StadiumScene.TV's Main Event takes that deeper dive into the sports world and looks at the good, the bad, the funny, and the controversial topics that are what we love about sports. Join co-hosts D.J. Fluck, Kate Thompson, and Ralph Schudel as we hear their stories.
Stadium Scene’s Main EventDec 23, 2020
2024 NYE State of the Site with D.J. and Ralph
It's been well over a year since the last episode of Stadium Scene's Main Event. In this special edition we talk about what's been up, officially welcome our long-time friend Ralph Schudel to the team, and go over the direction of Stadium Scene in 2024 and beyond. Initially, we talked about 2023 and how the law known as "Section 230" and the formal end of the COVID-19 pandemic shifted our strategy. Had the US Supreme Court overturned Section 230, it likely would have resulted in us having to shut down. We go into why. The big changes for 2024 include: - No longer taking on new blog partners (our current blog partners will be supported as long as they continue to run their blogs) - Rebranding of our podcast section to Stadium Scene Radio which includes a plan to introduce live radio in late 2024 - Continued growth of the Stadium Scene TV channel with sports talk shows, Wednesday Night Dash, and a new IndyCar-themed iRacing league that will debut in February as long as the iRacing/IndyCar licensing issues are resolved by then. In part two of the episode, Ralph and D.J. play True/False with sports stories that could happen in 2024. Does Messi "slow down", do the Las Vegas Aces repeat as WNBA champions, and much more! Thank you again for your ongoing support of Stadium Scene and we look forward to serving you with new content in 2024!

Ten Minutes With... Joshua & Trevor From The Two Pointers Podcast
Yes indeed, we still record this show! Kate had a scheduling conflict, but D.J. runs the show (long as usual when he is by himself) and is joined by Joshua Gupton and Trevor Everette of The Two Pointers Podcast! The Two Pointers Podcast is the latest member of the Stadium Scene Network and they have easily a top five epic story about how the two of them met dating back to elementary school. It's very clear their love for all things college and pro basketball led to the creation and the success of this show, which is about to reach the 100-episode milestone.
We talk about how they were a "Pandemic Podcast", although they started much later than the usual podcasts, some early luck with the pilot episode that is the exception to the rule, and how they kept things going after most of the podcasts created at the start of the pandemic shut down and were never heard from again.
We close out the show talking about a really good piece of advice that they wish they knew when they were starting their show.

Our friend Gianna Belcastro from Women's Sports Matter Podcast joins D.J. for a special Sunday edition of the show. Gianna is graduating from Community College in May and has decided to move on to complete their education at a four-year school.
We're super excited to have Gianna break the news here. Before we get to the decision, we talk about the podcast, the new season coming up in May, and the positive experiences of Community College. The college decision starts around the 14:00 mark.

Ten Minutes With... Gianna Belcastro of Women's Sports Matter Podcast
D.J. and Kate are back with the second "Ten Minutes With..." episode of 2022. Yes, we know the episode is 24 minutes long. Just like the Big Ten Conference, we cannot count either.
Today we are joined by Gianna Belcastro, host of "Women's Sports Matter Podcast". Gianna is another "pandemic created podcast" that has continued on even after most of the pandemic created podcasts have ended. They feature some of the top women and women's sports leagues in the world along with interview coaches, players, and other important people in the sports.
In addition, we discuss the challenges of being a woman/non-binary person in sports and the importance of discussing and bringing to light scandals such as the NWSL player abuse scandal and how they went for so long without the general public being aware. Gianna also discusses being invited to podcast row of the United Soccer Coaches Convention and performing a live audience broadcast at a convention just outside of Chicago. A very packed 24 minutes with some incredible deep discussion.

Ten Minutes With.... Sean and Drew of Winning Losers Podcast
After a long hiatus, Kate and D.J. are back with the first Ten Minutes With... of 2022! Today they are joined by Sean and Drew of "Winning Losers Podcast". We get right into discussing how they met through a mutual friend and what the inspiration was for starting a podcast. We side track and talk successful college coaches who have flopped in the NFL, stand up comedy, and the most awkward time Sean bombed on stage at a stand up gig. Stick around to hear Sean and Drew's advice for how to be better at podcasting. It's something you won't want to miss!

Play x Play - Discussing "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck
In our next episode of "Play x Play," Kate and D.J. discuss "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck. Pretty much all of us have seen Joe Buck call either an NFL or MLB game for FOX at some point in the last 30 years and he is often one of the more criticized announcers of our generation. That being said, we discuss the book and overall thought it was very open, honest, and entertaining to the point that when it was released in 2016, several people had a change of heart about him.
In the episode, we go over some of our favorite chapters of the book, comment on his footnotes, his relationship with his famous father, Jack Buck, how a cheap plastic batting helmet may have saved his life, and talk about his unusual family situation growing up. For September, we will be reading "It's Game Time Folks - The Quest for 30" by our good friend Mark Darden. Be sure to check out both books on Amazon by clicking the links below.
Your purchase will pay us a small commission that helps keep Stadium Scene TV running and allows us to continue to grow and expand our operation.

