His passion is a community that is unexplainable apart from the love and power of God.
In this conversation he talks about the dichotomy of doubt and faith and how waiting on God produces perseverance.
"I think that God is not in a rush to resolve all of our confusion, all of our pain, all of our hardship, all of our angst," he said. "Because perseverance really does have a work to finish in the human soul, and if God short-circuits that process every time, we miss out on maturity, we miss out on intimacy."
He also offers a theological approach to doubt by studying the life of Thomas and how that's practical to us today.
"Henri Nouwen uses this phrase 'wounded healers,' and I think that's the story of every apostle," he said. "It's the place that their deepest wound becomes the place of deepest fruitfulness in their life."
