Episode 19 - An anthropology PhD on the effects of dyslexia and do you think in pictures or words? With Thom

Thom is a 3rd year PhD student. His research focusses on interviewing students with learning disabilities and their parents to find out how it has impacted their schooling and studying experience, social class and how that informs education policy.

We also discuss whether we think in pictures or words. Wait what?! So you mean to say some people have an internal running monologue while others see pictures, colours and feelings instead!? Mind blown!

Episode 16 - Flipping the coin: Amazing Supervisor Stories Submitted by Students

Episode 16 - Flipping the coin: Amazing Supervisor Stories Submitted by Students

In stark contrast to the last episode, we flip the coin and discuss some positive supervisor stories submitted from students. Its so uplifting and empowering to hear about supervisors who are more mentor and friend than scary boss and those who know how to balance their time to prioritise students and their mental health (amongst other great things mentioned!) We know no ones perfect - heck students definitely aren't perfect but its so important to find a supervisor you work well with that supports you! And if you look around carefully you may find that one diamond in the sea of pebbles.

Episode 8 - Animal & Human Ethics in Research

Episode 8 - Animal & Human Ethics in Research

In this episode we present two case studies of horror experiments and discuss how far ethics in medical research has come since then. While the main purpose of medical research is to generate new knowledge, this goal should never take precedence over the rights and wellbeing of individual research subjects - human or animal.
