To Quit or Not To Quit
We all have moments where we want to quit our job. The question is, how often does that happen before you seriously leave? It might be because of the work environment, the culture, other staff, family needs, or money. No matter what the reason, it's important to be honest with yourself and comfortable with your decision to leave a job before you do.
Out of the Arts is here to bridge the gap between arts careers and non-arts professional careers. By identifying transferable skills, examining overlapping interests, promoting creatives in the workplace, and incorporating arts into civic engagement, we aim to help communities and individuals thrive. Making the Leap
As we get older and we grow, our interests, goals, and direction in life will also change. That’s not a bad thing. Think about when you were 10 years old. What did you want to do? We are going to talk about two groups of people. 1. People who moved into the performing arts world after having jobs and careers in other fields and 2. People who were in the performing arts and left for other industries.

The Pros and Cons of Transferable Skills
Translating a skill for another industry is an art in itself. You need to show how that skill works FOR the new industry in terms that the hiring manager understands. The concern is that these skills aren’t proven. This can be a problem for all skills. If you can’t prove how successful you are at using that skill, then the employer doesn’t know what to do with it. If you can explain your skill to be the best fit for an industry, then you’re winning. We want your future employer to see what you can do and how it’s beneficial to them.

Why You Need Values-Based Branding and Polarizing Content
Karla Gareau is a Director of Business Development and Communications who has spent many years helping others identify their brand and marketing strategies. She brings that wealth of knowledge to our table where we discuss what is important in branding, how to stand out, and the benefits of polarizing content.

Branding for your job search
The concept of branding confused the shit out of me. It’s the whole presentation of you, and it can be hard to identify if branding is a logo (The M for McDonalds) or a color pallet (Orange and white for home depot) or a catch phrase (Have it your way Burger King) but it’s all that and more. When job searching, this is one of those things that can help you stand out. Help you be memorable. What are the things that make you an individual? Translating all of your arts skills into a new industry, you DEFINITELY have skills that are different from the other people applying.

Using Your Values as a Career Compass
Many of us are driven by a desire to improve the world around us, in thoughts, words, and deeds. But how do we make sure our career echoes that?
Katherine Stephens is someone who is driven by a deep passion for equity, which she came to recognize she was not finding in theatre administration. Her efforts led to a disillusionment of the industry as a whole, and she made the choice to step away. It was her strong commitment to her mission and herself that led her in a direction she never planned, but that helped her feel good about moving forward.

Keeping the Arts in Your Life After a Career Change
Even when your primary income is not from the arts, it's possible to remain engaged and satisfied. It might be through community theatre, improv, an a cappella group, or more - you do you. Just make sure you're keeping the balance you need.
Kristine Bonaventura has a B.A. in Theatre, and spent several years working a Box Office position out of love and loyalty for theatre. However, she came to realize that working in the theatre, and doing the theater things she loved - including performing - did not give her the same types of satisfaction. As it turned out, leaving the arts job was what allowed her to fall in love with theater again...and find a 9-to-5 she loved too!
