EP 14: Dear Black Women, Trust Your Voice
Black women have been fighting the battle to be heard and seen for what seems like, since the beginning of time. And you would think with all that is going on with the call for injustice to end ( since slavery was abolished) that we would have made it by now. But, aht-ta-aht that is still not the case here in 2021. We are still fighting to be taken seriously when we say we are in pain, or need help at hospitals. We are still fighting to be seen in the corporate world, and we are even fighting to be seen and heard by the people in our lives.
What's it going to take for people to hear us when we speak? That we mean what we said when we said it. Like, "hey man, I said what I said."
This week Brooke and Phara discuss the power of trusting your voice in every area of your life and what can happen when you let you voice be silenced.

EP 11: Are You Ever Done Parenting?
This week on Single Moms Doing The Most, we ask the question "Are you ever done parenting?"
As your children get older parenting will evolve. You as parents turn into advisers, counselors, and consultants. But some parents have a hard time letting go and still see their grown adults kids; as people who still need parenting and guidance. In order to release responsible adults into this world, we have to cut the cord. Then there is the dynamic of children turning into parents as their mom and dad start reaching old age, a role reversal happens. So can you truly even be done parenting or does it just evolve as your children get older? Tune in this week to hear our thoughts.

Those of us actively in the dating pool know that meeting someone to love in real life can be a bit tricky. For some, dating apps can be awkward to begin with, so imagine mindlessly swiping across profiles only to find a friend’s partner on your screen!
Everyone wants to do the right thing when it comes to those they care about, but in a situation like this, it can be hard to decide what that might be. Ep:9 Can I Call Her Mommy ?
This week on Single Moms Doing The Most, Phara and Brooke discuss the bombshell question. Can your child call your ex's new significant other mommy or daddy? We both have strong opinions on what we think. Is it fair or harmful and how secure are you when it comes to your child engaging with other people they may see as a second parent?
Are there situations where this would be okay and what boundaries and parameters as a mom, can you set without making your child feel like they've done something wrong. It takes a village to raise kids we all know that, and coparenting is it's own beast. So how do we navigate such a sensitive topic? Join the conversation and share your thoughts.

EP 8: Dating:Love and the 'Rona!
Dating and finding love as a single mother can already be a tricky situation, so adding a global pandemic to the mix has shaken up the dating landscape even more. Prior to covid-19, the most pressing issue for a dating single mother was getting a sitter so mama could go out and enjoy dinner and a movie. Now dates are being vetted via FaceTime, Zoom and socially distant meetings in the park. What are the rules? Mask...no mask? Do you wait out the pandemic altogether to begin dating? Decisions about if and when there might be physical contact are evaluated much differently than in the past — because now our kids and other vulnerable relatives are part of the equation.
In this episode, Phara and Brooke discuss what their dating life has been like in the past year during covid, and what (if anything) has been beneficial about dating during a pandemic, or if it has made things that much harder. Can love be found in the age of The 'Rona? Let's get into it!
EP 7: We're Back!: Covid and Things
Brooke Dean and Phara Joseph are BACK! The global pandemic has taken its toll on EVERYONE, and we were certainly no exception. The impact on single parents brought many of us to our breaking point, but we've bounced back and are ready to share our Rona stories from the past year with you. We discuss how the pandemic has affected us personally and professionally, how we have learned to cope and what we've learned about ourselves over the past year. How have you been managing as a mother during this unprecedented difficult time? What lessons have you learned....about parenting, your child, or yourself in the past year? As single mothers, we have a lot of challenges and The Rona certainly didn't help. But we're also strong, resilient, creative and amazing! We share our Rona stories and we want to hear how you've been dealing as well.

EP 6: Self Love: Putting YOU First!
Self-love - it seems like such an easy concept to grasp. But what does it really mean to love yourself? It's more than self-care, or high self esteem. It's a journey that requires that you be intentional, dedicated and devoted to the practice of fully accepting and protecting your precious self at all costs. You are your most valuable asset, and how you treat yourself daily will impact you mentally, physically and spiritually. In this episode, we discuss how we should aim to love ourselves as if you were another person you love, that you have a relationship with. We share how we had to turn down the volume of our inner critic and choose to be our best cheerleaders. We want you to resolve to love yourself each and every day and watch your best self blossom and your greatest life unfold!

EP5: How We Conquered Stress and Shed the Weight!
If there is one thing that unites us as (single) mothers, it's STRESS. If that isn't the case for you - THEN GREAT!!! Consider yourself blessed! Unfortunately however for the rest of us, all of this excess stress can lead to an increase in weight. You may not notice it at first, but stress can slowly creep up on you, and the next thing you know is you're experiencing muscle atrophy, headaches, irritability and notice your clothes no longer fit. Overwhelmed, and out of control, stress can takes a toll on your physical, mental and emotional health. In this episode, we talk about how we conquered stress and achieved a 180 lb. weight loss between the two of us in 2019. We share our stories of what it finally took to get the stressors in our lives under control and to shed the weight that was literally and figuratively weighing us down. Listen to this week's episode and share it with 10 of your friends! And tell us how YOU de-stress and keep yourself happy and healthy - we always need inspiration!
Thank you for listening - we love you for sharing!

EP 4: You Are Never Out of Your Prime
At what age do you consider to be the "prime of your life?" Is there such an age? What is your definition of being in your "prime?" For some, being in their prime could be a physical definition related to their health. For others, it could mean their sexual prime. But being at your best, be it physical, spiritual or professional is all relative. You could reach your "prime" in your early 20's - or late 50's - and even reach several "primes" in your life as we continue to evolve and grow.
Your prime isn't some magical window that only comes around once in a lifetime with no rehearsals involved, so don't ever believe that you are "out of your prime" simply because you haven't lost the weight, gotten married, or have the career you thought you'd have by now. In episode 4, we want women, especially mothers, to know that your moment to be the person you always wanted to be hasn't passed you by. You still have time to be your best, look your best and have the most fun imaginable while doing it AT ANY AGE OR STAGE OF YOUR LIFE.

EP 3: Can Single Mothers Raise Remarkable Boys?
Parenting is a difficult job for most people, but raising a boy as a single mother can be especially challenging. I read a meme that says "It Takes a Strong Mom to Be a Father Too," but can a woman truly play the role of a father while also being a mom? In episode 3, we explore the gender roles mothers play as single parents while not discounting the need for a father figure in a son's life. While women are thought to be great nurturers for their children, single moms raising a boy are presented with unique challenges and opportunities to provide her male child with the strong foundation he needs to be grounded, connected and accepted. What is the mindset you must have as a mother raising boys? Do you feel a boy must have a strong father figure in HIS life as opposed to a man in YOURS? Join us this episode as we navigate the feelings some single moms experience in the absence of a father in her son's life and the parenting challenges that come with them.

Ep 2: Single Mom vs. Single Woman
The term "single mother" is one that is used all the time, but the meaning behind it might not be so black and white. For some, being a single mother is an indication of her marital status, while for others the term means she is the "sole" or "solitary" provider for her child(ren). Who defines it? And does there have to be a concrete term with a clear meaning? In episode 2, Brooke and Phara attempt to decode their definitions of the term "single mother." As these definitions leave women to rely on themselves to figure out what a single mom is, we may discover that there is no "real" definition after all.
