On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we talk everything from this Sunday's Money in the Bank pay-per-view to WWE creative battling it out with Vince and losing.
Episode 9 of the show will cover a number of topics including a look at Money in the Bank, news updates out of WWE' Raw and SmackDown episodes, the battle that seems to be waging between WWE Creative and Vince McMahon, AEW announcing their new television deal with TNT and WarnerMedia, the Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia and more.
Beyond the aforementioned topics, Bray Wyatt went very dark in the latest episode of the FireFly Fun House and Jim wonders if, at the rate WWE is moving up his transition into the evil side, if WWE should have teased Wyatt for Money in the Bank to counteract the certain shifting from the pay-per-view to Game of Thrones on Sunday. Brandon wasn't sure it would matter considering how little build-up there's been for Money in the Bank.
Either way, we went through our picks for the matches.
We moved onto Lars Sullivan and his $100K fine by WWE, we chatted the creative direction of WWE and apologized to the writers for giving them so much heat when it's clear Vince is behind the issues fans are watching on tv each week. And, we talked Goldberg vs. Undertaker.
On this week's episode of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we try to be positive, but it's hard with the new WWE Wild Card Rule.
Episode 8 will cover a few things including the new FireFly Fun House video, Daniel Bryan and Rowan winning the SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles, and WWE's Creative Writing video. But, most of the show will center around the Wild Card Rule.
The Wild Card Rule almost completely eliminates the need for the Superstar Shake-up and with WWE so confused as to how the rules should be put in place, it's no wonder the company is being dragged through the mud by fans and ratings are sinking like a stone.
On this week's episode of The Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, (Episode 7) we're focusing on Dean Ambrose dropping a viral video bomb on the wrestling world with his new Jon Moxley promo, the second episode of The Firefly Fun House with Bray Wyatt and Money in the Bank.
This week, the critical consensus was that Raw and SmackDown Live were not good offerings. The writing was stale, the matches poor and the storyline details sketchy at best. That said, there were a couple saving graces for wrestling fans.
First, the second episode of Firefly Fun House came out with Bray Wyatt and, like the first, it was captivating. A bit of a different tone this week, it was must-watch programming and easily the best part of Monday and Tuesday's show.
Second, Dean Ambrose's contract expired at midnight on the 1st of May and within minutes, he had a video out that took the Internet by storm. He was no longer Dean Ambrose but was back as Jon Moxley (Mox) and there was assumed symbolism throughout the video that has everyone guessing as to what's coming next.
On this week's episode of The Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we're focusing on Sasha Banks, Bayley, the Superstar Shake-up and Firefly Fun House.
Even though Raw and SmackDown Live were still dealing with the Superstar Shake-up and changes to their plans from the week before, most of the buzz this week in wrestling surrounded Bray Wyatt and his new Firefly Funhouse. And the incredibly viral video that has the WWE Universe on opposite ends of the spectrum has fans wondering what's coming next.
Some fans loved it, some hated it, but everyone has an opinion.
On this week's podcast, we talk all about the Superstar Shake-up and how it appeared WWE just sort of threw it all together. What did you think?
On a busy week in WWE, there was a lot to talk about. From the drama that was Sasha Banks apparently taking her ball and going home and Luke Harper sharing on social media that he's asked for his release, WWE aired two live shows where a ton of names switch brands, setting the tone for what should be the rest of the 2019 calendar year.
In this edition of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we talk all things post-WrestleMania 35. From results of NXT Takeover: New York to WrestleMani 35 results and the Raw and SmackDown Live that followed. Plus, what's going on with the Superstar Shake-up which starts next week?
On this special edition of the Smart Marks of Wrestling, we take a look at the entire WrestleMania 35 card and try to predict the winners of all 16 confirmed matches.
Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal
Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship
Triple H vs. Batista in a No Holds Barred match; if Triple H loses, he must retire as a wrestler
Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
Bobby Lashley vs. Finn Balor for the intercontinental
Shane McMahon vs. The Miz in a Falls Count Anywhere match
On Episode 3 of the Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we talk all about the final moments, news and rumors leading into WrestleMania 35.
On this week's show, the big news heading into WrestleMania is that the Usos have apparently signed a contract extension with WWE. What does that mean for their title match on Sunday? Also, AEW announced that they've finalized their commentary and behind-the-scenes crew, the big get being Jim Ross on what is described as the largest commentary contract ever handed out in wrestling history. It's almost like AEW was trying to steal a little of WWE's thunder...
We discuss the John Oliver HBO tirade that called out Vince McMahon and WWE's response, news on Rey Mysterio being injured on Raw, other rumors of the week and both of WWE's flagship shows, Raw and SmackDown Live leading into Sunday's pay-per-view.
Also, we show our appreciation for Amazing Red who announced his retirement on Wednesday.
On the second Smart Marks of Wrestling Podcast, we chat with Greg Valentine and The Genius about 350 Days the film and today's wrestling landscape.
Jim and Brandon start the show this week by chatting all things WWE news, including developments on Charlotte Flair winning the SmackDown Live Women's Championship just days before WrestleMania 35, what it means that Triple H has agreed to put his career on the line in his match with Batista and the Tag Team Gauntlet Match that finally cemented Kofi Kingston as part of the WrestleMania card.
Here's how the show minutes break down:
News: 0:00 - 43:08
Interview with Greg "the Hammer" Valentine - 43:09 - 1:11
Interview with "The Genius" Lanny Poffo - 1:11
During our interview with Valentine and The Genius, we asked about their involvement in the 350 Days film and what it was like back in the day and how they felt as they were sharing their stories. Both had interesting tales from their days on the road.
Poffo mentioned that it was easy to get caught up in the lifestyle and that if he could give one word of advice to anyone, it was to try and remember, the only thing real about wrestling were the miles and the money. It was about saving and investing.
For Valentine, he recalls traveling a lot by himself, trying to keep his family together while others were unable to do the same. He recalls days on the road with Roddy Piper and Ric Flair and how the cards he wrestled on used to be about who was in the main event. Now, it's all about branding the name WWE.
The interview with Valentine takes an interesting turn part way through that you'll want to watch for. He's not a fan of the current product and he had some thoughts on the state of wrestling today, including women's matches. Considering WWE is about to offer a main event at the biggest show of the year that includes women closing the show, his comments are not likely ones that represent the majority. This is an interview you can't miss!
