Consent...and the women left behind with Cheryl and Quin

Consent...and the women left behind with Cheryl and Quin

When it comes to consent, who are the people, that are often left behind in these conversations? In my opinion, these women are sex workers, and their stories of consent are unique. Today we're speaking about how financial services discriminate against sex workers and the nonconsensual and fraudulent repercussions that this may have on consensual sex. And, not just that, but we're also looking at how authorities and councils could be using aggressive techniques to gather evidence against unlicensed establishments and putting sex workers in dangerous situations. Our guests on this final episode of Shut Up She's Talking for 2020, are Cheryl Overs and Quin. To find out more about Sex Work in Australia, Victoria and the activists fighting for reform, head to sexworklawreformvictoria.org.au and follow them on social media; Twitter & Facebook: @SWLRV

Women in Translation with Intan

Women in Translation with Intan

August is the month the literary world celebrates Women in Translation! Only 3% of the literature circulated in the English-speaking world is translated, and some researchers say that of the 3%, only 26% are works written by women. On today's Shut Up She's Talking we sit down with Indonesian author Intan Paramaditha who is a woman in translation herself. We speak about Intan's own literary successes, the importance of stories without borders, and how crucial women's translated works are to decolonising the feminism, gender and education that we know today. Women in translation; Intan Paramaditha - Apple and Knife & The Wandering Jokha Alharthi - Celestial Bodies Duanwad Pimwana - Bright Who Intan loves to read; Tiffany Tsao - The Majesties Jenny Zhang - Sour Heart Sharlene Teo - Ponti Email: shutupshestalkingpodcast@gmail.com Insta & Facebook: Shut Up She's Talking Podcast Artwork by Lilico Matsumoto

The 53% with Leah

The 53% with Leah

Some 53% of white women voted for Trump. The 2016 race for the President of the United States was supposed to divide the genders. Women would vote for Hilary Clinton and men would vote for Donald Trump. That was the idea. But, instead, the vote split women by race, education, geography and marriage. While 94% of black women voted for Clinton, 53% of white women voted Trump. Why? Today, Alice speaks with Sociologist Leah Ruppanner, who has discovered some fascinating voting patterns of white married women in the US. "Sex Work is Work" with Lisa

"Sex Work is Work" with Lisa

Happy International Sex Workers Day or, happy International Whore's Day - whichever one suits you! On the 2nd June 1975, sex workers in France made history, and the world watched as they fought for liberation and justice. Today, we celebrate and speak to Lisa, a retired sex worker and fierce activist who fights for law reform in Victoria, Australia. Lisa shared her story and history with us, and her fight for full decriminalisation of sex work. Celebrate the day by educating yourself about the sex workers in your community who fight for their rights. And, take a moment to consider Lisa's fight for full decriminalisation in Victoria too; https://sexworklawreformvictoria.org.au/ https://sexworker.org.au/ http://www.scarletalliance.org.au/ Email: shutupshestalkingpodcast@gmail.com Insta & Facebook: Shut Up She's Talking Podcast Artwork by Lilico Matsumoto
