Reports of an attack on Pearl Harbor - President Franklin D. Roosevelt Declares War on Japan
To give you more perspective, by December 1941 the Nazis had already invaded and occupied a significant portion of France. This was 6 months after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union on June 22nd, 1941 in "Operation Barbarossa".
On December 8, 1941, President Roosevelt declares war on Japan, the day after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt gives a speech to a joint session of congress.
2 hours into the attack, a KGU reporter makes the only known live report of the attack by telephone to NBC in New York City.

Author James Baldwin Discusses Racism/Paul Weiss Debate Discrimination In 1969 America
James Baldwin has an open discussion of racial prejudice, civil rights activism and policing. Later in the episode Baldwin and Yale Professor Paul Weiss get engaged in a debate on the issue of racial discrimination in the USA.

James Arthur Baldwin (August 2, 1924 – December 1, 1987) was an American novelist, playwright, essayist, poet, and activist. His essays, as collected in Notes of a Native Son (1955), explore intricacies of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western society, most notably in regard to the mid-twentieth-century United States. Some of Baldwin's essays are book-length, including The Fire Next Time (1963), No Name in the Street (1972), and The Devil Finds Work (1976).
An unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, was expanded and adapted for cinema as the Academy Award–nominated documentary film I Am Not Your Negro (2016). One of his novels, If Beale Street Could Talk, was adapted into an Academy-Award-winning dramatic film of the same name in 2018, directed and produced by Barry Jenkins.

Janis Joplin appeared on The Dick Cavett show repeatedly during the last year of her life, taping her final visit on Aug. 3, 1970. This episode includes a live performance by Joplin on Cavett's show. This is a fascinating interview and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Janis Lyn Joplin (January 19, 1943 – October 4, 1970) was an American singer-songwriter who sang rock, soul and blues music. One of the most successful and widely known rock stars of her era, she was noted for her powerful mezzo-soprano vocals[1] and "electric" stage presence.
In 1967, Joplin rose to fame following an appearance at Monterey Pop Festival, where she was the lead singer of the then little-known San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company. After releasing two albums with the band, she left Big Brother to continue as a solo artist with her own backing groups, first the Kozmic Blues Band and then the Full Tilt Boogie Band. She appeared at the Woodstock festival and the Festival Express train tour. Five singles by Joplin reached the Billboard Hot 100, including a cover of the Kris Kristofferson song "Me and Bobby McGee", which reached number 1 in March 1971. Her most popular songs include her cover versions of "Piece of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Down on Me", "Ball and Chain", and "Summertime"; and her original song "Mercedes Benz", her final recording.
Joplin died of an accidental heroin overdose in 1970 at age 27, after releasing three albums. A fourth album, Pearl, was released in January 1971, just over three months after her death. It reached number one on the Billboard charts. She was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Rolling Stone ranked Joplin number 46 on its 2004 list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time[11] and number 28 on its 2008 list of 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. She remains one of the top-selling musicians in the United States, with Recording Industry Association of America certifications of 18.5 million albums sold.

John Lennon Interview April 1975 on "Tomorrow with Tom Snyder"
This is re-broadcasting of an April 1975 interview featuring John Lennon discussing his legal affairs. To give context at the time this interview originally aired in 1975, John Lennon & Yoko Ono were in the midst of a legal battle against being deported from the United States due to Lennon's very public anti-war views.
This interview was then re-aired December 9th, 1980 only hours after John Lennon had been shot & killed by Mark David Chapman the night before.
Tom Snyder gained national fame as the host of Tomorrow with Tom Snyder (more commonly known as The Tomorrow Show), which aired late nights after The Tonight Show on NBC from 1973 to 1982. It was a talk show unlike the usual late-night fare, with Snyder, cigarette in hand, alternating between asking hard-hitting questions and offering personal observations that made the interview seem more like a conversation.

