The Mysterious Order of the Arrow Leadership Training
There's a lot more that scouts can get out of the order of the arrow. Leadership training is a skill that needs to be developed with young people. National Leadership Seminars and Developing Youth Leadership Conferences are ways that Arrowmen can increase their leadership skills. 🌐 National Leadership Seminar Website: https://oa-bsa.org/training/national-leadership-seminar-nls 🌐 Developing Youth Leadership Conference Website: https://oa-bsa.org/training/developing-youth-leadership-conference-dylc For additional information and links mentioned in this podcast. Debunking the "One Hour a Week" Recruiting Claim as an Urban Myth?
We dive into the urban legend of Scouting only taking one hour a week. Where did this crazy idea come from? We debunk a lot of the misconceptions that arise from recruiting claims. Leaders know that this is not the case. We discuss in detail where this may have come from and how people misunderstood this claim. Many leaders know that a quality program requires training and dedication. Not all meetings are just an hour. Excellence in adult leadership takes a lot of work and it cannot boil down to just putting in one hour a week. Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Ddv7fE_e-yY

The Mysterious James E. West Fellowship Award

A Life Scouts' Procrastination Towards Eagle Scout
Many scout leaders are frustrated with life scouts procrastinating towards their goal of becoming an Eagle Scout. Many factors affect young people's choices regarding time management. Scout leaders and mentors need to teach basic time management skills toward the youth's achievement of their goals. Young people need to have the basic skills to manage their time with short-range goals to achieve larger long-range goals. The closer a scout gets to their 18th birthday the anxiety levels tend to go way up if they are not managing their time. All scouts must have all of the requirements completed before their 18th birthday otherwise they will not be able to become an Eagle Scout. Life rank scouts think that they can get some kind of last-minute extension or some kind of do-over. Life rank scouts end up aging out of the ability to achieve Eagle Scout for the rest of their lives with this misconception. Video: https://youtu.be/WIdv6RyEq7U

The Historic Trails Award
The Historic Trails Award is achieved by scouting units in recognition of historic activity on a historic trail. Hiking metals on specific trails can qualify for this group award. Typically Scout Troops can hike and camp along the trail to give service back to the historic society. There are only three requirements for the Historic Trails Award. There is a link to the national list here in the description.

From Youth Leader to Adult Leadership: 3 Essential Steps
The transition of youth leadership to adult leadership within a Troop is critical to the survival of the unit. Scout leaders spend an incredible amount of time training youth to pick up management skills. All too often they leave the Troop without ever being asked if they could step up as an adult leader. Developing a 3 step plan for the Troop to actively recruit youth for adult leadership positions. Mentoring and coaching the youth through leadership experiences readying them to take on the challenge when they turn 18. https://youtu.be/C9ryHinbLfc
