Pat & Jon on Their Best Behavior
By Patrick Stanny & Jon Lemay
Pat & Jon on Their Best BehaviorJan 28, 2021
Ep. 80: Oscars 2022 Rundown
The boys are still taking a break, but they got back in the saddle this week to talk the Oscars in the lead-up to this Sunday's ceremony. What two movies (one feel-good, one feel-bad) are duking it out for Best Picture? Which movie stands a chance of denying Pat and Jon's beloved "Licorice Pizza" a Best Original Screenplay win? Who's probably going to take home an acting award for a movie Pat has literally never heard of? Jon answers all the questions you're (not) asking, and Pat adds "Sam Elliott" to his list of terrible impressions.
Ep. 79: Catching Up / See You Soon!
No guests this week—just your co-hosts and some vibes! After announcing that this episode will be the last for a little bit while they put some prep in for next season, the boys talk Tom Brady's retirement/legacy (Pat brought it up, not Jon!) and whether "Euphoria" (or art in general) has as much power/influence as anyone seems to think it does. But for the most part, they discuss how and why our relationship to art/media has been fundamentally warped by, well... *gestures toward the entire world*.

Ep. 78: Harry Styles 101 [w/ Lex Briscuso]
Get ready for a crash course on one of the most beloved fan fiction subjects. No, it's not Patrick Stanny or Jon Lemay—it's pop icon Harry Styles! This week, the guys are joined by Lex Briscuso (writer at Paste and Slash Film, host of "Your Niche Is Dead") for a discussion of what draws so many people (including Lex) to Harry's music and aura—and, of course, we listen to some choice cuts from Harry's discography and influences. Also, Pat pitches an idea for a horror film to Lex (which you're not allowed to steal!) and Jon almost certainly says something to upset yet another fanbase.
Follow Lex on Twitter and Instagram (@nikonamerica on both), and be sure to find the rest of her writing/projects (including Your Niche Is Dead) at https://linktr.ee/nikonamerica

Ep. 77: "Sky High" (Is Not a Weed Movie) [w/ Adina Kruskal & Kara Powell]
The guys are joined by Adina Kruskal and Kara Powell of It's In My Queue to chat about 2005’s Sky High. After Pat and Jon pick Adina and Kara's brains on all things television, the gang talks Nicholas Braun’s hair, Pat learns what it means to "ship" someone, and we all yearn for a time before Marvel. (Hello, it’s Pat and I am writing this.)

Ep. 76: Rest In Peace, Peter Bogdanovich [w/ Matt Mitchell]
The guys welcome back writer and music critic Matt Mitchell to talk about the life and films of the late great Peter Bogdanovich. After sharing NFL playoff predictions, the gang talks about Bogdanovich's incredible run in the early 70s from "The Last Picture Show" to "What's Up, Doc?" to "Paper Moon." Plus Pat breaks down a couple choice stills from the movies—so follow along on the pod's Instagram (@patandjonontheirbestbehavior) to see what they're talking about! "Why am I always apologizing to you?”

Ep. 75: Best of 2021 (Guest Call-In Edition!)
This is history right here! Continuing the Pat & Jon year-end tradition, the boys have some of their favorite guests from 2021 call in to tell them/you about their favorite things they watched and listened to this past year! We talk "Titane" walkouts, the size of Batman’s package, DUUUUNE, boyfriends with Boomer reading lists, and even get some great dating advice for all the singles out there!
Thanks to all the guests who appeared on this ep (and the ones who didn't as well!) for helping make this a great year. And thank you to anyone who's tuned in over the course of 2021!

Ep. 74: Top 5 Albums & Movies of 2021
We know you all have been waiting on bated breath, and now you can finally hear what the guys have enjoyed watching and listening to all year! From pop-punk to rap to Paul Thomas Anderson, Pat and Jon's choices will be obvious—but the banter will be tremendous. Maybe you can guess their respective #1 movies of 2021! (Hint: their choices are films that would never win Best Picture. Do you think the Academy would pick a 7-hour nihilistic documentary or a film about a p*rnstar?) Stay tuned for our episode (dropping sooner than you think) in which we hear from some of this year's incredible guests about their favorites from the year as well! Enjoying the podcast? Ep. 73: The War on Christmas
Just vibing! The guys talk about Jon’s recent massive L, swap family Christmas traditions, and give bad Super Bowl predictions. Guess how many hours Pat spent playing Stardew Valley this year! Please sit back and enjoy this nice pre-Xmas hang...before you get mad at Pat and Jon for their top 5 movies of the year!

