Cancelled Cast: No Ordinary Family
The Overdue Leading Role for Julie Benz
This week Jonah tells Keeks the tale of the short lived ABC superhero series No Ordinary Family, starring Michael Chiklis and pod favorite Julie Benz.
Jonah discusses the special effects and what makes the story unique to the superhero genre. Something like open communication between family members and close friends about super powers was rare at the time. This show came out when many drama series, especially teen dramas, used secrets to drive conflict in their stories. Buffy was one of the few characters that had friends in on the secret, but her mother wasn’t brought into the fold until the second season.
What led to the cancellation of this series? Did ABC want to create a super series on the heels of Smallville’s 10 season run? Was the Disney subsidiary looking to dip their toes in superhero television after their 2009 acquisition of Marvel? Or, were low ratings to blame? Watch, or listen, to find out.
Things to Know about No Ordinary Family
No Ordinary Family was created by Greg Berlanti and Jon Harmon Feldman. Berlanti and Feldman also served as showrunners for the short lived series. The series starred the aforementioned Chiklis (Jim Powell) and Benz (Stephanie Powell) along with Kay Panabaker (Daphne Powell), Jimmy Bennett (J.J. Powell), Autumn Reeser (Katie Andrews), and Romany Malco (George St. Cloud).
This superpowered family drama debuted on ABC for streaming on Paramount + with Showtime on September 28, 2010 and wrapped April 5, 2011. At the time of the recording, the series had a Tomatometer score of 71 percent and a Popcorn Meter rating of 83 percent.
No Ordinary Family Synopsis
No Ordinary Family is a 2010 fantasy drama TV series that follows the Powell family, who gain superpowers after surviving a plane crash in the Amazon rainforest. Jim, the father, discovers he has super strength; his wife, Stephanie, gains super speed; their daughter, Daphne, can read minds; and their son, JJ, develops genius-level intelligence. As they try to balance their new abilities with everyday life, they uncover a deeper conspiracy involving others with powers.

If Smirks Could Kill—A Dexter: Original Sin Review
Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!
Jonah and Keeks brave the Miami heat to find out if Dexter: Original Sin lives up to the legacy of the Dexter franchise.
Keeks is a Dexterverse newcomer, and Jonah is a fan of the original series and the 2021 revival Dexter: New Blood. With eight seasons (96 episodes) of Dexter and 10 episodes of the revival, there is a lot of lore to cover, but the best part of a prequel series is that a newcomer can start viewing without the weight of show canon. However, there is a downside. Fan service and callbacks are lost to Dexter newbies. Jonah carefully navigated his responses to Keeks’ wild takes. He walks through show history without too many spoilers, so Keeks has just enough to keep him interested in continuing his Dexter journey.
And yes, your hosts take a moment to gush over Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni Sarah Michelle Gellar (SMG) and Julie Benz, both existing in the Dexterverse. Did you realize another fandom franchise Jonah and Keeks share is now part of this world? Here’s a hint, SMG appears in that franchise as well.
How does the show hold up? Will Keeks keep watching the show? Watch, or listen, to find out.

Stop Colonizing Sh!t: A Hellraiser (2022) Review
Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!
This week, Jonah and Keeks ask, “Why are we touching unidentified relics” while discussing the 2022 reimaging of the 1987 horror film Hellraiser.
Hellraiser (2022) is the first film in an attempt to revive the long-running, cult classic kicked off by Clive Barker. Eight different directors added to the Hellraiser mythos from 1987 to 2018. David Bruckner stepped into the 11th installment and brought some changes to the story. This remake saw additions to the design of the Lament Configuration, the puzzle box. This box is the key to summoning Pinhead and her cult of monstrous Cenobites. Pinhead and the Cenobites also received a design upgrade. Instead of leatherbound fetish gear, their nouveau couture is designed from their peeled flesh. This adds a level of grotesque discomfort to the character designs and the overall feel of the film. The most exciting upgrade came in the casting of Trans actress Jamie Clayton (Sense 8) as the High Priestess, also known as Pinhead. In the original story The Hellbound Heart, from which the original Hellraiser film is based, Pinhead’s voice is described as more feminine. This new casting of the character makes this version of the Hellraiser antagonist more in line with the original concept of the Pinhead character in the novella.
After a conversation about the casting of Goran Višnjić (E.R. and Practical Magic) as Roland Voight, the architect of the protagonist’s misfortunes, Jonah and Keeks find a way to bring the Buffyverse to the conversation. It’s not an episode of The Rewind Podcast without a good rabbit chase. But, the hosts get back on track to discuss the lore of the Hellraiser universe, the cursed monkey paw that is the Lament Configuration, and Keeks’ strong feelings towards the film's protagonist.
How did the hosts feel about the film overall? You have to watch, or listen, to find out.

