Join us as we discuss one of the most debated topics in equine behavior today - Positive Reinforcement vs Negative Reinforcement: Which do horses prefer?

In this episode we review articles covering training using some of these methods as well as the differences (& implications) of rule governed behavior and contingency shaped behavior (update - horses can only do one of those!). We also discuss how extinction bursts could look different for positively reinforced behaviors compared to negatively reinforced behaviors. We wrap up with a reminder that these consequences are not mutually exclusive and that when used correctly there is nothing wrong with either of them!