Ep. 72: WGA's Best Screenplays of the 21st Century [w/ Brittany Perlmuter]
Lists! We love to hate 'em, folks! This week, Pat and a congested Jon are joined once again by Brittany Perlmuter to talk about the WGA's recent list of the best screenplays of the 21st century (so far). The gang discusses which picks the WGA got right, which ones they got wrong, and which ones would appear on our lists if someone only had the good sense to ask! The boys also pick Brittany's brain on what she looks for in a screenplay as a talent agent, and Pat insults the city of Cleveland multiple times—but by accident, for a change!

Ep. 71: Best First (Not Thirst) Watches of 2021
Okay, guys, we’ve almost made it to 2022, and to celebrate, Pat has issued an apology to Joanna Hogg—because like all personal trainers, he believes in the cleansing power of the new year. But actually: we’re sorry we’ve been away, and we’re excited for you all to hear us talk about our favorite non-2021 films that we saw for the first time this year. Some of these choices are so obvious you’ll roll your eyes and crash your vehicle, but hey, that’s life in the big city.
Ep. 70: Tyler, the Creator [w/ Matt Mitchell]
The lads are joined by music journalist and poet Matt Mitchell—and for the second time in the history of the podcast, the flag of truce is waved between residents of Ohio and Pennsylvania. After a brief discussion of Browns vs. Steelers, the gang talks about Tyler the Creator’s musical evolution as well as his ever-changing public and artistic persona.

Ep. 69: "Spider-Man 2" [w/ Max Cianci]
Happy 69th episode! (Nice, amirite?) The guys are joined by writer/director Max Cianci (and first in-studio guest in some time) to talk 2004's Spider-Man 2. The fearsome threesome talk about why the movie still rocks (and how it impacted each of them when they first saw it), why Toby and Kirsten were done dirty by the culture, and a potentially/hopefully un-cringey conversation about why "Spider-Man 2" is a great movie to learn filmmaking from.

Ep. 68: Blockbuster Round-Up ("No Time to Die" / "Dune")
Pat and Jon are back to frequenting (see also: terrorizing) their local movie theaters, and they recently caught two of the year's biggest blockbusters—so they decided to catch up on their impressions of "No Time to Die" and "Dune." Which of the lads was lukewarm on the latest entry featuring a world-weary 007? Which one had a transcendent experience traversing the sandy mountains of Arrakis? Trick question: it's the same answer for both! (The other was too preoccupied with holding his bladder during the 2.5 hour runtimes to think about anything else.) They also talk about whether spy movies have a place in our current world and predict how "Dune" will fare at this year's Oscars.

Ep. 67: Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity" [w/ Jonah Evans]
This week, P & J are joined by writer Jonah Evans to discuss Jimmy Eat World's classic 1999 album "Clarity." After Jon recounts a hectic day filled with three-hour classes, a reckless raccoon, and a dysfunctional Burger King, the gang discuss what makes the album stand out in the context of Jimmy Eat World's discography and the emo music scene. Pat also makes a case for the arena/stadium concert-going experience, Jonah and Jon flex about seeing famous musicians in basements and backyards before they got big, and the term "normie" gets thrown around unironically.

Ep. 66: Book-to-Film Adaptations [w/ Danny Gaylord & Laura Sieling]
What could be better than a good book? A good movie based on a book, that's what! (Jon does not endorse anything said so far in this episode description.) This week, the boys are joined by Danny and Laura from the podcast "Film Is Lit" to talk favorite book-to-movie adaptations. Danny and Laura share some takeaways after hosting a podcast about book-to-movie adaptations, the gang discusses what they love about their respective picks (which range from sci-fi to neo-westerns), and Pat feels insecure about recording with not one but TWO avid readers.

Ep. 65: Most Anticipated 2021 Films / "The Card Counter"
It’s a P&J two-fer this week! After a quick review of Paul Schrader’s new film “The Card Counter” (spoilers aplenty, so skip to 28:30 if you plan on seeing it), the lads count down their most anticipated films for the remainder of the year and discuss some other buzzworthy 2021 moving pictures. As ever, there's some overlap with Pat and Jon's picks, as well as some unique flair to their respective lists—which feature an upcoming installment in a certain spy action series, a Western set in the state Pat likes to pretend he's from, and a movie about a washed-up porn star. Pat also humiliates Jon by correcting him on his pronunciation of a French-Canadian director’s name—because what else are co-hosts for?!

