PsA HQ Podcasts

By Mel

Hello & Welcome! I’m Mel from PsA HQ (PsA is short form for Psoriatic Arthritis linked to Psoriasis ) and I am a huge advocate for peer support which to me essentially means people connecting and sharing tips. And it's not just about PsA.. often people have more than one diagnosis to cope with! This channel is a place to share experiences and stories: People Speaking About... whatever it is that matters to them! All opinions are my own or those of the podcast guests. Always seek proper medical advice.

A medical expert's opinion on peer support value - with Dr Laura Coates

A medical expert's opinion on peer support value - with Dr Laura Coates

Hello - I'm so pleased you have joined me!  For this episode I thought it would be a bit different to ask a medical expert’s opinion on the value of peer support and how it can be helpful for people to speak to other people going through the same kinds of things so… I invited Dr Laura Coates, who is an Associate Professor at the University of Oxford to have a chat with me.  We talk about her opinion of the value of peer support, her special interest in psoriatic arthritis research and a few of the patient involvement projects she is currently working on. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed chatting with Laura  Why not let me know your thoughts & experiences so I can share them here in the pod-osphere. Here's a link to the UK PsA research focussed charity I mentioned :  BritPACT  (the British Psoriatic Arthritis Consortium) and another to the Psoriatic Arthritis Priority Setting project with the James Lind Alliance  You can get in touch via psazzgroup@gmail.com  All PsA HQ podcasts are simply a way of sharing viewpoints and opinions of the guests - they are our own and do not constitute proper professional or medical advice.

How Pat found our peer support group.... and why she stayed part of it!

How Pat found our peer support group.... and why she stayed part of it!

Hello again - it's lovely to have you join me. Here's another peer support themed chat for you to listen too - this time with Pat who is another member of our 'Support Rheum' group.  It's an interesting story as Pat didn't think she was really looking for peer support or wanting to be part of a group but after she found it, she liked it and she stayed part of it - result!   Just goes to show, sometimes trying new things can turn out to be more helpful than you might have thought ;-)

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed chatting with Pat.  Why not let me know your thoughts & experiences so I can share them here in the pod-osphere.

Peer Support chat with Amanda

Peer Support chat with Amanda

Hello again - I am so glad you've joined me!  In this episode I'm having another chat with one of my peer support friends - Amanda about why she looked for a group and what she feels she gets from being part of one.  I think her story about what she has gained and how it has helped her is another demonstration of why it's so important!

I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed chatting with Amanda. Once again, at the end of the podcast I'll share a way you can get involved with me here in the pod-osphere.

Welcome to the PsA HQ Podcast Channel

Welcome to the PsA HQ Podcast Channel

Hello & Welcome - I’m Mel from PsA HQ on instagram and twitter.   'PsA' is a short form term for Psoriatic Arthritis - a painful inflammatory condition associated with the skin condition Psoriasis but behind the condition are many inspirational and resilient people and this a place to talk about their stories and all the kinds of things that affect them -  not least how they manage in spite of it!   I've also learnt that sometimes these kinds of conditions don't come alone so we'll be talking about some of those things too. Over the last 15 years, I have seen how peer support and digital technologies are continuing to open up ways of sharing experience and how valuable they are as ways of helping ourselves and others.   I would love to hear from you and for you to join me on my podcast channel!