Ten Minutes With... Chelsea Renee - Chat With Chelsea Renee
Today Kate and D.J. are joined by blogger, Chelsea Renee of "Chat With Chelsea Renee. Chelsea is based in the southeastern US and writes about all things Atlanta sports (Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta United, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Dream), along with Alabama sports, and women's sports.
We get into why she became a blogger, a discussion about rush week at the University of Alabama (which D.J. had no idea what they were talking about), and the legacy of Nick Saban and how much longer will he remain in Tuscaloosa.
Finally, we get into her advice for blogging and being organized with content.

Sports Stores - Super Bowl XLVII Power Outage
Today we look at the story behind what caused the infamous power outage at Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome in New Orleans, LA,, featuring the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers back on February 3, 2013. We even feature the clip where friend of the show and former Ravens safety, Bernard Pollard talks about being on the field and his reaction to the lights shutting off during the game. Since most people watching this are not technical people or Electrical Engineers, the explanations in this story are kept very basic. If you're interested in the full technical report, check it out here.
Play x Play - Discussing Jim Gray's "Talking to GOATs"
We're trying something new this week over at the show. Once a month, Kate and D.J. will be discussing a book on the topic of sports or journalism. This was NOT a paid review or promotion by the author or publisher of the book. A list is compiled by Kate and D.J. and the book each month is selected at random.
For our first episode, "Talking to GOATs" by Jim Gray is discussed. He is a reporter who just seemed to be at the right place at the right time for several major sports events over the last 30+ years. We talk Tyson vs Holyfield II (The ear bite fight), Lebron James' "The Decision", Jim's infamous interview with Pete Rose, discovering a very young Tiger Woods, his friendships and relationships he's built over his career and a wonderful Masters story about and tribute to his late father.
Mr. Gray - You have an open invitation to come on the show any time to talk! We really enjoyed the read!
It was definitely worth the read, so be sure to go check out "Talking to GOATs" and next month our featured book is "Lucky Bastard" by Joe Buck. Go order it and read along with us!

The Best of What Got Cut From Episode 100
So we said last week when we released episode 100 that it was difficult to edit because there was just so much good material and we wanted to keep the show around the one-hour mark. We couldn't let all this good material go to waste, so episode 101 is the best of what got cut from episode 100! Note that some of these segments appeared in episode 100, but we have the full unedited segment. The first segment is D.J. going on about Jeppson's Malört, first with Kate and then second with guests Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit. Learn about this infamous Chicago drink and why some people call it the "World's Worst Liquor".
In our next segment, we return to the interview with Ralph Schudel and play a clip from before we actually started the segment. It turns out to be a lot of bad impressions (Tom Brokaw, Dick Vitale and his Hooters Commercial (https://youtu.be/RSdyD-1xdk0), Gheorghe Muresan and his Snickers cologne commercial (https://youtu.be/CuU9DjeLESY), and former Cavalier/Laker Timofey Mozgov with the backward jersey (https://youtu.be/mWS9OaIXH4E).
Next, we have a quick clip of Kate (15:06) talking about how she signed up for Red Bull Flugtag when she was 13 and the interesting response she got from the company...
Finally, we have a nice discussion with Adam Corsair and Kevin Pettit about giving up on podcasts, the surprisingly low number of episodes it takes to be in the "top 1%" of most episodes released, taking criticism online for takes, handling negative reviews....and then Canadian Geese?

Stadium Scene's Main Event 100th Episode Spectacular
It's hard to believe when we started our show as a podcast in February of 2017 that we would ever reach 100 episodes. In fact, as of 2020, we only had 35. Add 65 more shows between March of 2020 and today and here we are with milestone episode 100! We decided the only appropriate way to celebrate 100 episodes is to talk about our previous 99 episodes, take a shot of Malört and visit with our first partners that helped us build this site into something special.
First, we sit down with our old friend Ralph Schudel (ralphschudel.com) and talk about how we met back after the #SaveTheCrew movement started. It's really incredible how in just four years the Columbus Crew went from being moved to Austin to an expansion franchise was added to Austin, new ownership comes in, and Lower.com Field just recently opened in downtown Columbus, Ohio.
In our next segment, we talk about our earliest shows, shifting our show concept over to being more interview-based, and our first guests who may not be household names, but have amazing stories to share. We actually had our first famous guests with Michelle McMahon from Big Ten Network and Super Bowl Champion Bernard Pollard stopping by and visiting the show.
The next throw to segment is with our friend Dave Knittel. Dave runs the popular "The Soccer Tavern" channel on YouTube discussing the history and teams of soccer. Dave also co-hosted the "Bros Talking Soccer" podcast with his brothers and famously hosted a daily episode after each day of action in the 2018 Men's and 2019 Women's World Cups.
Next up, we talk about how 2020 and the pandemic changed the trajectory of this show, where we talked with legendary Cubs radio broadcaster Pat Hughes, Andrew Dymburt of ABC News Now, and how watching a rerun of ABC's Wipeout at 11pm on a Saturday night inspired D.J. to take a chance and reach out to John Anderson at ESPN and resulted in an incredibly fun interview.
In our final throw to segment, we interview our two active longest partners Kevin Pettit (Loud Americans Discussing Soccer Podcast) and Adam Corsair (South of the 6ix, Jaybird Watching Podcast) about D.J. randomly reaching out to them when the site first started about this crazy idea. Both guests were fairly new at their shows and took a chance to partner with us. If it wasn't for them, this concept would have failed after six months. We can't say thank you enough to the two of them for helping get us on our feet.
Finally, we close out the show talking about our new Book Club segment and perhaps we've accidentally created a new segment. The discussion with Kevin and Adam about dealing with criticism, bad reviews, and nasty emails which make you want to quit were too good to cut, so we're going to be releasing all of that in next week's episode! Thank you again to everyone who has made StadiumScene.TV a success so far. We cannot thank you enough. Here's to the next 100 episodes not taking four years!