Ep. 64: "Election" [w/ Mona Awad]
Do you remember who ran for class president at your high school? They joined the CIA after college, didn't they? Wait, sorry: this week the boys talk to author Mona Awad about the 1999 black comedy "Election." In addition to exploring the film's influence on Mona's new novel "All's Well" (which gives Pat and Jon flashbacks to college theater departments), the three recount stories of their own high schools' elections and discuss the legendary performance of Reese Witherspoon and stunt casting of Matthew Broderick. Pat and Jon even hear about Mona's chance encounter with a patron saint of the podcast (hint: look at the podcast art). Please don't write in Jon for any future elections—he's already stretched way too thin.
Pick up a copy of "All's Well" from your local bookstore or order online at Bookshop.org!

Ep. 63: The Front Bottoms [w/ Brian Tassey]
The lads are joined by pal Brian Tassey to talk about the spunky folk punk band The Front Bottoms. After a quick NFL week 1 recap (mercifully short, we promise), they sample a few choice songs, talk about their respective connections to the music, and discuss the band's appeal. Brian also recounts how he and Jon met (Spoiler: it's an all-timer).
Check out Brian's plant Instagram (@plantdadnation) and keep an eye out for music from his band Bodega Cat (@bodegacatband).
Ep. 62: Movies About Grief
The boys thought it would be good to talk about an uplifting topic for their triumphant return, so here we are! Get your tissues, text your therapist, and draft a message to your ex—because we're talking about the movies we (and the listeners) love that explore grief and loss. Pat and Jon list their favorites—which includes both some classics and some recent hits—and then read a bunch of wonderful listener submissions. Maybe this episode is cathartic, or maybe its confirmed your instinct about us! Doesn't matter! "You are enough" —Pat.

Ep. 61: Underoath's "Define the Great Line" (15 Years Later) [w/ Adam Hastings & Chad Scott]
Jon goes back to his roots (and drags Pat along) as they're joined by Jon's childhood pals Adam Hastings and Chad Scott to discuss Underoath's album "Define the Great Line," a classic in Christian music and the hardcore/metalcore genres. The gang discusses why the album's style and lyrical themes appealed to them when the album came out 15 years ago—and how Underoath managed to achieve so much mainstream success outside a Christian audience. Plus, Pat learns about the many ways Evangelical kids find workarounds to discover cool music, and he hears about a scandal involving an illicit trip to see X-Men 3 in theaters.

Ep. 60: The Neo-Noirs of Criterion ("Chinatown" / "Blood Simple" / "Brick")
“Forget it, Jon, it’s Pittsburgh.” The boys are back after a little break to highlight some of their favorite films from the recent Criterion Channel curation, “Neo-Noir.” They discuss the LA cynicism of “Chinatown” (1974), the Texas grit of “Blood Simple” (1984), and the labyrinthian high-school intrigue of “Brick” (2005). They also talk about the history and characteristics of the film noir genre and the experience of watching "Chinatown" during global warming—and they wonder why schools in California are outside.

Ep. 59: "Sing Street" [w/ Gab Nieporent & Devin Johnson]
Get ready for bad Irish accents and Taylor Swift crooning! The lads are joined by Gab Nieporent and Devin Johnson (Tay to Z: A Taylor Swift Podcast) to talk the 2016 rock musical "Sing Street." The group talks their favorite moments and songs from the film, the Irish pronunciation of “school,” and Ronald Reagan's presidency and acting career—and all the while, Pat desperately tries to keep the Swifties entertained.

Ep. 58: "The Land Before Time" & Don Bluth's Melancholy [w/ Meg Shields]
Religious background: check. Depressing artistic oeuvre: check. No, we’re not talking Jon Lemay—we’re talking famed animator Don Bluth, whose work delighted and depressed all manner of children during the 80s and 90s! The boys are joined by film writer Meg Shields (author of a fantastic piece entitled "The Melancholy of Don Bluth") to discuss three of Bluth's early/best films ("The Secret of NIMH," "An American Tail," and "The Land Before Time") and Bluth's overall themes/style. We talk everything from the first tragic 10 minutes of TLBT to the superiority of the the toys at Canadian McDonald’s, as well as what everybody's excited for after Cannes 2021.

