Episode 46: The Mysterious Death of Maria Marta Garcia Belunce
After Abby and Ellie talk about the plights of fire academy training, teaching during the longest school year known to man and "adulting" nonsense (looking at you, Comcast Customer Support and the Department of Motor Vehicles) Abby dives in to the mysterious death of Maria Marta, an upper class Argentine woman who died in October of 2002. At first, it seemed like a terrible accident: a woman slipped, hit her head and fell in the bath tub. But how could she have slipped if her tennis shoes were still on? And why was she fully dressed if she was getting ready to take her Sunday afternoon bath? Oh yeah, and then there was a fake death certificate, cleaning up the crime scene too early and not following with the doctor's advice to call the police for this so-called "accident." Was this death really a terrible accident or a gruesome murder? And if it was, who could have murdered a sweet, charitable woman in a gated community? Episode 45: Cryptids Part III
Well, well, well, dear listeners. Abby and Ellie are doing Cryptids Part III! Before we dive in to creepy crawlers, we discuss driving the "wee-woo" truck, and an unfortunate Driver's Education circumstance involving a sighting of a possible cryptid (???). Then, with a dash of off-brand genitalia (grab a bucket and a mop, everyone) and some standard QFF tangents, we discuss cryptids, including, but not limited to: the Oklahoma Octopus (and why real Octopus are so dang creepy). the Lake Worth Monster and the Ozark Howler.

Movisode 14: House of Wax (2005) and Madame Tussauds Wax Museum
Abby and Ellie haven't seen each other for a WHILE in this episode, which is why our witty banter and updates last until about the 17:00 mark. Ellie discusses a hilarious fire chief and Abby whines about a short summer vacation that feels so far away. There's something for everyone in this episode: movie trivia, a roadkill pit?!, a throwback 2009 Folger's Coffee Commercial, some French Revolution history, and so much more we can't cram it all into the show notes!
Due to a misread text, Abby had to watch this travesty twice in two days so she considers herself an expert on the topic. Abby and Ellie discuss the big 2005 vibes of House of Wax. Juicy Couture velour sweat suits, Chad Michael Murry miscast as a brother instead of a boyfriend, Jared Padelecki pre Supernatural, Disturbed and My chemical Romance on the soundtrack, and more.
Then, Abby discusses the bloody history of Madame Toussad and her Wax Museum. We also, of course, in true QFF fashion, discuss the controversies that surround them: the royal family wax figures, whitewashed Beyonce, and an inaccurate depiction of Nicki Minaj just to name a few. Enjoy the spooky vibes and comedic relief we offer in this movisode and don't burn the house down when you stream House of Wax!

Episode 44: The Doomsday Clock and Carl Wanderer
Happy Combisode Day, dear listeners! This month, Ellie discusses her firefighting academy updates and then Abby talks about some good old fashioned Amish cookin'. From there, Ellie talks about her fear of impending doom by chatting about the history and timeline of the Doomsday Clock. Then, Abby talks about Chicago's first John Doe case, in which a man went back on his deal with a stranger resulting in a triple homicide. Find out why this bizarre crime was committed and whether or not humans will be the reason for their own downfall (spoiler alert: probably) on this episode of Queers for Fears!

Episode 43: The Acid Bath Murders (John George Haigh) feat. Marvin
Ellie, Marvin and Ellie unironically discuss soap for a while before we dive into a terrible bath (sorry, we couldn't resist). Abby's back at it again with the serial killer John Haigh, who killed 6-9 people in London during the 1940s. Haigh grew up with strict, religious parents and went against their fire and brimstone lectures because he never got caught in petty crimes. He escalated...quickly murdering people for their money to support his champagne taste on no budget and a bad gambling habit. Ellie and Marvin, of course, make their comments on the side about John, his life and his....hm...creative? Disgusting? Terrifying? Way of disposing of his victims (spoiler alert, in acid). What led to his downfall? Then, Marvin brings us home with some creepy politicians and their...circumstantial evidence of acid baths...As one does.

Episode 41: Junji Ito and The Survival Story of Victoria Cilliers
We're back at it again everybody! This episode we TURNT UP (does anyone say that anymore?) to celebrate our one year podiversary and celebrated being able to record safely in person together for the first time in six whole months. Ellie discusses the work of the Japanese manga horror artist and writer Junji Ito and Abby discusses one woman's skydiving experience. It was a horrible accident...or was it? Honorable mentions to our guest stars Jack and Marvin and our tangents on wisdome teeth and South African accents (just listen if you don't get it). Find out more on this episode of Queers for Fears!
Episode 40: We'll Never Be Royals: Racism and Controversies in the Royal Family
Oh boy, dear listeners. We really went hard in the paint on this meaty episode (Abby's trying to make "meatisode" a thing, but Ellie isn't buying it). Abby and Ellie discuss it all- from the monarchy's relationship with Nazis to 'Megxit'! Our topics include some royal controversies, scandals, the media's treatment of the royal family, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton and how the monarchy is.... *checks notes* bad... due to it being founded on imperialism and racist ideologies. Even Fergie isn't safe from our eyebrow raising and banter. So fill your cup and add one lump or two and join us at this spill-the-tea party on this episode of Queers for Fears!