An Interview With... Steve Lavin - Part 2
If you missed Part One with Fox Sports Men's College Basketball Analyst, CBS Sports (during March Madness), and former Men's basketball head coach of UCLA and St John's Steve Lavin, scroll up on your podcast app and check it out!
In part two of the episode, we discuss how the recruiting scandal involving Coach Harrick resulted in Steve being promoted to Interim Head Coach, the tough start, and the support from Coach John Wooden ultimately resulting in the Interim tag being removed later in his first season.
Next, we move on and talk about how he transitioned to the broadcast booth and the inspiration of broadcasters and even Larry King that inspired him and develop the skills that have helped him be successful on TV today.
We then move on to a discussion about being diagnosed with prostate cancer while working for St John's University and the preparation beforehand with recruiting and giving his assistant coaches a chance to be successful during his absence. He also notes how his father was an important support figure that helped him through the most difficult stage of his life.
We finish up the episode on a lighter note talking golf tournaments, and for some reason, Kate asks another animal-type question to which Steve gave the most well thought out answer we've ever seen to one of Kate's off-the-wall questions.
Be sure to follow Steve on social media and check him out on Fox Sports during the college basketball season!

An Interview With... Steve Lavin - Part 1
We're extremely excited to have Fox Sports Men's College Basketball Analyst, CBS Sports (during March Madness), and former Men's basketball head coach of UCLA and St John's Steve Lavin join us today in the first of a two-part episode. We kick off the episode talking about playing basketball in high school and how before the era of YouTube, cell phone cameras, and a million sports networks how you would get exposure with college scouts.
Next, we talk about his transition into the coaching world and how he wrote letters to legendary coaches like Bob Knight, Gene Keady, and Jerry Tarkanian for advice on how to break into the ranks of coaching. Steve eventually was hired as an assistant at D.J.'s alma mater, Purdue University under the legendary coach Gene Keady. While at Purdue, Steve talks about coaching a young Matt Painter, who is currently having a great coaching career at Purdue, and meeting the legendary Coach John Wooden (also an alumna of Purdue University).
Ultimately his relationship with Coach Wooden resulted in him taking an Assistant Coach position at UCLA under former coach Jim Herrick. We finish out part one talking about the 1995 National Championship season and Tyus Edney's famous buzzer-beater against Mizzou in 1995 and a little-known story about Steve's celebration after the buzzer.
Check back again next week for Part 2 as we talk about how a recruiting scandal led to him becoming the head coach at UCLA, along with Coach Wooden's support, moving to television, and being diagnosed with prostate cancer while coaching at St John's University.
Be sure to follow Steve on social media and check him out on Fox Sports during the college basketball season!

Ten Minutes With... Collin & Austin - In A League of Their Own Podcast
Kate is at the vet getting rabies shots...I assume for her dog and not for her, which is a bummer because Kate missed out on a discussion with a Wisconsin-based podcast, "In a League of Their Own Podcast", featuring Collin and Austin.
Collin and Austin talk about how they met and how the show is about to be a family event. In addition, we get into the local hockey scene in Wisconsin and how they have connections to players who are currently in the NHL.
Stick around until the end for their piece of advice for a rookie podcaster and don't forget to subscribe to In A League of Their Own Podcast wherever you download your favorite podcasts.

An Interview With... Erik Richardson - Asst. Coach, Olivet College Swimming - Part 2
If you missed part 1 of the episode and the prank pulled on Kate, check it out!
We pick up the competitive swimming discussion with Erik Richardson, Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. In this week's episode, we talk about Tokyo 2020 still being Tokyo 2020 in 2021, why epic moments in Olympic swimming like Michael Phelps eight gold medals in the 2008 Bejing games.
Erik also worked at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and has seen many of these swimmers up close and personal during training and heard some of the legendary coaches like Bob Bowman coach his swimmers while being paid on the job.
We also get into a discussion about how it's funny that lifeguards are on duty for Olympic swimmers practicing and competing, but water safety is a very serious issue with thousands of people drowning or nearly drowning every year. Living in the south where almost everyone has a pool it's very easy for kids to sneak away and accidentally fall in or have a medical emergency in the pool, so make sure you and your kids take appropriate swimming lessons and have tarps and gates in place so drowning accidents do not occur.
We close out the show trading stories about the antics of high school and college which helped Kate understand more of why D.J. is the way he is.

An Interview With... Erik Richardson - Asst. Coach, Olivet College Swimming - Part 1
With the Tokyo Summer Olympics coming up, we thought it would be appropriate to bring on someone to talk about competitive swimming. There is always an uptick in interest in competitive swimming after the Olympics.
Our guest today is Erik Richardson, Assistant Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming at Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan. Erik was a swimmer for the University of Evansville and has coached at club, high school, and now at the college level.
About 8 minutes into the episode, Kate finds out that D.J. and Erik pulled a prank on her and that they've been friends since 4th grade. Erik and D.J. grew up in the same neighborhood in central Indiana. After some technical difficulties with Kate's Zoom connection, we talk about Erik briefly participating in the Winter Olympic sport of Skeleton and what that is exactly.
Finally, we close out part 1 talking about various events, practicing, and the differences between coaching club kids, high school, college, and the challenges of recruiting swimmers at a DIII college.
Check back for Part Two next week where we talk about Olympic Swimming, Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Katie Ledecky, and how the popularity of participating in competitive swimming always seems to increase in an Olympic year.