Ep. 57: Pat Finally Watches "Titanic" [w/ Alex Chernin & Lily Donahue]
The boys are joined by P&J favorites Lily Donahue and Alex Chernin to discuss a tiny movie about the Irish-American experience called "Titanic." Pat tries to compare himself to Leo, Jon shows the gang a terrible alternate ending, and Alex and Lily hold on for dear life. (“'My Heart Will Go On' was a Future song first.”—Pat)

Ep. 56: The Albums that Shaped Us (Part 2)
The guys conclude their two-part series that some critics are calling “cringe” and “an investigation into Jon’s poetry that no one asked for.” This episode, Pat and Jon talk about the albums that shaped them during college through their post-grad years. They talk Lil Peep, panic attack-inspired electronic music, and a whole lot more. As we go on, we remember, etc.

Ep. 55: The Albums That Shaped Us (Part 1)
The boys tackle the pod-old question "Why are they the way they are?"—at least as it pertains to their taste in music. They each bring in five albums that were formative to their identities as music nerds, this week covering the middle school to early-college years. Which alt-R&B crooner made Pat a regular on Tumblr his senior year of high school? Which album from a certain 2000s indie sadboi taught Jon that it was okay to be sad (and to oppose the Iraq War)? Tune in to find out—and stay posted for Part 2 next week, in which Pat and Jon will tackle another five albums that bring them from college to the present day.

Ep. 54: The One Where We Listen to the "Friends" Theme Over 100 Times [w/ Jakob Maier]
Pat and Jon are joined by writer Jakob Maier to listen to the “Friends” theme song over and over and talk about nothing and everything. Jakob recently released a project in which he filmed himself watching every single intro to "Friends," and we try to follow in Jakob's footsteps. It’s either a modern art piece or just a lot of chatting about "Friends," cooking contests, and the future of movie lengths. The gang also recasts "Friends" with a truly iconic trio of women.

Ep. 53: "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" Turns 10 Years Old Today
Pat and Jon rent a cabin in the woods and listen to the lush soundscapes of Justin Vernon’s 2011 masterpiece "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" for the album's 10th anniversary. The boys talk post break-up artistic productivity and how many poems Jon has written while listening Bon Iver—and Pat finds out he’s read a book that Jon hasn’t. Don’t you cherish me to sleep, am I right?!

Ep. 52: Pat & Jon (Try to) Get Deep with Robin Williams [w/ Bella Ortiz]
The boys are joined by actor Bella Ortiz to talk about a few films starring Robin Williams. They obviously discuss "Good Will Hunting," and Pat shudders thinking about a certain city he never wants to get stranded in. And they also ask life’s big questions. What happens when we die? How do we live in the moment? After 50-some-odd episodes, does Pat know how his own show works?

Ep. 51: Cat Stanny & Jon Lemeow [w/ Olivia Nielsen]
Your jellicle hosts are back to tackle yet another musical, and Pat *could* be more thrilled! This week, the boys are joined by comedian/actor Olivia Nielsen to explore the 1998 filmed performance of the smash hit musical "Cats." Tune in to find out if Olivia was one of the children who was enamored by the musical—or if she was among the children who were completely traumatized by it. Of course, hottest cats and favorite songs from the musical are discussed! Also, the gang recounts cherished VHSes from their youths, Jon relives a traumatic customer service debacle with Chipotle, and Pat's apartment falls apart as he records.

Ep. 49: Pat's Birthday Bash (or, Pat & Jon Play Catch Up: Round 3)
The boy are back for another round of "Pat & Jon Play Catch Up," and Pat's birthday wish came true: he didn't have to listen to any of the sad albums or watch any of the two-hour-plus movies of the type that Jon normally assigns him for these episodes! In honor of Pat's birthday week, Jon agreed to take on three things that Pat's been wanting him to check out. What do a 70s film noir, a collaborative mixtape between two titans of modern hip-hip, and a 90s heist romance movie have in common? Can Pat stick the landings in his segues between the three topics? Will Jon resist the temptation to correct Pat just because it's his birthday?

Ep. 48: Oscars Recap & Chloé Zhao's America [w/ Kyle Amato]
In honor of Chloé Zhao's historic win at the Oscars this past weekend, the boys are joined by Kyle Amato to recap Sunday night's ceremony and discuss Zhao's career and filmography. Jon becomes a human Wikipedia page on all things Chloé Zhao, Pat gets to daydream about being a cowboy (until he finds out that he can't bring his blender), and Kyle bids a not-so-fond farewell to the 2020 awards season.

