Songs in the Wilderness - Sam Baker - 2021-07-07
On this Season Finale of Songs in the Wilderness, Diane Redmond speaks to Sam Baker, Co-Founder and Director of Catholic Man UK. Sam is a husband and father and on a quest to discover and live out authentic masculinity as ordained by God and upheld by the Catholic Church. He is a self described Lover of God & the Faith, of family, fraternity, good whiskies, fragrant tobacco, stimulating reads, conversing, hill-walking, power-lifting, and various combinations thereof.
Action is at the heart of Catholic Man UK. Men must be single minded in pursuing the mission of authentic Catholic manhood – love of God, self-knowledge and self-discipline in the virtues, leading us to perfect our primary duty of sacramental and sacrificial fatherhood. And we must pursue this mission in physical groups alongside good Catholic men, who we can imitate and encourage, sharing in the sonship that comes from sharing the Eucharist. And, writes author and psychologist, G. C. Dilsaver, “in such company [we] will discover inspiring examples of men of virtue and the dynamic of positive Catholic peer pressure… as [we] strive to develop the strengths of Catholic manhood”. When men live out this mission, we will lead our families to Christ; then we and our families will bring the life of Christ into the world. Please check out more at their website: www.catholicman.uk

Songs in the Wilderness - Stuart Holt
Songs in the Wilderness - Stuart Holt
Join Diane Redmond as she speaks to Reverend Canon Stuart Holt and he shares with us songs that have influenced his faith journey.
Revd Canon Stuart Holt has been an ordained Anglican priest for 33 years and is also a former teacher. He is a hospital chaplain and author of Ben and The Time Globe and Puppets in Praise (Harper Collins,1993). He has recorded and performed his spiritual songs throughout his ministry as a parish priest and performs in a group called The Rockin Revs. The songs are based around the experiences of life in ministry and evangelism. Stuart feels called to revive this theme and to develop the music for a stage production.
Stuart has performed the Bride with a band of musicians in a number of places during the 1990s and he feels it is an important theme to engage with and has a mystical attraction which Christians can engage with… we are the bride of Christ… the church! The recording of the bride songs was made with a variety of friends.
Songs in the Wilderness - Hugh Duncan
Songs in the Wilderness - Hugh Duncan
A little bit about our upcoming Guest on Friday, 11 December, 2020: Hugh Duncan: A British/Irish Catholic, who grew up in London, obtained a degree in astronomy and became a physics teacher for four decades! A French wife and four children, living in the South of France. A lifelong love of maths and music and a passion for both Mary Magdalene and the Shroud of Turin. A desire to do something useful.
A little about Hugh’s Current Project: The project was to write an album of songs about Mary Magdalene, record and sell them to raise money for Les Maisons Bethleem. This organization was created by Bishop Dominique Rei in 2004 in Toulon to help single mothers in difficulty. They are given a safe environment from domestic abuse, along with financial and emotional support. Rick Preston played the instruments and recorded the album, while Penny Mac McMorris did the vocals and their arrangements. This album is part of a wider project ‘Mercy Music’ where music will be sold to raise funds for charitable causes. The Web site is under construction with the hope of going live in spring 2021.

Songs in the Wilderness - Mel Warde
Songs in the Wilderness - Mel Warde
Diane speaks to Mel Ware, teacher at Saint Mary's Catholic School in Cambrideg.
Born into a family of 8 in Beckenham South London. Thanks to RC education and grant system, she was propelled through grammar school and surprised a few people by taking a sharp detour away from a levels and choosing to do Theology at Durham. She has taught in state schools in the East Ham and Petts Wood. She moved to Cambridge when she got married to Richard who was post doc-ing at the chemistry Dept. She spent 8 years teaching primary students part time at St Albans Cambridge, but otherwise have taught Religious Studies at St Marys. She believes the this is the best subject as you get to discuss everything and be a part of a kind, funny and feisty school 'family'!
She has three fantastic kids David, Ana and Danny. She very much believes in building faith through community and has been fortunate enough to be involved with development of the new Catholic community at Cambourne for the last 18 years.

While studying at university, he experienced a growing desire to share his faith with other people and became part of the Diocese of East Anglia’s Ignite Lite group which acted as a stepping stone to joining the full-time Ignite Team after graduation. The Ignite Team aims to share the Gospel with children and young people through the running of events, retreats and other activities in parishes and schools across East Anglia as well as through online media. Ciaran has served on the team for over three years, a role he sums up as “getting to share the best message on earth and somehow getting away with doing it as a full-time job”. He currently presents Ignite’s monthly First Fridays show on YouTube which features interviews and music from Christian guests.
