Shock. Anxiety. Anger. Fear. Complete disbelief. No one can imagine the distress of being told he or she has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Most people do not know the functions of the pancreas yet alone that it claims the worst survival rate of all cancers and is the most difficult to treat.  Becoming a member of our pancreatic cancer support group is a way pancreatic cancer patients can interact with other patients who have walked the same paths and already have first-hand experiences coping with pancreatic cancer. Talking with other patients about their experiences while sharing your own will reduce stress.  Our pancreatic cancer support group moderators are pancreatic patients and will often be assisted by highly acclaimed medical experts specializing in pancreatic cancer. Medical professionals will frequently lead specific topics of special interest that will enhance the overall wellness of each patient.  The support meetings are held virtually online. Any special topic discussions led by our medical partners will always be announced ahead of time. Open forum discussions will occur at every monthly session and will include what to expect during and after treatments, how to manage side effects, and how to improve communication with healthcare providers.  Support group members will have extended memberships in our Facebook Group Forum where all members can participate in open discussions and with questions and answers. Our Facebook Group Forum is available every day, 24/7. Monthly virtual sessions combined with our Facebook Group promote a sense of control leading to a positive outlook on how to cope with pancreatic cancer.

Nashville Singer Songwriter Alyssa Bonagura Talks Pancreatic Cancer Research and Advocacy

Nashville Singer Songwriter Alyssa Bonagura Talks Pancreatic Cancer Research and Advocacy

ALYSSA BONAGURA  A fixture on Nashville's Indie singer-songwriter scene - Rolling Stone Stunning, Original, A Future star in the making. - Robin Gibb  One listen and it becomes crystal clear that Alyssa Bonagura was born to make music. With a voice that touches somewhere deep inside, Alyssa’s soulful sound and powerful lyrics will send you jet-setting into a broad range of human emotions. Growing up on the open roads of America, with her RCA country recording artists parents, Baillie & The Boys, made it impossible for Alyssa not to witness the power and magic of music. At just 3 weeks old, her cradle was the gentle rocking of a tour bus. Her play ground encompassed sound checks at fairs and festivals and back stage dressing rooms at a slew of different venues including the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Award shows, and her “extended family” consisted of managers, promoters, roadies, musicians and other fellow mainstream country artists.   At the age of 3, Alyssa performed on the Ralph Emory television show, Nashville Now. Where her version of the Leslie Gore classic; It’s My Party brought the house down in front of millions of national viewers. At age 10, one of those major acts, Kenny Rogers, decided Alyssa was the perfect child singer to record a duet with him on his Christmas CD, Christmas From The Heart. By age 13, Alyssa had her first batch of songs written and received an endorsement from Gretsch Guitars. She had figured out her own unique style of guitar playing with open tunings inspired by Joni Mitchell. By age 16 she landed her first 50 date tour opening up for Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives. It soon became obvious that she was the real deal, not only as a musician and singer but as a prolific songwriter as well.

A Conversation with 2021's Miss Arizona Amber Barto and Roger E. Magowitz About Pancreatic Cancer

A Conversation with 2021's Miss Arizona Amber Barto and Roger E. Magowitz About Pancreatic Cancer

A Conversation with 2021's Miss Arizona Amber Barto and Roger E. Magowitz About Pancreatic Cancer  Episode 15  Barto’s journey in pageants started when she was 15 years old. She first served as Miss City of Maricopa’s Outstanding Teen in 2013 and went on to serve as Miss Arizona's Outstanding Teen in 2014. After competing in the Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition in 2014 and serving as Miss Scottsdale in 2019, Barto aspired to represent the state on an even bigger scale.  “Stepping on that stage was a dream come true. Competing for Miss Arizona was something I waited for for about seven years,” Barto said. “When my name was announced as Miss Arizona, it was surreal and just felt like such a full-circle moment to be there and standing on the Miss Arizona stage. It's an experience unlike any other, being given that opportunity.”  In addition to winning the Miss Arizona title, she also won the preliminary talent and red-carpet evening wear awards as well as the quality of life award for her social impact initiative, Leadership Through Service, which encourages youth to become involved in community service by bringing awareness to different causes and nonprofits. As part of this initiative, she has helped raise over $300,000 to benefit local charities and has volunteered more than 1,000 hours annually. As Miss Arizona, Barto said she hopes to continue inspiring community service participation, specifically within local youth populations.  “I would love to travel the state of Arizona and do a full school tour to talk about the importance of community service,” Barto said. “With younger kids, it's really about instilling that concept of empathy and selflessness while teaching that giving back is something really incredible. I also want to help people find causes that they’re really passionate about.”  The 23-year-old has lived in Arizona since she was 5 years old, growing up in the city of Ahwatukee. She has been an avid dancer since she was 2 and has won many awards, including an Olympic-recognized gold medal with the Arizona State Dance Team.  Barto serves as the communications director for the Phoenix affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, where she coordinates local media coverage and social media and advocates for funding and research initiatives.

A Podcast Conversation with a Passionate Fighter Against Pancreatic Cancer Stan Vitikas

VOICE OF PANCREATIC CANCER PODCAST - EPISODE 13

A Podcast Conversation with a Passionate Fighter Against Pancreatic Cancer Stan Vitikas

Stan is a long-time advocate for fighting pancreatic cancer. He also is a patient liaison volunteer, offering emotional support to newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer patients.   Stan became an advocate and fundraiser for the Seena Magowitz Foundation after he was moved by Roger Magowitz’s call to action: “If not me, then who?” Stan said he’s “been lucky enough to survive, so if not me, then who could I ask to step up and raise money for this cause?”   Stan credits what he calls the “four Fs” for navigating the post-cancer journey: “faith, friends, family and fitness.” He is grateful for his faith and the support of family and good friends during a difficult time in his life. “I’m very lucky,” he said.  Cures Follow Money  Here’s what Stan says he’s learned in 10 years of advocacy:  Progress and cures follow money:  Polio eradicated through research funded by the March of Dimes campaign. Breast cancer: 91% five-year survival rate today driven by billions of dollars in research funding. HIV: now mostly a chronic, survivable disease due to massive U.S. government funding; Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: survival rate grew from 4% to 90% today resulting from the efforts of Danny Thomas and the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  “My hope is that countless others will continue to donate or help in any way possible. With your help, we can win this fight”
