“Be yourself, and use your voice. You never know...Don’t underestimate how important your voice or presence could be for somebody else. People ARE watching...People ARE paying attention and maybe somebody will see or hear something you said and they’ll be inspired.” ~Ben Chan  **** Ben Chan, a graduate of New York Law School, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is the grandson of refugees and the son of immigrants. As Ben grew up in New York City during the 80s and 90s, he developed an interest and love of history. He read and was deeply influenced by the autobiography of Malcom which has shaped his present day desire to create genuinely inclusive running spaces . Ben endeavors to help runners who are trying to bridge the gap between the Black Indigenous People of Color running culture and the persistently white running world. He is grateful for Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi, the Black women who created the Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc (https://blacklivesmatter.com) and ignited a movement for the equality of  and justice for black and brown people all over the world. Ben is a living kidney donor and before surgery, Ben decided to lead a more active lifestyle to care for his remaining kidney. Since then, Ben has run several marathons and ultramarathons. E19: Healed by Faith, Fueled by Passion
“Typically, what I like to do, is I like to stay active and I have the philosophy that Motion is Lotion.” ~ Candice Caesar ***After an accident while on active duty in Germany, doctors told Candice that she would never walk again. It was then and there, that Candice was inspired to walk a marathon. It took many years of physical recovery, going from a wheelchair to walking with a cane before Candice would run her first road race. Even more than that, it took many years of striving to overcome depression before Candice was ready to set out on the road to physical fitness. Candice describes her faith as being vital to eventual success. While suffering through chronic neuropathic pain due to the injuries sustained by her accident in 1999, Candice, a walking quadriplegic, has run 26 marathons, and handcycled 11 marathons. Candice has qualified for the Boston Marathon four times consecutively times. She is a member of the Achilles International Freedom Team and has received three Golden Philipedes Awards from USA Track and Field. Candice is an archer, triathlete and soon to be 50 states Half-Marathon Finisher. E18: Keep it moving
“Run for you. Move for you. That’s the thing that’s gonna keep you going!” ~ Eric Logan. Eric Logan is an avid duathelete living in Thomaston, Ga, a small rural town about 60 miles south of Atlanta. He started running in 2013 at the age of 41. Since starting his journey, Eric completed his first duathlon in 2017 at the age of 46. He immediately fell in love with the challenge of the run-bike-run sport. He has competed in multiple Sprint- and Olympic-distance duathlons, including the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships in 2018 and 2019. In his spare time, Eric is a part-time fitness instructor. E17: Change is Inevitable
"Running has done a big change in my life. And whoever is a runner, it has changed their life, either physically, mentally, health wise, giving [you] encouragement and strength." ~ Mimi Tran**** Mimi is a busy optometrist,  who has watched children and their families grow through her practice. The families she serves in turn are inspired to run and achieve healthier lifestyles.  In her office Mimi has a state map in which she has marked off all 72 marathons she has completed since starting her running journey in 2016. She aspires to run all 50 states completing the 50 Marathons/50 States Challenge.  She has completed 48 Marathons in 48 States. Her plan was to complete the Boston Marathon as her 50th State Marathon as a part of the 26.2 Foundation (https://www.26-2.org) based in Hopkinton, MA.   Mimi enjoys all things Disney and loves participating in runDisney events around the world. At the age of 43, she decided to run her first 5k. Now equipped with a new sense of accomplishment, tackled her first half marathon in 2016. Mindful Moment: A Breathing Meditation

“If you think it’s possible, I’m pretty sure it is possible...so many things are possible. Often times we are just setting limitations.” ~ Liubov Lomonosova  After moving to the US with her husband in 2014, Liubov wanted a change in lifestyle. Liubov took the advice of her husband, and started running. When she started she could only run for short periods of time but Liubov persisted. Starting out in 2015, Liubov ran a 14:00/per mile pace and then after completing her first half marathon, she was inspired to try to qualify for the Boston Marathon. And, in 2018, she did just that! Liubov ran the Boston Marathon in 2019.
