32: The State of Remote Editing in 2021

32: The State of Remote Editing in 2021

This week, Damian talks with guests Zeke Margolis from Melrose Mac (melrosemac.com), Nick Anderson from creative.space, Vince Auletta from Parsec (parsec.app), and Bill Thompson from Signiant (signiant.com) about the state of editing in 2021. It's been a year since the start of the pandemic shutdown so we found it necessary to revisit the topic of Remote Editing. Specifically, we discuss how remote editing has become a semi-permanent part of post production life. We cover desktop streaming, locally hosted media solutions, sneakernet, multi-site synchronization, remote collaboration, cloud computing and cloud storage, and a host of other topics.

30: The PVC 2020 Camera Wrap-Up

30: The PVC 2020 Camera Wrap-Up

2020 was quite the year in many ways for everyone. As unabashed camera geeks, we saw 2020 not only as a year for lockdowns, working from home, and everything that was thrown at us, but also a year for incredible cameras announced and released. Make no mistake, 2020 was a dumpster fire. For cameras, though, 2020 was an outstanding year. This year included the release of cameras like the RED Komodo, the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K, the Canon R5, R6, C300 Mark III, C70, Sony FX6, Sony A7s III, and many more. In this podcast, we attempt to look back on the year of the camera and what it meant to be a filmmaker in uncertain times.

Kenny and Brian come from two different perspectives. Brian spent the year covering the events of 2020 from a photojournalist and videographer's point of view. In comparison, Kenny embraced new production workflows, live-streaming tech, and navigating working safely during a global pandemic. A common theme these two filmmakers found was the camera technology released in 2020 made life easier to be a filmmaker and to find one's voice. 2020 proved to be the year of incredible camera advancements.

27: Resolve 17 Beta, Lets Break It Down

In this PVC Podcast Scott sits down with PVC’s own Damian Allen to talk about the big new Resolve 17 beta. They are joined by Alexis Van Hurkman who literally wrote the book on Resolve as he is responsible for Resolve’s deep and expansive manual. The meat of this podcast is about one of Resolve 17’s signature features, the new Resolve color management. This is a topic that is often misunderstood but is important when it comes to proper workflow especially in an HDR world. They also touch on other new features in the Resolve 17 beta including the new color warper, the HDR Grade palette, Render In Place, Fusion as well as the new hardware control surface the Resolve Speed Editor.

26: NLE Battle Royale

This week, Scott sits down with versatile editors Oliver Peters and Tony Gallardo to talk about the "big 4" non-linear editing applications. They debate some of the strengths and weaknesses and talk about what makes the discussion of NLEs such a religious experience for many of those commenting on the internet. They discuss what has changed in remote editing, what hasn't and where we are now.