Get ready for some bad jokes and heresy, dear listeners! In this episode, Ellie talks about cephalophores (AKA headless saints) and we are grossed out. Which cephalophore is your favorite?
Moviesode 12: The Leprechaun
What's luckier than finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? When your favorite podcast watches 1993's "The Leprechaun" so you don't have to! Come for the L.A. Gear sneakers, stay for Warwick Davis roasting Jennifer Aniston et al. while skateboarding. Plus some actual leprechaun lore - turns out they're neither particularly attached to green, nor prone to pogo-sticking people in the lungs.
Episode 37: An Olde Timey Murder and The End of the World
In our February combisode Abby talks about the 19th century murderer and conwoman Kate Webster while Ellie breaks down instances the apocalypse was discussed in history and/or supposed to happen and spoiler alert, didn't, at least for us.

Welcome to Queers for Fears!
Welcome to the QFF Family!
Moviesode 11: Lovely Molly
Abby and Ellie really wanted to talk about "The Devils" (1973) but do not trust themselves to pirate it properly, so instead, we found a possession flick neither of us had seen before: 2012's "Lovely Molly." Plus, Abby talks about a "real-life" possession story - and what each of us means by those scare quotes.
Episode 34: Combisode: the Lipstick Killer and Haunted Asylums
Abby and Ellie discuss another famous Chicago crime, the Lipstick Killer, and talk about what we really talk about, when we talk about haunted asylums.
Episode 33: Leopold & Loeb - Part 2
Ellie and Abby continue their deep dive into one of the most famous crimes in Chicago history.
Episode 32:Leopold & Loeb - Part 1
It wasn't until 1988 that a Northwestern University archivist realized that the law school had, at some point, been given a treasure trove of primary source documents - including the original ransom note - from one of Chicago's most famous crimes, committed in 1924. Ninety-seven years on, the names Leopold & Loeb ("the original affluenza teens" - Abby) are familiar to anyone with an interest in true crime or Chicago history. In this episode, Ellie begins her deep dive into the murder of Bobby Franks, drawing from author Nina Barrett's exhaustive 2018 book on the Northwestern archive materials, "The Leopold and Loeb Files."
Moviesode 10: The Boy II
Abby and Ellie discuss "Brahms: the Boy II" (how did they get Katie Holmes and Ralph Ineson for this??) and, more importantly, some real-life "haunted" dolls (including one doll who is not haunted in the sense of "ghost-containing" but in the sense of "has seen some shit").
Episode 31: Snow Hags, Sanatoriums, and Staten Island: a combisode
In a rare role-reversal, Ellie discusses a possible serial killer (to be fair, she thought the documentary she watched was about an urban legend) and Abby talks about personifications of wintriness in folklore from around the world (to be fair, extreme cold is also a serial killer, after a fashion).
Episode 30: Merry Cryptsmas and Happy New Queers
This episode has everything: unintelligible growling, rude horses with wine bottles for eyes, mad lads licking things, sacks of unsettlingly mysterious ashes, helicopter-assisted goatnapping, oddly relatable witches, drunk people setting things on fire, original Christmas music by Abby, and a partridge in a pear tree.* Happy holidays from QFF, and we hope you enjoy our Christmas Cryptids episode as much as we enjoyed making it.
(*partridge in a pear tree sold separately)
Episode 29: Scream Queens
Abby and Ellie talk about the history of scream queens and final girls in horror, plus why Debbie Rochon needs a girlfriend.
Episode 28: The List Family Murders
Ever since Ellie heard what this episode is about, she's been wondering, "where does a guy who killed his whole family get off being a sanctimonious prick?" Abby has all the answers this week on the Queers for Fears podcast.
Moviesode 9: Better Watch Out
Abby and Ellie tricked themselves into watching a Christmas horror movie that started out as a rated-R "Home Alone" and turned into a teenage "Funny Games." We've got Final Girls, Toxic Masculinity, Are the Heteros Okay?, and - is that the upsettingly hot guy from Stranger Things? A very merry moviesode to you.
Episode 27: Combosode: Sir Elvis? And, Arthur Conan Doyle has Opinions again (ugh)
Abby and Ellie discuss the unsolved murder of the Grimes sisters in 1950s Chicago and ghost ships from throughout time and space.
Episode 26: Creepypasta and the Slenderman Stabbing feat. Marvin!

Episode 25: Spooky Ohio - with Marvin!
Abby and Ellie are joined by special guest Marvin ("Terrible, Just Terrible," "Working Week," and "Midwest Nightmare") for some spooky Ohio history, courtesy of their adventures with the Cleveland Area Paranormal Society. We also talk about lucid dreams, Steve Buscemi, and that one Bass Pro Shop that looks like a pyramid, because — you know what, you'd better just listen to the episode, probably. CW for brief mention of suicide.
Moviesode 8: Orphan
Abby and Ellie discuss the 2009 film "Orphan," as well as some real-life stories of orphans who were not what they seemed.
Episode 24: The Vampire of Dusseldorf
Abby and Ellie discuss German serial killer Peter Kuerten, who was not a real vampire but honestly sounds way worse.
Episode 23: The Lottery Curse
Abby and Ellie discuss misfortunes that befall people who won the lottery, featuring cyanide, scammers, and swords (500 of them). CWs for substance abuse/mention of OD and intimate partner violence (right after the ad, for about 7 minutes).
Episode 22: Jim The Builder, a Hometown Piece of Shit, and Ellie as Scrooge McDuck
Abby and Ellie are joined by Wayne and Ashley from Slay Queens Podcast for a combosode featuring gay house-flipper ghosts, lesbian vampires, and the last guy on earth who ever should have been hired as an orderly.
