#13: Delivering Meaningful Outcomes

#13: Delivering Meaningful Outcomes

The journey to explore the complex nature of outcomes continues! We're on a mission to discover empowering outcomes that can inspire people and businesses to better define their own relationships to change. The topic of this discussion concerns outcome delivery - what does it take to deliver outcomes to your customers in a world where the pressure to deliver fast clashes with delivering what matters.

The guest of the day is Alexandra Matei, a super talented product designer and founder of ACT (Arthritis Curved Tableware), producing flexible handle cutlery that aims to help people with mobility problems to be able to eat alone. To deliver outcomes truly means to think of the customer at every stage of the product design. Easier said than done; nonetheless, it's possible to do so when passion comes from an authentic space of creation. Thank you for listening, and stay tuned for more episodes!

#12: Outcome-led Product Design

#12: Outcome-led Product Design

The journey to explore the complex nature of outcomes continues! The topic of this episode concerns the role of outcomes in product design. The guest of the day is Radu Vucea who's been on an impressive career path for the past 20 years. He's now dedicating his experience and skills into running ixperi, a digital product design studio, and Mento Design Academy, an outcome-led UX Bootcamp helping learners gain valuable experience and get hired in the field of design.

Some of the lessons learned Radu shared highlight the importance of finding a balance. A theme that permeates outcome-led approaches. It takes a broader view to build your skills not only on the technical side of things, but also building that clarity and confidence to articulate what you stand for and why it matters to you.

That's yet another skill we must strive to acquire as we move towards outcome-based approaches.

Thank you for listening, and stay tuned for more episodes!

#9: Creating an Impactful Cloud Culture

#9: Creating an Impactful Cloud Culture

Welcome to a new episode of ODD Owtcomes!
The Cloud is perhaps one of the most volatile and shapeshifting spaces when it comes to the applications and the possibilities it can open for creatives, businesses, and digital problem-solvers. It is truly difficult to imagine technological innovation without the potential cloud spaces enable. But my latest conversations led me to find out that there's so much more to Cloud than technology. Gogontle Lynnette Monnaatlala, the Talent and Learning Lead at Spectrum Analytics, challenges how deep our understanding of cloud culture goes, beyond words and into a culture of practice:
"Innovation does not always come from reinventing the wheel but rather comes from seeing things as they are, capitalizing on what you can get from what has already been done, and using that in your own context."(Gogontle Lynnette Monnaatlala)
Enjoy listening in!

#8: Running Remote

#8: Running Remote

Hello and welcome to our new episode of ODD Owtcomes. Our discussion today concerns the ongoing shifts impacting work practices.

As the environment becomes more volatile, businesses and people take the opportunity to become more flexible and decide where they work and how they want to work. The past few years will likely affect the landscape of collaborative workspaces, the type of means in use, and most importantly, the culture. Besides finding effective ways to implement hybrid ways of working, some organizations entertain the possibility of running fully remote. Such drastic shifts require organizations to identify and define the changes that will occur in people's lives as well as fulfill new responsibilities for improving the quality of work experience.

For our episode today, Rob Rawson, the creator of Time Doctor and co-author of the Running Remote, is going to shed some light on the future of work from the office to what it takes to run a business remotely.

#7: Happy accidents, tools, and design communities

#7: Happy accidents, tools, and design communities

Creativity is not a scripted act. It often urges you to let go of trying too hard, especially when seeking to place constraints on how creative outputs unfold. That is the beauty of it. Whether it’s creating a new product, a tool, or a community, there is always a degree of unpredictability to how they will manifest. But that makes room for “happy accidents” or “odd outcomes”, as we call them. Our latest episode takes a dive into the worldview of a designer. Kevin Richard shares an insightful perspective on the role of tools and the dynamics of design communities.

#6: Odd about empathy

#6: Odd about empathy

Empathy is no easy feat. There isn't one way to define or express it, yet most agree that we need empathy to create meaningful experiences. But how much of our world is built on empathy? People struggle to form real bonds and act on their empathic drive because current understanding and practices don't do empathy enough justice to emerge consistently and at scale.

In this episode of ODD Owtcomes, we will talk about the shape of empathy and other odd things we've discovered on our empathic journey. You will learn why thinking about empathy in 4D and seeing it as a flow can help you apply it more effectively in collaboration and product design.

#5: Empathy and Leadership

#5: Empathy and Leadership

Now more than ever before, we have both the need and the opportunity to intersect creativity with empathy. We can design for more genuine interactions and spaces that enable people to have more meaningful conversations that stretch our thinking of the business-as-usual.

Our guest today, Sonja Wekema brought some very powerful perspectives on the role of empathy in organizations. As Co-Founder of The Board Whisperers alongside Daphne Laan, their mission has been to relentlessly help organizations and individuals to discover, and act on their purpose at full potential.

Sonja is a brilliant advocate for courageous leadership, a trait that she encourages us to find within ourselves and cultivate through empathy.

Hope you enjoy listening to this insightful episode!

#4: Learning, innovation and the daily struggles of Hybrid Work

#4: Learning, innovation and the daily struggles of Hybrid Work

Hello and welcome to our new episode of ODD Owtcomes. Today we’ll be discussing how disruption creates opportunities for hybrid work practices and also opportunities for us to rethink our values, priorities and relationship to business.
Our guest today, Tebogo Mogaleemang, is the CEO of Spectrum, a bold start-up from Botswana who’s on a mission to creatively disrupt the status quo and deliver impactful change through digitization while emphasizing on developing learning culture.
There is not always a direct path to achieving the best outcomes, but that is the beauty of it. Instead of trying to solve every problem outside, we can look inward and start building from there. Tebogo has offered me a great deal of fuel for thought on what it means to have a learning culture, how organizations can build around that and how to look at digitization.

#3: From hybrid work to hybrid thinking

#3: From hybrid work to hybrid thinking

Our recent context is infused with the frictions brought by the pandemic. While this has shifted how we do business, the future of work is going to be more than that.

Today, I’ll walk you through one of the most popular concepts of our current times: hybrid work. The ongoing conversations struggle to visualise what it means to us as individuals to perform in a hybrid work environment, who is likely to benefit more from it and who cannot enjoy the shift.

Hybrid workspaces are only the tip of the iceberg. We must learn to think deeper about hybrid work because it will shape our relationships to others, the world and ourselves.

Thanks for joining us on this ODD journey!

#1: Old SWOT Makeover

#1: Old SWOT Makeover

The SWOT tool is simple and easy to use. It gives a good summary of strengths and weaknesses, market opportunities, and external threats. There is just one problem. The tool is not action-driven to help teams move from strategy to implementation. SWOT has been around for decades, and it needs an upgrade to support our execution efforts and complex challenges. Just because you use it, doesn’t mean it’s good enough.

In this episode of ODD Owtcomes, we will talk about how we overcame traps and found surprising insights. This is the Meta-SWOT story, a new way to get good insights and act with confidence that you are on the right path to success.