SSTV Sports Stories - The Browns Move To Baltimore, feat. Ralph Schudel
This episode is the unofficial sequel of our popular "Colts Move to Indy" episode from 2017. Ralph introduces us to the key players of the Cleveland Browns move such as owner Art Modell and minority owner, Al Learner (spoiler alert: he returns again at the end), some former Browns coach named Bill Belichick (yes, that one), and how the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium along with the Cleveland Indians leaving for Jacobs Field (now Progressive Field) helped accelerate the move out of Cleveland. In the end, as we all know, the Browns returned to Cleveland as an expansion franchise in 1999 and Ralph closes out the episode talking about how much the Browns mean/meant to the people of northeast Ohio.
Bonus question... why does legendary movie Director Richard Donner (Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon series) have a bust of Abraham Lincoln in his office? Stay tuned to the very end to find out why!

Ten Minutes With... Ashleigh Binder - Sports As Told By A Girl
So apparently now Zoom tells you in an AM radio quality audio that your meeting is recorded. Definitely caught us off guard at the start today and it was too good to edit out, so that's the opening today.
We're super excited to sit down with Ashleigh Binder of Sports As Told By a Girl. Ashleigh partnered with us in our early days of the site and has published over 300 articles to our site since joining us in 2018! She starts off the episode by telling us the origin story of how the blog was originally part of a "build a website" class in college that just kept on going.
Ashleigh also enjoys meeting and working with others who provide different perspectives in sports and how she's had tens of women join and write for the site, including some who have spun off and started their own blogs as a result! We also have a discussion about her experiences with trolling for being a woman who discusses sports and provides her advice for how to deal with it. Plus, how do WNBA posts do from a traffic standpoint?
Finally, stick around to hear her advice for a rookie blogger!

Ten Minutes With... Emily Williams - Lady-Thletes: The Show
We shouldn't record episodes on Friday afternoon because...well watch and see.
We're super excited to have Emily Williams back on the show two months after her first appearance promoting her book, Lady-Thletes (available at Amazon and maybe your local public library?!). We've been chatting with Emily since her visit and she has decided that the next step after the book was to start her very own podcast! On Saturday, May 15th she launched the very first episode of Lady-Thletes: The Show!
What's also exciting is that we're helping her produce it! This is our first venture down the path of producing someone else's material and we couldn't be more excited to work with Emily on this project! Emily talks about the process of building up to the first episode, the necessary preparation and the learning curve of planning episodes, finding guests, and creating seasons to avoid burning out during the project. Emily will be interviewing people involved with women's sports, coaching, and sharing her thoughts about coaching in the episodes, so be sure to subscribe and check out season 1!
As mentioned above, be sure to subscribe to Lady-Thletes: The Show and follow Emily on social media! -

An Interview With... Phil Schoen - BeIN Sports
Kate is back with us today and we kick off our cold open talking about our interview with Phil Schoen from BeIN Sports (skip to 4:16 unless you want to hear Ray Hudson's greatest call ever in D.J.'s opinion). Phil has been a staple of the soccer announcing community for three decades and covered everything from low-level soccer to professional level, and even the World Cup for ESPN, Fox, GolTV, and now BeIN Sports.
We talk to Phil about his beginnings in Miami and his love for the game watching his local Ft Lauderdale Strikers play in the NASL and learning about a player named Ray Hudson, who like most of us know went on to be his long time broadcast partner calling games in Spain (La Liga), France (Ligue 1). Phil talks about the growth of soccer and how the creation of the MLS helped him reach the national television stage and how while broadcasting with the MLS he met up with Ray Hudson and tried to get him to join the booth.
We move on and talk about what are the next steps that need to be taken in the USA to take the game to the next level (make MLS more of a global force, USMNT competing deep into World Cups). D.J. also shares a story of an amusing conversation young DC United Assistant in the mid-90s at a US Open Cup game who has later become quite the head coach himself.
Phil also talks about the "soccer vs football" debate and has a unique perspective on it and closes up the show talking about how in the last few years has gotten started building up his own voice-over company, VoiceGoals, and the challenges associated with going into business yourself.
Check out more about Phil:

We welcome you back from our hiatus with a guest who has also come out of a long hiatus! Our old friend Dave Knittel has recently announced that his popular YouTube channel, "The Soccer Tavern" is making a return!
Dave talks about his inspiration for creating videos about the history and culture behind "The Beautiful Game" and how his strategy of "Evergreen content" resulted in him growing by over 1500 subscribers despite not publishing a new video for over one year. His content features material from England (Premier League), Germany (Bundesliga), National Teams (World Cup, European Cup), and some classic smaller clubs in the United States. He also talks about dealing with the critique and the comments that used to bother him and the challenges of appealing to club supporter groups who are very passionate about their clubs.

