EPISODE 22 : Pain is Not Normal

EPISODE 22 : Pain is Not Normal

You don't have to put up with pain.

It is not to be expected and something you have to deal with as you age.

It certainly isn't the price you pay for having an active life!

If you have pain, get it looked at quickly - it's far easier to get managed quickly when things are still changeable and pliable than it is when the pain has been there for months.

The journey from where we are now to where we want to be is different for everyone.

  • the level of input and support we require varies

If you want to get where you want to be  with your body, there are a whole heap of variables that need to be taken into account which affect not only where you start from, but also how you get there and where you go.

When you require guidance and help I have varying levels for support available:

  • Group programs with support
  • Assessments

Episode 19 : What Can You Do About Back Pain?

Episode 19 : What Can You Do About Back Pain?

There's nothing  can do for my Back pain, is there?  I get asked this  A LOT!

Mainly rhetorically as many already believe there is nothing they can do for their pain and they have to put up with it...  I'm here to tell you this isn't the case.

There is always something that can be done for back pain, but you need to know :

  • * why is it happening?
  • * what's the actual cause of it?  Until you know this - you cant change it.

Then you need to know:

  • * what's happening in your body?
  • * what patterns and habits has your body adopted?
  • * what compensations are in play that need to change?

Most of all - something that has taken years to accumulate and occur - needs 3-6 months to change.

WE can alter your pain very quickly - with a few days or a couple of weeks - but HOLDING it there takes work to alter your OLD HABITS.

This is the part that's relatively easy - but people find hard.

It's easy when you know what YOU need to do - not what your neighbour or friend or other with pain have done - but what YOU NEED.

Everyone is different.

We are just like cars - we all have something slightly different that we need to work on....

Episode 14 : Posture Types

Episode 14 : Posture Types

There is good and bad posture, but  posture is unique to individuals!

There is the 'ideal' where we are in the neutral space where the vertebrae and muscles work at their most effective and efficient, and then there's variants of posture types.

Kyphotic, flat back, lordotic, sway, scoliotic - we all have our own little quirks!

When posture starts to become a problem is when most people will want to start doing something about it.

If you're in the Pilates industry - this info may help guide you and get you thinking about what to do for clients who need or want to improve their posture and how to go about doing it.

Episode 13 : Can poor posture cause pain? IMO - hell yes!

Episode 13 : Can poor posture cause pain? IMO - hell yes!

there's a growing body of evidence that think that poor posture does not correlate with studies on pain..... which means  that when they have looked at people who have similar postures - it doesn't predispose you to 'have pain'.

In my 25 + years working with people in pain... I beg to differ.

Now whether that means they have been in pain and then adopted a different posture, or whether their poor posture has led to pain - that's up for interpretation...

I think personally a huge percentage of people who are 'static' these days will end up getting some sort of discomfort, and we need to manage that  - whether its preventative - and pushing better self care or reactive when there is already pain in situ.

So much so that I have a course on 'better posture'!

its aimed at those who want to do the work to address what they feel is an issue - so maybe you're hunched over, weak muscles, r maybe you are starting to get sore shoulders and they're tight, or maybe your back hurts of you sit for too long, or your hamstrings are tight and weak and your glutes and hips need work.

Whatever the reason - this online course aims to raise awareness, get you stretch and working 'against' poor posture.

And lets face it - who doesn't want to stand tall, look confident and get noticed!
