The Ultimate Measure of a Man..Shaundell

By Shaundell Newsome

A man wants to achieve, be responsible, successful and treated with respect. The truth is we achieve those things through adversity and how we deal with it. Adversity is inevitable. Don't act like it's a surprise and you will go a long way.
I Corinthians 13:11-12 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. [12] For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

The Ultimate Measure: Tribute to Bobby Newsome

The Ultimate Measure: Tribute to Bobby Newsome

My father Bobby Newsome was a Vietnam War Veteran, an incredible dad, a dedicated husband, a Black Panther and historian of African American culture. He grew up in the projects of Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. He came from an loving home of parents. But, the dysfunction stemming from alcohol abuse and domestic violence conflicted with that love.

Bobby decided to break the cycle of poverty and destruction by teach his five sons and two daughters a new way of life. As his oldest son I had to become a model of what my father wanted from us. He wanted his sons to become great family men, providers and faithful Christians.

The Brand of the Black Man Part II

The Brand of the Black Man Part II

The image of the Black man needs a branding campaign. We are not only gifted physically. But, we have extraordinary gifts beyond our physical strength. The responsibility for this brand lies within the African American community. However, we need everyone to start telling a different story about the Black man. It has not been accurate. In fact throughout history Black men who are inventors, pioneers and major contributors to American history have been omitted from history books and added as a "throw in" during Black History Month.

This podcast will give you insight into why the branding problem exists and what can we do as society to fix it. In addition, we want to change the narrative permanently.  While I think the tragic murders of our young black men needed to get media attention. I do believe that we are lacking in coverage of the great black men who are not dealing with the law in a negative way. That fuels the image of the Black man being someone who is always in handcuffs and in trouble with police officers.

We have to be the change that we want to see in the Brand of the Black Man.

The Brand of a Black Man Part I

The Brand of a Black Man Part I

This episode talks about how the Brand of a Black Man plays a role in how people view African American men in America. Unfortunately, the brand was intentionally developed to keep a race of people from gaining equality. Similar to how in the Bible Pharaoh wanted the Israelite boys dead because he feared that they would grow up to fight against him. He wanted to keep them in slavery. This translates to what has been done to Black Men in America. Keeping them powerless through incarceration, ignorance and generational dysfunction.

In America, one-third of the households are fatherless. In America almost eighty percent of the Black households are fatherless. Does that sound familiar? Pharaoh's methods worked centuries later in the country that celebrates freedom. Since slavery Black men have been brainwashed to believe that were inferior to everyone else. They were beaten on a daily basis by white slave owners and sometimes black slaves who were close to the master. They had to watch as their wives and women were raped by their masters. And in many cases children were born that were not theirs. Imagine what that would do to the mind of a man.

This podcast is not about bitterness or hatred. It's about awareness for Black men, Black Women and even the white people who actually want to learn about why Black folks are angry. It may help law enforcement and others empathize with Black men because they understand the fear or aggression that Black men have when they are arrested or challenged as a man.

Once you understand the Brand of a Black Man you will find that the stereotypes are not true. We are not irresponsible, lazy and uncaring. We are not abusive to our women. A real Black Man has more love than hate. He has more faith than doubt. A real Black Man is universal and can work with all cultures because Africa is a diverse continent.

I hope that you enjoy The Brand of A Black Man Part I.

The ABCs of Measuring A Man

The ABCs of Measuring A Man

Shaundell explores the reasons why men have challenges in becoming the man that they want to be. Typically, it's because they don't know where to start. The single mother raising a young boy wants to know how to raise him to become a man. The wife who wants her husband to become more of a man don't know how to help him evaluate himself.  The young lady that is dating a man is wondering why he won't "grow up".

This episode gives some insight into everyone's questions about a man. Of course, this is one man's opinion. But, as a man Shaundell has been to the school of hard knocks when it comes to being measured. This podcast will enlighten the lost man, encourage the single mother raising a boy and help relationships when men finally discover how to become a commodity at work, home and in the community.

Remember, it's not comfortable doing self reflection. Men don't want to be told that they are not measuring up. But, remember "The Ultimate Measure of A Man is not where he stand in times of comfort and convenience; But where he stands in time of challenge and controversy." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If only that man can get past the comfort and convenience to mold himself for greatness.