Hiatus Until May Announcement...
Hey, we wanted to post a quick video to let everyone know where we've been and that the Main Event show will be on hiatus until early May.
Steve, our Graphics Designer (and the designer of our logo), and Kate's long-time partner's father passed away last Sunday after a long battle with cancer. We felt that it was only appropriate to shut things down for a couple of weeks while they take care of their families during this extremely difficult time.

Ten Minutes With... Max Costanzo - Lawnchair Sports
Today we are joined by Max Costanzo of LawnChair Sports podcast. Before we begin, D.J. breaks the shocking news that Michael Strahan posted to social media that he went to a cosmetic dentist and filled his trademark "gap" between his front two teeth. He's been out of the league for over a decade now, why now?
Max kicks off the episode talking about his time at Florida Gulf Coast University and how he met his partners, first Matthew "Coach" Landers, and then his two other partners Michael Ortega and Carlos Arias.
Next, he talks about how the theme of their show was put together, followed by Kate turning the discussion onto what kind of lawn chair do you prefer? Well, what kind do you prefer?
Max also talks about taking your shot and going after guests you think maybe way out of your league. He talks about reaching out to Jamey Rootes, the now-former Team President of the Houston Texans, and how he booked him as a guest.
Finally, we talk about getting your name out there and the challenges of getting your content on multiple platforms. If you're looking to expand the distribution of your podcast, there are some great tips here!

Ten Minutes With... Emily Corbett - She Writes Sports
We're back with a new episode this week featuring Emily Corbett of "She Writes Sports", a sports blog from the female perspective. Emily talks about how she originally built the blog as a college assignment and turned it into a full site with a team.
Moving on, we talk about the challenges of making predictions in sports and how most people get it wrong, and the additional "critiques" of being a woman and posting about sports. Expanding on that discussion, Emily is very open about the "trolling" she receives and shares her advice for how she deals with it.
Finally, before we wrap D.J. shares his "Do Not Try This At Home" story about his first experience building a website pre-YouTube that was inspired by a former hit MTV show.

An Interview With... Super Bowl Champion Bernard Pollard (Re-Release)
So we had some schedule conflicts and won't be releasing a new episode for the first time in now a year! It's really hard to believe how far we've come! We thought it would be fun to re-release an episode of one of our early podcast episodes featuring Bernard Pollard with some intro commentary from D.J. talking about how far we've come. Check back and try to enjoy one of our earliest episodes of the show!
Kate and D.J. are joined by nine-year NFL vet, Super Bowl Champion, and D.J.'s former neighbor at Purdue, Bernard Pollard. After realizing that Bernard lived in the dorm next door at Purdue, we discuss the Super Bowl, Super Bowl Media Day shenanigans, the future of the NFL, why the Patriots have been so successful over the last two decades, and who he thinks is the best QB of all time. In the second half of the show, we talk about Bernard's favorite teammates and coaches, being starstruck playing alongside Ray Lewis, how to prepare to play against Brady and Belichick.
Give Bernard a follow on social media:
An Interview With... Author, Emily Williams
Kate and D.J. sit down with author, Emily Williams as they discuss her new book, Lady-Thletes (Available at Amazon and on Kindle/Kindle UNLIMITED). The book is targeted at pre-teen and teenage girls in sports and the issues they run into as athletes and translates them to life lessons. This book is also a good read for males looking to better understand their female peers and the experiences they are going through during these critical development years.
Emily was inspired to write the book because of the issues she faced as a teenage athlete and not having a place to turn for help or advice. Teenage girls are SIX times more likely to drop out of sports than their male peers. We move on and talk about the process of writing a book, motivating yourself, and handling the critique of your editor before you finally get to publishing.
We also talk about mainstream women's sports, (NWSL, WNBA, NWHL, World Cup) and how streaming services such as YouTube and Twitch have increased viewership and interest over the last couple of years. As you can tell, this interview was a combination of serious discussion and some hilarious off-topic discussion as well that you won't want to miss.

An Interview With... Chris Myers - Fox Sports
Sometimes we wonder how we book some of these shows. Today is one of those days. After a bit of a cold open discussing Kate's laptop oops moment and D.J.'s interview philosophy (or you could skip to 5:14), we sit down with one of the greatest interviewers of our generation, Chris Myers of Fox Sports. You've seen him covering NASCAR, NFL play-by-play, MLB on Fox, The Masters, The Olympics, Boxing, the Cubs on Marquee Sports Network. You name it, he's done it.
We start from the beginning on how Chris worked his way onto the radio as a teenager and asked Muhhamad Ali and Don Shula questions. We talk about how education and working in local tv played an important role in preparing him for the national stage first at ESPN and on to Fox Sports.
Moving on, we talk about preparation and the mindset of covering life-changing events beyond sports (notably the World Series Earthquake in 1989 and the Olympic Park Bombing of 1996) and the controversy behind being the first interview of O.J. Simpson after his murder trial and wrongful death suit.
We take a lighter turn and talk about his appearances in movies as a sportscaster, including one day receiving a random phone call from a casting director and legendary Director/Producer, Oliver Stone (yes, about Any Given Sunday). We move on and talk about covering NASCAR and D.J. had to fanboy and ask about working with the legendary Jeff Gordon and the dynamic working together.
If you can't tell, we had a lot of fun recording this episode and we're grateful that Chris was able to take time out of his busy schedule. If you watch Fox Sports or NASCAR on Fox, you'll see him at some point. Don't forget to give him a follow on social media:

