Usually parents are careful with their firstborns, and then they become more relaxed with their secondborns. They just find a routine the second time around. Then both children are raised to love each other and can do whatever they'd like with their lives.
Unfortunately, this is not the case in the Secondborn's dystopian society. Firstborns are absolutely cherished and treated as if they are fragile.