Ep. 47: The 2021 Oscars Extravaganza [w/ Brenden Bendorf]
It came true! The guys are joined by Brenden Bendorf (of "Filmoholics Identified" and Episode 15 fame) to share some thoughts and predictions on this year's Academy Awards and to tell you everything you need to know going into this Sunday's ceremony. They discuss some exciting/perplexing categories, reexamine the state of film in 2020, and—true to form—Jon takes it all way too seriously. Most importantly, we find out once and for all if Pat prefers White Claws or IPAs.

It's time to rob! The fellas are joined by talent agent Brittany Perlmuter (ICM Partners) to give the criminally underrated 2013 celeb culture send-up "The Bling Ring" its proper due. They truly cover it all: posting concerts on Instagram stories, the Browns-Steelers rivalry, "Promising Young Woman," and reading between the lines of Taylor Swift lyrics. They also find some time to discuss the movie, dissect Emma Watson's American accent, and listen to some choice cuts from the soundtrack.

Ep. 45: Reject Discourse, Revitalize Cinema [w/ Spencer Rider]
Discourse! Even if you don't know what that word means (Pat doesn't, Jon pretends to), you probably engage in it, and that's what P and J are here to talk about. The boys are joined by writer/podcaster Spencer Rider to discuss his incredible article "Reject Discourse, Revitalize Cinema" in which he outlines how film discourse tends to function more as "extensions of fashion and politics" than as conversation about the movie itself. In this week's episode, Spencer discusses his motivations for writing the article, Pat travels back to 2006 and relives his obsession with Borat, and Jon complains about Twitter without ever considering logging off.

Ep. 44: Jon Loves Emo
You knew it was coming, dear listener! This week, the boys tackle Jon's holy grail of music genres: emo music. Is this all a ploy on Pat's end to ensure that the topic never gets brought up again on the podcast? Only time will tell! They discuss common misconceptions regarding what is/isn't truly emo (the terms "mall emo" and "twinkle daddies" are discussed at length), Jon recounts his personal experiences and encounters with the genre's recent revival, and Pat is given the impossible task of differentiating between emo lyrics and lines from Jon's poetry. Plus, Pat and Jon listen to some killer emo classics, and they outline their plans for a certain upcoming season currently being planned by a son of Tom Hanks.

Ep. 43: Mean Girls [w/ Margot Harris]
The guys are joined by Pat’s high school love life whisperer (and digital culture journalist) Margot Harris to talk the 2004 cultural totem "Mean Girls." They talk about watching the film religiously through the aughts and which aspects of the movie have aged well—as well as what’s aged poorly. The gang also talks high school mascots, who they would be if they could redo high school, and what the fuck happened to Gretchen Wieners.

Prepare for lightspeed (or something), as the boys are joined by writer (and Jon’s birthday twin) Div Kirti to discuss several iconic installments in the "Alien" film franchise. The gang talks about their respective experiences with the sci-fi genre, Jon says something annoying about intergalactic colonialism, and Pat’s allergies start bothering him when he sees a cat over Zoom. Most importantly, we get acquainted with the cast of characters from Div’s high school film club!

Ep. 41: We Miss Movie Theaters [w/ Conor Quinlan & Brendan Quinn]
Turn off your cell phone and crack open that beer you snuck in: it's time to reminisce about going to the cinema (as it's referred to in Ireland). The lads are joined from across the pond by actors Conor Quinlan and Brendan Quinn (of Galway and Belfast, respectively) to talk what they miss most about movie theaters. They talk recommending the wrong movie to your mother, as well as narc-ing on your pal for bringing beer into the movie—and Jon learns some Irish vocabulary.

Ep. 40: Pat’s Animation Indoctrination [w/ Julia Hansen]
The fellas are joined by Skidmore pal Julia Hansen, who gifts them the opportunity to rediscover their child-like capacity for wonder as they tackle two transcendent recent animated films: Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). (Pat begrudgingly accepts but rediscovers a sliver of his long-lost innocence along the way.) Also, Jon’s PTSD flairs up after remembering the time he ate a Pittsburgh specialty sandwich, Pat relates some high drama from his fantasy basketball league, and Julia advocates for family planning by way of attending afternoon showings of animated films.

Ep. 39: Pat & Jon & Sydney & Ziggy Pt. II: Albums About Love [w/ Ziggy Schulting & Sydney Tennant]
Happy Pal-entines day! The guys welcome back Ziggy Schulting and Sydney Tennant (who agreed to come so as long as Pat doesn't mention Phantom Thread) to talk about their favorite albums about L-O-V-E. In this genre-spanning episode, the former couples attempt to describe one another's music taste—and they discuss some very special albums, from a Pittsburgh lad to a guitar-playing heartthrob to possibly the greatest album about infidelity ever recorded. Also, Pat is in the middle of his McConaissance. Live. Laugh. Love.