Ten Minutes With... Elijah Needham - StickInRink Podcast
Kate returns again as we are joined by Elijah Needham, the "primary" host of StickInRink Podcast on The Hockey Podcast Network. StickInRink discusses the Vancouver Canucks and other "west coast type sports. We start off the discussion today with how Elijah met his co-hosts and how they got involved with The Hockey Podcast Network. We move on and get into the legacy of Roberto Luongo and how Canucks fans look back at his often criticized legacy with the club. You'll be surprised to hear his answer...
Elijah turns the tables on us and has a philosophical discussion about the roles of fans and is it the job of the fan to criticize the club? If so, where is the line? Stick around for the end when he talks about the Mother's Day episode where they brought the mom of his co-host on and started asking her embarrassing questions about her son and how she played it off like a champ.

An Interview With... Even Kirkham, CEO of Colorcast App
Today D.J. sits down with Evan Kirkham, CEO of Colorcast to discuss what is the Colorcast App and why sports fans who are tired of bad sports commentary and want a new way to hang out and network with friends should be downloading it right now. We also talk the inspiration behind the app, how it came to be, and booking their first celebrity appearance on the application and future expansion for sports over the next several months (March Madness, The Olympics, NBA & NHL Playoffs, and more).
We also get into more serious topics about content moderation and taking appropriate steps upfront to discourage and keep hate speech off of the platform. We're also excited to say we will be working together with Evan and his team to help cross-promote events on Colorcast and StadiumScene.TV so keep a watch out for that!

Ten Minutes With... Ryan Stacey of Hockey Minds Podcast

Ryan works in the hockey industry and has a strong passion for learning more inside the operations. During the pandemic, it gave him a chance to reach out to talk to numerous people in the industry from coaches to scouts and front office people for their takes on how they do their jobs. Ten Minutes With... Jaybird Watching Podcast
Old friends. New friends! We have a little bit of both in today's episode. Kate and D.J. are joined by the hosts of the Jaybird Watching Podcast. The show features long-time friend of the site, Adam Corsair (former host of the South of the 6ix Podcast) and his cohosts Craig Borden and Brendan Panikkar.
The podcast goes off topic right away as the Toronto Blue Jays themed podcast talks about the infamous 2015 NLDS game versus the Texas Rangers and the greatest bat flip of all time. Getting back on topic, we talk about how they met, the original purpose of the podcast, the unique style of the podcast, and beards.

Ten Minutes With... Shanon and Megan of Slapshot Sweethearts Podcast
Kate makes her return today as we sit down with Shannon and Megan from the Slapshot Sweethearts Podcast, part of Belly Up Sports. We get into our usual questions of how they meet before Kate deviates to talk about the physical appearance of players, the badge of honor of missing teeth, and does Sidney Crosby dye his hair?
We discuss Dany Heatley and his reckless driving accident (NOTE: We mistakenly say it was drunk driving. He admitted to consuming alcohol, but was not legally drunk. We apologize for the error).
The conversation further de-rails as Animal Crossing is brought up and adjusting to 9am start times living on the west coast and have Vegas cracked the code for expansion franchises to succeed immediately?

D.J. is running solo again as he hosts Nick and Gabe from the Cardboard Boxseats Podcast. They shock everyone at the beginning with the story of how they met involving a walk to a cadaver lab while in school and how the podcast was originally a way of keeping in touch after graduation and moving to different cities.
They also talk about learning about the behind the scenes in basketball with stories from training staff, coaches, and broadcasters including a funny story involving the former Los Angeles Lakers risking being fined by Phil Jackson to take care of Kobe Bryant before a game.

Ten Minutes With... Brian "Snowman" Snow
No idea what happened to Kate today, but D.J. sits down for a very entertaining discussion with Brian "Snowman" Snow, host of "Snowman in the Morning" on Facebook Live from 8am-12pm EST Monday-Thursday and as a podcast after the show.
Brian talks about the unusual way his show started and how having a supportive wife has been huge in developing and keeping the show going. In our trademarked going off topic discussion, we also discuss the Jordan Vs Lebron greatness debate. It wasn't much of a debate here, because Snowman and D.J. are on the same side of that argument.

Ten Minutes With... Mark Darden aka "Buckeye Muscle"
Our old friend Mark Darden comes back for his third visit to the show. We've previously talked about Mark's book, "It's Game Time Folks! - The Quest For 30" which documents his travels to all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in one season (available at buckeyemuscle.com or Amazon.com).
We sit down with Mark to talk about how his book is doing, why he started documenting his travels and shares his advice for traveling and traveling alone. D.J. always has to bring up the incident where a man tried to fight Mark at a Burger King in Oakland.
We also shout out to our friend and former show guest, Ed de la Fuente (Itinerant Fan), and how he used to sketch stadium layouts while he was in middle school.
The conversation looked like it was going to go only 10 minutes, but D.J. goes off-topic to talk about how he found the flyer from when he toured the grand opening of Lucas Oil Stadium. The conversation takes a turn to discuss the oldest stadiums in the US and around the world.

