Endometriosis and Infertility

Endometriosis and Infertility

If pain wasn't bad enough for a woman to suffer, Endometriosis also causes Infertility in most of the women it affects. The questions Dr Apoorva Pallam Reddy and I have tried addressing in this podcast are:

  1. How does Endometriosis cause Infertility?
  2. How should a woman with Endometriosis take her fertility journey forward?
  3. Is natural conception possible or advisable in a woman with endometriosis?
  4. Role of Intrauterine insemination and IVF in Endometriosis
  5. Should endometriotic cysts be removed or drained?
  6. Should chocolate cysts be left untouched?
  7. Is there a role of medical therapy in Endometriosis and Infertility?
  8. Is the success of IVF the same in a woman with Endometriosis?

Some take-home messages:

  • Endometriosis is a progressive disease
  • Sometimes it may take up to 8 years before a diagnosis can be made
  • The symptoms do not correlate with the severity of the disease
  • Endometriosis causes infertility
  • Fallopian tubes are usually open in endometriosis giving a false sense of complacency that pregnancy can occur naturally
  • Endometriosis is bound to recure after both medical and surgical management
  • Treatment will depend on the age, the symptoms, and the need for fertility
  • Speak to your doctor about future plans and the pitfalls of surgery before getting a laparoscopy done.

Dr Apoorva Pallam Reddy is a Gynaecologist, IVF specialist, Laparoscopic surgeon and Aesthetic Gynaecologist from Bangalore. At a very young age, she has achieved the knowledge and expertise that’s enviable. We work together on many projects together including hosting a series called “What Women Want” on Instagram as well as an Academy for training young Gynaecologists in Infertility called International Fertility Academy. An oration at any conference is like the coveted guest lecture which is given by someone very very senior and is usually in the main hall of the conference where every delegate, Indian and foreign is listening. You could almost compare it to a lifetime achievement award. I am proud to say that Dr Apoorva is the young fertility expert in the country to have delivered this Oration at a national conference and that too 2 years ago.

Stem Cell Banking - Is it Useful ?

Stem Cell Banking - Is it Useful ?

Stem Cell Banking or Cord Blood Banking or Cord Banking as it called is the storage of the umbilical cord and the stem cells derived from the cord blood with the hope of using the same for treating various medical disorders.

What are these stem cells? Where are they present? Why this rush to bank stem cells at the time of birth if we already have stem cells in our body? What diseases are currently being cured through stem cells and are these only blood-related disorders? Will this really be of any use tomorrow or is this just a fad right now.? I am often asked these questions and more by my patients every day. I thought its best to put all relevant information into this podcast and my own thoughts on whether stem cell preservation should be done.

Foetal Movement Count - How, When and Why

Foetal movement counts are both reassuring as well as a means to bond with the unborn child. Despite having such profound importance, there are myths and misconceptions surrounding it. When does the baby start to move inside and when does a mother start to perceive the movements? Is it the same for 1st time and 2nd-time mothers? Should you keep the counts? If yes, how should you do it and from when? If no, then why shouldn't you and then how would you know if the baby is doing alright? What do these movements signify? What to do if the movements are less, what is the next step? The answer to all your questions lies in this podcast, so go ahead and click the button to 'play'.

Rebecca, Vaginismus and Botox - An 18 year Journey - In her own words.

Let me take you to a true story with this podcast. Rebecca met Vaginismus on her honeymoon. Now.. Vaginismus is not a person.. it's not someone she befriended.... No.. it's a medical condition! I'm not amazed some of you are unaware because it's hardly talked about. Yes, it's still quite taboo but a lot of women are walking hand in hand with it, trying very hard to break free from this alliance. It's an uphill road and the slope is steep. Vaginismus stems from physical and emotional factors. For Rebecca, it also affected her relationship. When Rebecca reached out to me and told me that she had tried but couldn't get rid of the problem we attempted Botox and it worked! I was so happy to hear that she could return to normal life and a normal relationship with her partner after 18 years of marriage! If you have Vaginismus please seek help and don't let it get you down. 18 years is a long long time! Still don't believe me? Let's hear it from Rebecca then!