Not Your Mama’s Interview with the Vampire
Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!
Jonah and Keeks travel to 1920s New Orleans to discuss the 2022 AMC series Interview with the Vampire, starring Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Eric Bogosian.
Trigger Warning
This episode was recorded before Michelle Trachtenberg's untimely passing. Michelle was mentioned during one of the hosts' rabbit-chase conversations. If you haven’t listened, please check out our episode A Tribute to Trachtenberg.
Interview with the Vampire (2022) is one the best examples of successfully racebending characters. The diverse team of writers naturally weaved the trials and tribulations of being Black in the South in the early 1900s into the story. The dynamics of race are present in every aspect of Louis de Pointe du Lac’s life including his relationship with Lestat De Lioncourt. Combine that with Jacob Anderson’s portrayal of Louis and the portrayal of Claudia by both Bailey Bass (season one) and Delainey Hayles (season 2), and you have all the ingredients for a compelling period drama with horror elements. The hosts get into this and Louis’ relationship addiction.
Jonah and Keeks continue to discuss character development, the world Anne Rice created, and what they would like to see as the universe expands.
Are Jonah and Keeks obsessed with this series? You have to watch, or listen, to find out.
Things to Know about Interview with the Vampire (2022)
Interview with the Vampire (2022) is an American, supernatural-horror, period drama based on Anne Rice’s iconic novel that follows Louis de Pointe du Lac’s epic story of love, blood, and the perils of immortality, as told to the journalist Daniel Molloy. The series was created by Rolin Jones, Friday Night Lights and Weeds, and stars Jacob Anderson (Louis de Pointe du Lac), Sam Reid (Lestat de Lioncourt), Eric Bogosian (Daniel Molloy), Bailey Bass (S1 Claudia), Delainey Hayles (S2 Claudia), and Assad Zaman (Armand/Rashid).
The AMC gothic horror premiered on October 2, 2022. Season two wrapped on June 30, 2024; the series was renewed for season three a few days before season two ended. At the time of the recording, the series had a Tomatometer score of 98 percent and a Popcorn Meter rating of 77 percent.
Interview with the Vampire (2022) Synopsis
In the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac lives in Dubai and seeks to tell the story of his life or afterlife to renowned journalist Daniel Molloy. Beginning in early 20th-century New Orleans, Louis' story follows his relationship with the vampire Lestat du Lioncourt and their formed family, including teen fledgling Claudia. Together, the vampire family endures immortality in New Orleans and beyond. As the interview continues in Dubai, Molloy discovers the truths beneath Louis' story.

What’s Happening in the World of "Sinners": Trailer Reaction
Welcome back to The Rewind
Jonah and Keeks are taking a week to regroup, but don’t worry. We’re leaving you with a trailer reaction to get you through the week.
Your hosts settle in to watch the second official trailer for the Ryan Coogler film Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld. And yes, Jordan is playing his twin…sigh. Is that a good or bad sign? You decide.
After many questions, mostly surrounding the mythology of this world and why a guitar had a dedicated closeup shot, Jonah and Keeks decided to watch the first official trailer. That trailer proved to be much tighter, and honestly, it felt like a completely different movie. The first trailer seemed to have fewer elements of “magic,” but it did highlight Jordan’s accent choice. Jonah and Keeks had thoughts.
Which actor did Keeks shade before learning about their “booked and blessed” status? Will Jonah and Keeks watch the movie? Watch, or listen, to find out.
Sinners Synopsis
Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

A Tribute to Trachtenberg
Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!
Jonah and Keeks took a break from the regular show format to celebrate the life and career of a millennial queen, Michelle Trachtenberg.
With roles like Dawn Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Harriet M. Welsch (Harriet the Spy), and Georgina Sparks (Gossip Girl) under her belt, Michelle was THAT GIRL. From commercials to television and film, she had a long, consistent career that spanned more than 30 years.
While the hosts didn’t cover all of her film credits, they spent time discussing some of her iconic roles, and charity work, and reading messages from her former colleagues and co-stars. Afterward, they reviewed the infamous Harriet the Spy revenge montage and a supercut of scenes from EuroTrip, Ice Princess, 17 Again, Gossip Girl, and Buffy.
Which of her roles do you think Keeks and Jonah loved the most? Watch, or listen, to find out.