2020 Year In Review Part 2
Welcome back for part 2 of our 2020 Year in Review series! We kick this episode off immediately by talking about D.J.'s hair, D.J.'s lack of haircuts for ten months, and finally when D.J.'s wife couldn't take anymore and butchered his hair right off.

- Casey Welch - Purdue football kicker, turned CEO of his own company
- Andrew Dymburt - ABC News Washington Bureau
- John Anderson - ESPN SportsCenter/ABC's Wipeout
We close out the episode talking about our rapid growth in 2020 from 62 partners to 131 in just 11 months and looking forward to 2021!

2020 Year In Review Part 1
D.J. and Kate are mailing it in for the rest of the year as we sit down and discuss 2020 in part one of this two-part series. We discuss how the pandemic sent us home and what we were doing when life changed for us, disc golf, and if "frisbee" is considered an "offensive" word to Disc Golf players. We shout out to our first responders and our "Essential Workers" at grocery stores and restaurants.
We move on to talking about bringing the show back in March, trying nutritional products, and why Kate wanted me to try cricket protein, and that Jeppson's Malort is still horrible.
Next, we move on to discussing the origins of our popular series, "Ten Minutes With..." where we introduced every member of StadiumScene.TV following the same questions and never actually finish the show in ten minutes.
We close out part 1 of the series by awarding our longest episode winner for 2020. It takes a bad turn when D.J. pulls a Steve Harvey moment and announces the wrong winner. The real winner was "Sporty with Cori and Richie!"
Check back next week for part 2 of our series and check out the video over on our YouTube page.
Ten Minutes With... TV on Basketball
It's our last episode of Ten Minutes With... for 2020. Not for good! We're always out to break new records and this week we broke a record by going the longest into a show without actually introducing the guest. The conversation starts off talking about "pandemic hair".
Today Kate and D.J. sit down with "TV", host of "TV on Basketball" found on your favorite podcast app or via his YouTube channel. We get into the details of why he started a podcast, who his favorite NBA team is, and Kate's random, but not so random "What do you think about bubbles?" question without any context.
Next, we move on to a follow-up discussion about the "Malice at the Palace" and D.J. talks about how he got Reggie Miller to admit on Twitter that he seriously considered coming out of retirement to play with "The Big Three" in Boston. Before wrapping up the show, Kate breaks out the Space Jam discussion and we discuss how amazing a team of Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley, Muggsy Bogues, and Charles Barkley would have been in their primes.

Ten Minutes With... Mark Bland of "Sports Talk With Mark & DP"
Kate decided to show up for work this week and brought with her the "Quiet Please" golf sign that she will be using from now on to tell D.J. he's talking too much!
Today the duo sit down with Mark Bland, Co-Host of "Sports Talk with Mark and DP" on The Good News Sports Radio. Mark talks about why he got into broadcasting and his involvement in how he got started with The Good News Radio.
Mark also shares the story while he was living in Detroit, he met Rob Parker (from Fox Sports/FS1) and had the courage to approach him and ask him for career advice. That discussion that day started a great mentor/friendship that Mark is very proud of.

Ten Minutes With... Cori Crenshaw & Richie Flores of "Sporty With Cori and Richie"
This one is a doozy today. We have a new record holder for the longest TMW episode and it goes so far off-topic, Jay Leno and Pat Morita's straight to video buddy cop film gets a mention. This is all because Kate wasn't here to watch the clock!
D.J. is joined by Cori Crenshaw and Richie Flores of Sporty with Cori and Richie to talk many things, but specifically about their Arizona Coyotes podcast on The Hockey Podcast Network. We talk about everything from supporting a club that has gone through a bankruptcy, numerous ownership changes, and stadium drama. Even after all of that, they still feel the future is bright for the club.
The conversation expands on how it's tough to be an Arizona sports fan with the Suns former GM having a goat take a literal crap in his office, the Cardinals being more or less terrible outside of a few years, and the Dbacks threatening to move. When we go off the rails, we talk about how to keep busy during the off season and talking about "random stuff" to keep busy. Movies, 18 foot long pythons in Florida, the Fast and the Furious series, the pain of being a Vikings fan, and how bad are NFL kickers?
Oh, a couple of profanities slip in this episode, so listener discretion is advised.

Ten Minutes With... Hutton Jackson of The Sports Profession
Kate and D.J. are joined today by Hutton Jackson, from The Sports Profession. Hutton was introduced to us by our mutual friend Mark Lawson, The Game Day Tourist (Check out The Game Day Tourist wherever you download your favorite podcasts). We de-rail the show right away talking about Hutton's current state of residence, New Jersey. Everything from stereotypes to pumping gas and D.J. shares an experience with trying to pump his own gas in Oregon before he realized that wasn't allowed.
Once we get back on track, we discuss Hutton's experience with working on MLB Network and the NHL Network, and how his interest in sharing the stories of others who have traveled down the same path could be a great podcast. The thing that stands out to him is that even people that have "made it" still write their own scripts, film their own material, and other difficult tasks that you still have to do.

Kate and D.J. are joined by Brandon Pate, host of Brandon's Sports Talk. Brandon may honestly be the hardest-working personality on YouTube today. He pumps out on average ten interviews a week (including one with D.J. a few weeks ago!). He talks about his process for finding guests, making sure he doesn't put a guest in a spot where they could be in violation of NCAA rules and the process he goes through dealing with university athletic departments to secure interviews.

