The Stories We're Proud to Share

Meet PJ and Miyo. Coming from similar upbringings and cultural backgrounds, both have experience in the United States Armed Forces. Miyo joined the Navy at the age of 26 in 2007. PJ joined the army 12 years later in 2019 at the age of 27. With time in the military more than a decade apart, in this episode Miyo and PJ compare and contrast their experiences.

Meet Greg, Dee, and Makoy. They’re a group of gay Filipino friends who host their own podcast called GAM Chat, which stands for Gay Asian Male Chatroom, a nod to the days of America Online. In this episode, they discuss how their Filipino identities impact how they navigate the world as gay men. They also each share their version of how they all met!

Meet Austin Santiago and Dr. Vincent La. Austin is a Research Associate II in the Department of Surgery at City of Hope, a comprehensive cancer center near Los Angeles. California. Dr. Vincent La is doctor of medicine working in obstetrics and gynecology at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. Keep listening as they learn about each other and the roles they play as gay men in the healthcare system.

Meet friends Dr. Sara Miyo Hall Kennedy and Dr. Dustin Domingo. As classmates in graduate school, they discovered that they have a lot in common. They are members of both the Asian American and LGBTQIA+ communities. In this episode, they discuss how their cultural and religious upbringings impacted how they felt about their LGBTQIA+ identities.

Meet Dr. Kat Ringenbach and David Powell. Dr. Kat Ringenbach is a professor of psychology in Orange County, and David Powell is the Executive Director of the Desert Business Association (DBA) in the Coachella Valley. Both are parents with unique stories to share. Dr. Ringenbach, an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, opens up about her relationship with her daughters, one of whom has recently come out as asexual. Mr. Powell, with children from a previous marriage, discusses how his family unit and relations evolved after he came out.

Meet colleagues John Pervez and Jeff Foulkes. They have a lot in common as two gay men working together as higher education professionals.  They each have twin brothers who are straight. Jeff is married and John is engaged. In this episode, they discuss their coming out stories, how their families reacted, and what they learned from these experiences.