Ep. 38: An Oral History of Yo Soy Milk [w/ Johnny Murphy & Seamus Gildner]
Jon promised Pat he would finally stop talking about his college band on the podcast if they dedicated an episode to it, so the boys are joined by Jon's Yo Soy Milk bandmates, Johnny Murphy and Seamus Gilder, to discuss the trio's (in)famous presence in the Skidmore music scene. They talk about the varied response to their music, buying carloads of $2.99 six-packs at Stewart's for gigs, and their favorite songs/places to play. Pat gets inspired to learn the recorder!

Ep. 37: Saved! [w/ Aurelia Grierson feat. Pastor Pat & Youth Pastor Jon]
Gather 'round, friends: let's save them souls (and go to prom)! The boys are joined by theatre-maker and podcast host Aurelia Grierson (That Do It For Ya!) to discuss the 2004 evangelical satire Saved!. The group discusses palatial student housing and Mandy Moore—and Aurelia and Jon team up to try and explain the concept of religion to Pat.

Ep. 36: Cover Songs & Dining Hall Friends [w/ Leah Docktor]
The boys are joined by Skidmore pal Leah Docktor to discuss all things cover songs. They talk about what makes a great cover song, as well as how some covers are so great that they eclipse the original. Leah helps Pat with his ID Card, Jon is infatuated with Aubrey (yes, "Aubrey") Hepburn, and Pat didn't do any of the podcast homework.

Ep. 35: Back to the 80s [w/ Michael Zegen]
The guys are joined by their Skidmore College elder Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Stand In, Frances Ha, Girls) to discuss some of Michael’s favorite childhood movies that made him want to be an actor. They also talk fake Twitter accounts, the high-art of 80s family movies, and doomscrolling.

Ep. 34: Robert Pat-tinson [w/ Mia Vicino]
It’s a three-way tie between Patrick Stanny, Jon Lemay, and Robert Pattinson in the Battle of the Palest—so the lads are joined by Letterboxd scholar and film critic Mia Vicino (aka Brat Pitt) to discuss the highs and lows of Rob’s career. They talk the totemism of Twilight, the insanity of Remember Me, and the magnificence of The Lighthouse. For once in his life, Jon is out-chinned! Warning: there are major spoilers for the film Remember Me starting around 32:00, so if you don't want the insane ending of that movie to be ruined for you, we recommend you skip to around 54:05 of this episode.

Bonus Ep: 2020 Grab Bag / Pat's TV Appearance / Best Song of 2020
The guys just couldn’t stop podding! In the wake of their previous three-hour odyssey recounting their favorite albums/films of the year, Pat and Jon tackle a slew of 2020 albums, TV shows, and movies that some listeners and friends wrote in about! Also, Jon watches Pat kill two women (on television) and proceeds to critique his acting.

Ep. 33: End-of-the-Year Spectacular (Top 5 Albums & Movies of 2020 / Listener Call-Ins)
Lil Baby! Lil Uzi! Oh my! The boys saddle up to rank their top 5 albums and top 5 films released in 2020. They then sit down for an extended listener call-in segment in which they talk with some previous guests—as well some new friends! This episode has all the trademarks: Pat doing a horrific Irish accent (possibly for a Normal People dramatic reading), Jon being *that* music guy, and both boys extolling the virtues of Dudes Rock.
0:00 - Top 5 Albums of 2020
57:24 - Top 5 Films of 2020
2:00:36 - Listener Call-Ins, Gratitude
Thanks to everyone for an amazing 2020! We hope that we haven't been (too) annoying. It's beyond cliché to say that we have huge plans for the next year, but we do! Enjoying the podcast? Leave us a quick rating/review on Apple Podcasts!
Ep. 32: Newsies (or, Revenge of the Theater Kids) [w/ Julia Claire & Kate Willett]
The boys learn a little about the history of strikes and unionization through the rose-colored lenses of Disney as they are joined by comedians Julia Claire and Kate Willet of Reply Guys, a leftist/feminist comedy podcast. They discuss Christian Bale's insane accent, how eerily clean the streets of 1890s New York are, and how Disney portrays unionization (spoiler: not great!). If you have ever wanted to gang up on theater kids or have smiled when none of the kids from your college's theater department became successful, this episode will fill you with glee. Come for the discussion of a disastrous Disney live-action musical, stay for the definition of a "reply guy" and what it means to be "toxically online."
