In order to make democracy palatable to the people, there are several illusions that must be maintained. The US must take measures to ensure these illusions are kept in place. Anyone who undertakes dispelling the illusions can be considered a 'difficult individual." As such, there is an admonition to remain ignorant in order to avoid the impact this knowledge may have on their physical and fiscal well being.

Davy goes to Daybreak Hill to settle out with Slickerty Sam and sends him down the Mississippi on an ice floe. Before the wedding frolic is over Davy finds out Slickerty Sam is back so he sets out to take care of him once and for all.