Kate is wearing the same shirt she wore in last week's episode, but you wouldn't know that unless you checked out the video on our YouTube channel! Ok, it's because we filmed this episode ten minutes after last week's episode... Kate and D.J. are joined by Ryane Dunne of One and Dunne Radio. Ryan lives in Georgia and is originally from Michigan. He kicks off the show by explaining why he shows up to the episode in an Indianapolis Colts hat.
Ryan's love for sports media turned into his show and a podcast. He loves to chat with guests and bring on sports writers across the country. He's recently talked to Bob Ryan, the legendary writer from the Boston Globe and ESPN! Ryan finishes off by giving his advice to anyone that may be struggling with listener count. Check it out!

Last year they broke their $500 goal with around $700 of donations and this year they are going for $1000!

Ten Minutes With... Ed de la Fuente the "Itinerant Fan"
Today on our unofficial Halloween episode, D.J. and Kate "The Sloth" are joined by Ed de la Fuente, the "Itinerant Fan". Ed started his site about ten years ago as a way to document his travels to stadiums around the world and share his experiences. Ed talks about attending the NLCS game in San Diego despite not being allowed into the stadium through a unique venue option.
In addition, we discuss finding your audience and adjusting your work to be more helpful and more interesting to readers and not just you as the writer. Finally, we discuss how Pinterest is a powerful source of traffic for bloggers and it is severely underutilized. The stereotype that Pinterest is just for women sharing recipes is absolutely wrong on many levels and we go into why.

Ten Minutes With... Jackie Gutierrez of WomenKickBalls.com
Today we sit down with our friend and partner, Jackie Gutierrez (D.J. botched another name...whoops) from the independent sports journalist website, Women Kick Balls. Jackie talks about what got her interested in women's soccer in general, how far the game has advanced, and why she decided to cover it.
Jackie is also a recent college graduate and gets into what it was like to finish her undergraduate studies during the pandemic and the unusual circumstances with graduation ceremonies (or lack thereof).
Finally, Jackie shares her advice and we talk about the importance of a good email list. Be one of the first 500 to sign up for Jackie's email list and get a free Women Kick Balls logo sticker!

Ten Minutes With... Tom Greene
Today Kate and D.J. are joined by Tom Greene of the Tom Greene Podcast. We were introduced to Tom after he abruptly quit his job to bet on himself and follow his dream career in sports/sports broadcasting. We knew immediately this was a guy we needed to work with and help promote however we could.
He's currently working on air for a local radio station in Michigan and hosting his podcast to build his portfolio as he chases his dream career. Tom teaches us more about the Michigan "hand map" and talks about his love for sports and how his interest dates back to middle school. In addition, he once tried to convince a football player from his high school to go to Michigan instead of Michigan State. He also talks about his amazing ability to find and network with tv personalities and other celebrities in crowds.
Oh and Kate again tried to ask the guest what his "spirit dinosaur" was...

Ten Minutes With... The GameChat Podcast
Today's episode is truly a family affair as guests and real-life cousins and Boise State University students, Jack Morgan and Eli Loudenback join D.J. to talk about their show, The GameChat Podcast.
Before we get started, we talk about the rise of Boise State football over the last 25 years and how the football program put their school on the map, and why D.J. owns a Boise State football jersey (shoutout to Ian Johnson). Before Chris Petersen there was Dan Hawkins, and Dirk Koetter who built the foundation of the program.
We get into how both cousins ended up in Boise, why they started a podcast together, and how their other co-hosts got involved. We talk about the challenges of podcasting during the pandemic when not in the same room with no live sports to talk about, and sharing their advice for how they've become better podcasters.

Ten Minutes With... The Daily Dribble
Kate and D.J. are recording an episode late on a Saturday night because our guest and new partner come to us from Tasmania, Australia! Nic Zammit and Row Hancock are two of the three hosts of "The Daily Dribble".
We talk to them about how they met and why they started a podcast together. The bigger question, how did three guys from Australia become fans of the NBA? How do they watch games in Australia? What time do the games air in Australia?
We also talk Australian Football (aka "footy") and how it's started to take on a cult following in the United States and D.J. shares the story about how he solicited clubs on Twitter for his fandom and what club ultimately was the first to respond. They talk about Kobe, Lebron, the legacy of Michael Jordan and more!

Ten Minutes With... The Hardcourt Hunnies Podcast
Today Kate and D.J. are joined with Jade, Shea, and TJ from the Hardcourt Hunnies podcast, and a record-breaking episode it is! After losing a host and working as just Jade and TJ working together, Shea joined a few months ago and just clicked! This show takes the stereotypical "gender assignments" and flips them with the male role taking on the moderator and the female role doing the debate/discussion.
The show goes off on a tangent discussing favorite teams when TJ suggests Devin Booker will be coming to Minneapolis and D.J. throws shade at that prediction. Discussion about Ernie Johnson, Shaq vs Chuck. D.J. talks about his experience visiting OKC, the group's love for Steven Adams, the importance of prep, taking notes, and following the notes (we're talking to you, Kate!), and the importance of preparing for "oops" moments if you have audio issues. Shea surprises everyone with the fact she used to serve Jonah Hill when she worked at a coffee shop in New York.
Finally, we go through NBA Champions predictions. Note - This episode was recorded a few weeks so oops on the predictions!
