and with a passion in health and fitness, Glen and I spend time going through his experiences from jumping straight into life at work and quickly becoming the top sales representative after three months at The Sharper Image Group of Gyms. Despite his ability to help grow the business and prospect of a promotion to a regional manager position five months later, Glen handed in his letter of resignation to fulfil a lifelong dream of starting his own business.

Joined by a friend and first business partner, Glen grew his offsite monitoring company in a new industry 10 years ago, to over 1000 employees and the biggest in South Africa before selling it to the second biggest security company in the world thereafter. It was at that pivotal period where he decided to go back into the field of health and fitness and follow his passion once again.

He and his wife partnered up with internationally recognised obesity specialist by the name of Dr. Eric Westman, who is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University and the founder of the Duke Lifestyle Medicine Clinic to start their next venture - Adapt Your Life

“Our mission at Adapt Your Life is to inform and educate as many people as possible all over the world. You don’t have to be a victim to your body. Your wellness is in your hands, and we will help you find the pathway to a fitter, healthier, and happier life.” says Glen.

Our conversation then transitioned into topics around mindsets during a startup phase with no real mentorship, the importance of support and the role which the women in Glen's life have turned him into the man he is today, as well as a relentless pursuit in finding your why, which is a journey I thoroughly enjoyed covering.

#1. Alan Foulis - Dark Performance Apparel

#1. Alan Foulis - Dark Performance Apparel

"It is in Dark places that we learn who we are. Our journeys to athletic greatness take us on different paths. These paths are hard. These paths are painful. These paths are lonely. These paths require decisions."

- Alan Foulis

Alan Foulis (@alanf7), is the co-founder of a proudly South African garment company called Dark Performance Apparel and top level competitive CrossFit athlete that knows Dark places.  Through this first release of the Outcome Podcast Episode #1 we chat about his journey through being a dad, pro CrossFit athlete, coach, business owner and doughnut-oholic.

I really enjoyed this conversation with Alan as it was coming from a place of friendship and familiarity, although this time it was outside the CrossFit box. Reliving certain setbacks and uncovering how they had turned into a means of inspiration and personal motivation for him was chilling to hear. I hope that the same happens with you.

"Through certain injuries and pain on his path to athletic greatness in Europe, North America and Australia, time revealed the need for a partner, a partner unlike any other." Which was when Dark Performance Apparel was born.

Outcome Introduction and Hello!

Outcome Introduction and Hello!

This episode is my trial episode where I have finally pulled the trigger, and uploaded the episode 0 of season 1.

Whilst listening, you will hear a bit more information about me and how Outcome came into being. As well as a sneak peak into the themes and categories which I plan to discuss along the way.

It it without a doubt going through growing pains, so please bear with me whilst I iron out the uhms, ahhs and occasional “padding” in trying to get to the point and keep the conversation as “normal” as possible!

Should you have any feedback or comments, I would greatly appreciate them all. Please do not be shy and, thanks for tuning in.