Since the program did not have a regular sponsor like Suspense, it was subjected to frequent schedule shifts and lower production budgets, although Richfield Oil signed on as a sponsor for five months in 1950.
Despite these problems, Escape enthralled many listeners during its seven-year run. The series' well-remembered opening combined Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain with this introduction, as intoned by William Conrad and later Paul Frees:
"Tired of the everyday grind? Ever dream of a life of romantic adventure? Want to get away from it all? We offer you... Escape!"
Following the opening theme, a second announcer (usually Roy Rowan) would add:
"Escape! Designed to free you from the four walls of today for a half-hour of high adventure!"

Crazy Eddie: Part 3 - "You're On Your Own!"
US Prosecutors ultimately gained access to key documents in Israel which provided evidence of secret Antar family bank accounts through a treaty known as the Hague Convention. One account at Bank Leumi in Tel Aviv showed Eddie Antar, Sam M. Antar, Rose Antar (Sam M.’s wife), Mitchell Antar (Eddie’s brother), Ben Kuszer (Eddie’s brother-in-law), and Debbie Rosen Antar (Eddie’s first wife) as co-owners. Bank documents detailed almost $8 million in cash deposits from 1979 to 1983. This account was never disclosed on their tax returns and all deposits came from funds skimmed from Crazy Eddie.
In June 1992, Eddie Antar was captured in Yavne, Israel. That very same day, FBI agents arrested Mitchell and Allen Antar. There was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Sam M. Antar, Ben Kuszer, and other family members due to massive document destruction and statute of limitations issues. Instead, the SEC brought civil actions against them in seeking to recover ill-gotten gains.
Sam Antar is a convicted felon and a former CPA. As the CFO of Crazy Eddie, Mr. Antar helped mastermind one of the largest securities frauds uncovered during the 1980s. In June 2012, the Huffington Post named Sam Antar one of the 25 most dangerous people in financial media (“dangerous in a good way”).
Crazy Eddie: Part 2 - "The Chosen One"
From 1975 to 1980, Sam attended Bernard M. Baruch College and majored in public accounting. Eddie Antar and other family members believed that his formal college education in public accounting would help them execute more sophisticated financial crimes in the future. Therefore, the family paid his tuition as well as a full-time salary while he attended college. He continued working at Crazy Eddie at nights, weekends, holiday breaks and even summer vacation.
In 1980, Sam graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Dean’s List. The Antars were ready to take full advantage of his accounting education by making him Crazy Eddie’s de facto Chief Financial Officer. This position allowed him to execute more sophisticated crimes on behalf of the family.

Crazy Eddie: The Early Years
Sam Antar is a convicted felon and a former CPA. As the CFO of Crazy Eddie, Mr. Antar helped mastermind one of the largest securities frauds uncovered during the 1980s.
Today, Sam Antar is a forensic accountant. His primary work focuses on identifying and investigating public companies engaged in securities fraud by performing an in-depth (deep-dive) forensic analysis. He advises law enforcement agencies and professionals about white-collar crime and trains them to catch the crooks. His clients include government agencies, law firms, accounting firms, independent investment research firms, hedge funds, public companies, and other organizations.
Material from his blog has been used in investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and in class action lawsuits filed against certain public companies for improper accounting practices. In December 2008, Mr. Antar’s blog was recommended by the Journal of Accountancy. In August 2009, he testified as an expert witness on corruption for the New Jersey State Assembly Republican Policy Committee. In June 2012, the Huffington Post named Sam Antar one of the 25 most dangerous people in financial media (“dangerous in a good way”).

The Day The Music Died: September 18th, 1970 - Jimi Hendrix
Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the US Army, but was discharged the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the Chitlin' Circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers' backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played with Curtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals became his manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary".
He achieved fame in the US after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album, Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the US. The double LP was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album.
The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death in London from barbiturate-related asphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.

Civil Rights Icon Rep. John Lewis dies at 80 - Rep John Lewis’ Speech at March on Washington
Lewis, who as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) was one of the "Big Six" leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington, played many key roles in the Civil Rights Movement and its actions to end legalized racial segregation in the United States. He was a member of the Democratic Party leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives and had served from 1991 until death as a Chief Deputy Whip and Senior Chief Deputy Whip from 2003 to his death.
Lewis received many honorary degrees and awards from eminent national and international institutions, including the highest civilian honor of the United States, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Lewis died on July 17, 2020 at the age 80 from cancer.