Malbec & Mystery Meat: A Review of the Hannibal TV Series
It plays the podcast like it’s told, or it gets the hose again! That’s right, Jonah and Keeks hopped over to the FICTIONAL world of Hannibal Lecter to discuss the 2013 series Hannibal.
Before they dive into Hannibal, Jonah and Keeks fanboy over Charisma Carpenter’s TikTok video where she discussed the possibility of a Buffy/Angel rewatch podcast. After they chase that “rabbit” and discuss all the important things to know about Hannibal, the hosts dive into the series.
How did Jonah and Keeks rate the series? You have to watch, or listen, to find out.
Hannibal (2013) Synopsis

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Magic is Afoot with Vaseline on the Lens
Welcome back to The Rewind Podcast!Jonah and Keeks took a trip to the Archieverse to discuss the Netflix Original series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” After reacting to this week’s viral clip and revealing Google AI’s whitewashing of the history of Lake Lanier, Jonah and Keeks took some time to discuss the inconsistent reverse morality of the Greendale witches. They compared the newer and much gorier Sabrina to the fun Sabrina of our childhoods. You know, the one with the talking cat! The new series could have used a talking Salem.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Synopsis: The hour-long drama reimagines the story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult, and witchcraft, naturally. The new iteration is described in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit. All of this, and she’s 16 years old.

CancelledCast: Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

BEST FRIENDS & SLAYER BABIES
Buckle up for the podcast finale to end all podcast finales! On the first season finale of The Rewind, Jonah and Keenon are joined by their friends Jessica and Nikki, who are also longtime Scoobies. The duo watches the series finale of Buffy, “Chosen,” with Jess and, together, discuss how they feel about the story’s wrap-up, their favorite scenes, and the standout characters of the finale. And later, they’re joined by diehard Spike stanner Nikki for a fun quiz to find out which character of Buffy they would be...and the results are shocking.

The Hellmouth is Percolating
Jonah and Keenon near the end of their rewind of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as they cover the penultimate episode of the final season, “End of Days.” The Hellmouth is bubbling and all seems grim as the Potentials get blown to smithereens, but an ancient surprise weapon (that Jonah cannot pronounce to save his life) could be the key to everything.
Keenon: @thektwalker

Life Was The Villain All Along
In this break from their usual style, Jonah and Keenon explore the ups and downs of what is arguably the most divisive and controversial season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer — Season 6. From the groundbreaking musical episode to Willow’s addiction to the dark arts to Buffy and Spike’s all-too-relatable toxic relationship, this episode covers everything Buffy fans love (and hate) about this penultimate season.

Cancelled Cast: The Secret Circle
Sometimes a show comes along with a pretty rad plot, a super adorable cast, and top rankings on its network — but even still that’s not enough to keep it alive. Enter, the CW’s one-season series The Secret Circle. In this episode, Jonah covers the show that’s based on the book of the same name by The Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith, and helmed by TVD’s producer. Why did a series about a group of powerful young witches exploring their mysterious and ancient supernatural connection fail to survive past its first season, despite having all the makings of a successful run like other CW shows of the genre? The answer...might surprise you.

Cancelled Cast: Charlie's Angels (2011 Reboot)
If there’s anything we’ve learned from years of television, it’s that you never send a man to do a woman’s job. Keenon takes us on a full throttle ride through the 2011 reboot series of Charlie’s Angels. Why did this show crash before it ever took off? Was it really as bad as critics say or was it simply the victim of a misplaced network and a bitter old patriarchy?

The Gift, The Blood, The Glory
The pod duo watches and discusses the once-touted series finale of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, “The Gift,” where Buffy learns the true meaning of her gift. The episode also brings up some vital questions: like what does Buffy’s fashion choices in that final fight scene represent, and is Giles actually Constantine or just a low-key psycho?

The Minutiae of Death
Jonah and Keenon delve into the very emotional Buffy episode “The Body,” prompting them to share their own experiences with death and how people’s grief is often as unique as they are as individuals. *Warning: this episode contains very sensitive content and may be especially difficult for people who have lost a parent or guardian.*

Hush...The Rewind Is On!
Jonah and Keenon cover one of the most critically acclaimed episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, “Hush” — which brings a whole new meaning to the term silent treatment.

HALLOWEEN BONUS: Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus
Happy Halloween! As a celebration of one of their favorite holidays, Jonah and Keenon conjure up a Halloween classic — Hocus Pocus. They pick apart the bones of the film from scene to scene, sharing chuckle-worthy hot takes, fun facts, and their favorite scenes and characters.

The Freshman & Discount Gwen Stefani
Jonah and Keenon rewind to seaon one episode four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “The Freshman,” finding Buffy and the gang settling into college life. And everybody is finding their way, except for Buffy — who gets her a** kicked by a punk vampiress with tragic fashion choices.
